Gary Valenciano Shares His Passion for Biking in Men's Health Philippines August 2009 Issue

Posted by Posted by JED on Wednesday, August 5, 2009 , under , , | comments (0)

If you find yourself stuck in traffic one day and think that you just saw Gary Valenciano whiz by on a bicycle, your eyes aren't playing tricks on you-Mr. Pure Energy really does ride his bike around the metro.

His love affair with biking started when he was around 10 or 11 years old, as he tells Men's Health Philippines this August, "If it's not my wife beside me, it could be my bike Fifi. I don't think there'll ever come a time that I'll stop [riding]... I still see myself riding 'til I'm 65. I just love it."

Men's Health captures Gary as he rides the rough terrain in Sta. Elena, Laguna. After pedaling through the muddy trails, he smiles and says, "Ang sarap, I haven't ridden on the trail in four or five months. I'm on knee therapy kasi I got injured while performing onstage and napabayaan ko for some time."

In between his thrice-a-week gym sessions, he rides his bike and commutes to his tapings and recordings and back home, where he takes the Marikina riverside route.

For his fellow city bicycle riders, Gary has this tip: "Stick to the right side of the road... All it takes is one hit from the side mirror or wherever, and you end up on the ground on the fast lane. On the right, you can jump up a sidewalk."

He tells Men's Health, "I tried riding on the left, it's scary. You're going fast and you see this huge truck going vroom 'Okay I think I'm going on the right side now.'"

Gary shares more riding tips in the August issue of Men's Health, available in newsstands, bookstores, and supermarkets nationwide. For more of Men's Health online, visit www.menshealth.com.ph.

Willie Revillame Orders ABS-CBN to Remove Live Feed of Cory's Funeral Motorcade on Wowowee

Posted by Posted by JED on , under , , | comments (4)

Willie Revillame is getting a lot of criticism about the way he reacted when the live feed of Cory Aquino's motorcade was shown via split-screen on his show Wowowee last Monday afternoon.

According to a forwarded text message, "In Willie Revillame's show yesterday, dey wr showin a clip of Cory's motorcade sa inset. He suddenly freaks out on air & says "Ano ba yan!!! Ayusin nyo yan!(") It was disrespectful. Jus d other day hs boss Gabby Lopez profusely thankd Cory 4givin dem bak ABS-CBN. now Willie shuns her! Wat a disgrace! Pls pass so others wud kno."

But according to Willie, he meant no harm in his decision to remove the live feed of Cory's motorcade on his afternoon show. He just felt uncomfortable having a fun show while having the live coverage of the transfer of Tita Cory's body from La Salle Greenhills in San Juan to Manila Cathedral.

He said exactly during the show, "Kung ganyan, pakita na lang natin 'yan. Kasi nagsasaya kami dito, tapos... Masakit sa akin 'yan, e. Nagsasalita ako dito... 'yan, please. Sana maintindihan n'yo. Nagsasaya kami dito, papakita n'yo sa amin yun ang... di ba? Hindi tama, e. Okey? Hindi ba?

"Pangit! Hindi ho maganda sa atin. Nagsasalita, ipinapakita yung kabaong ni Tita Cory, hindi ba? Papano kami makapagsasaya, nahihirapan kami? I'm sorry ho, ha. Pero ako, totoo ako, e. 'Wag n'yo akong pagagalitan, kasi totoo ang gusto kong malaman...

"Pagkatapos ng show, ipakita n'yo ang gusto n'yong palabas. Kasi itong Wowowee, gusto ko... Hindi ba, at alam din ni Tita Cory 'yan dahil napasaya rin siya ng show na ito na laging masaya dito, ok?"

Willie also said his apology for ABS-CBN President Charo Santos-Concio, "Ma'am Charo, sorry. E nahihirapan ako ng ganyan, e."

On Tuesday episode of Wowowee, Willie apologized to those who were hurt with the way he acted the previous day.

"Sa sitwasyon na ito, kung may nasaktan ako, I’m sorry. Sa pamilya Aquino, alam ng buong pamilya Aquino, wala akong masamang intensyon doon," he said.

It's Final! Paula Abdul Not Returning to American Idol

Simon Cowell renewed his contract until next year.

Randy Jackson has inked his stay until 2011.

Kara DioGuardi confirms return to the "American Idol" judging panel next season.

And Ryan Seacrest inked an outrageous $45 million, three-year contract to continue hosting American Idol.

While auditions for the ninth season of "American Idol" are currently underway. And with the scheduled return of the show on air in January 2010, what happened now to Paula Abdul?

Now we told, Paula Abdul, a judge who has been with the show since year one, will not be coming back.

Abdul and her manager were demanding more money, and Idol producers felt she was not worth what she was asking. The two were quite vocal about their frustrating negotiations with the big wigs.

Paula twitted:

With sadness in my heart, I’ve decided not to return to #IDOL. I’ll miss nurturing all the new talent, but most of all..Cont’d…

I’ll miss nurturing all the new talent, but most of all being a part of a show that I helped from day1become an international phenomenon.

What I want to say most, is how much I appreciate the undying support and enormous love that you have showered upon me

AGB Mega Manila TV Ratings (August 1-2): Cory Aquino's Death Brings The Buzz Back To Life

Posted by Posted by JED on Tuesday, August 4, 2009 , under | comments (0)

Kris Aquino's mourning on the demise of her mother, Former President Corazon Aquino, brought The Buzz on top of the ratings game last weekend. The show registered a high ratings of 18.4%, doubling the ratings gained by GMA-7's Showbiz Central at 9.5%.

Host Kris Aquino gave an emotional and revealing solo interview to co-host Boy Abunda about the circumstances of Mom Cory Aquino’s death. Preempting regular programming and doing away with co-host Ruffa Gutierrez, the hotness of the topic and the appropriateness of the interview format largely contributed to the impressive rating. It was done right at the La Salle Greenhills gym where grateful people were paying their last respect to President Cory (Watch the full interview HERE).

However, despite its rigid promotion, the first episode of the five-part series "Vilma: Woman For All Seasons" only got a measly 20.9%. Hope the same rating won't reflect in the box-office turn-out of Vilma's comeback film titled "In My Life".

I Have Fallen In Love (With the Same Woman Three Times) - A Poem Written By Ninoy For Wife Cory

"I Have Fallen In Love (With The Same Woman Three Times)", was a poem written by Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr. for his wife Corazon "Cory" Aquino at Fort Bonifacio on October 11, 1973 for their 19th wedding anniversary when the former was a political detainee.

It speaks of Ninoy's love and admiration for his wife and how he has continually fallen in love with her through their nineteen years (at the time) of marriage.

The same poem was set to music by Jose Mari Chan and recorded it in 1989. According to Mr. Chan, he was approached by a good friend Cecille Guidote Alvarez sometime in 1987 to put music to the poem. What he read was a beautiful and heartfelt tribute from a man to his wife that inspired him to compose its melody in a very short span of time.

I Have Fallen in Love with the Same Woman Three Times was included in Jose Mari Chan's diamond record awardee album "Constant Change" and has recently been recorded by Christian Bautista to be included in a tribute album currently being compiled by Kris Aquino for her mother.

Posted below are the lyrics and video to the song:

I have fallen in love
with the same woman three times;
In a day spanning 19 years
of tearful joys and joyful tears.

I loved her first when she was young,
enchanting and vibrant, eternally new.
She was brilliant, fragrant,
and cool as the morning dew.

I fell in love with her the second time;
when first she bore her child and mine
always by my side, the source of my strength,
helping to turn the tide.

But there were candles to burn
the world was my concern;
while our home was her domain.
and the people were mine
while the children were hers to maintain;

So it was in those 18 years and a day.
'till I was detained; forced in prison to stay.

Suddenly she's our sole support;
source of comfort,
our wellspring of Hope.
On her shoulders felt the burden of Life.

I fell in love again,
with the same woman the third time.
Looming from the battle,
her courage will never fade

Amidst the hardships she has remained,
undaunted and unafraid.
she is calm and composed,
she is God's lovely maid.

Cory Aquino Wake and Memorial Service Schedules

Posted by Posted by JED on Saturday, August 1, 2009 , under , , , , , | comments (0)

The Aquinos, through their spokesperson Deedee Siytangco, announces their decision of having a private funeral for the late President Cory Aquino instead of a state funeral (under law, all Presidents were entitled to a state funeral but still subject to the family's approval).

"For all intentions and purposes, she had been a private citizen after stepping down, and siguro, to a degree we would like to spend as much time as possible as a family with her." explained Senator Noynoy Aquino of their decision.

Aquino, however, said that there will still be honor guards at the wake, as per tradition in wakes for former government officials.

The Aquinos also announces President Cory's wake and memorial services schedule as listed below:
  • : President Cory's body will lie in state at the La Salle Greenhills (LSGH) gymnasium.
  • : The wake will be open to the public (Gate 5 entrance for public and Gate 2 for media) from 5 p.m. on Saturday and will continue until Monday. The daily viewing schedule will be until 4 a.m., and will then resume on 7 a.m.
  • : A mass at the LSGH will be held at 8 p.m. on Saturday, August 1.
  • : Daily Catholic masses daily at 12nn and 8 p.m. at LSGH and Manila Cathedral.
  • : "Dedication Garden for Tita Cory" at the Sacred Ground of EDSA Shrine (where supporters can put flowers, prayers, candles and notes to Cory).
  • : President Cory's remain will be transferred from LSGH to Manila Cathedral on August 3 at 11am.
  • : Chronological service will be held at the Manila Cathedral on August 4.
  • : Necrological and vigil service is on August 4 from 4 a.m. until 6 a.m. at the Manila Cathedral.
  • : On Wednesday, President Cory will be buried at the Manila Memorial Park after a 9 a.m. mass at the cathedral. She will be buried beside her late husband, Senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr.
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo also declared a 10-day period of national mourning for the lost of Philippine much admired former President Cory Aquino.

Senator Noynoy Aquino Tells About Cory's Remaining Days in the Hospital

Former President Corazon Cojuangco Aquino, 76, has passed away of cardio-respiratory arrest at exactly 3:18 a.m. Saturday at the Makati Medical Center.

At about 5 a.m. outside the hospital, Senator Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III read a statement announcing the death of his mother.

The statement read:

"Our mother peacefully passed away at 3:18 a.m., August 1, 2009, of cardio-respiratory arrest.

"She would have wanted to thank each and every one of you for all the prayers and your continued love and support. It was her wish for all of us to pray for one another and for our country.

"Hinihiling po ng aming pamilya ang kaunting panahon para makasama namin ang aming mahal na ina."

At a press conference held this morning at the Ramon Cojuangco Building in Makati, Senator Noynoy speaks about the remaining days of her mother, late President Corazon Aquino, at the Makati Medical Center.

He told the press how unselfish her mother would be to still think of others while suffering from pain, "Yung touching dun sa akin yung sa ICU first time kong nakatokang magbantay. Imbes na matanong ko kung kumusta ka, ang tinanong sa akin kung kumain na ako at yung mga kasamahan ko. Other times naman nagbabasa ako ng dyaryo, tinanong nya kung ano laman dyan. Di ba pag ikaw ang maysakit eh natural yung 'ang sama naman ng pakiramdam ko', pero sya laging yung iba ang nasa isip."

Watch the video below:

Popular TV host Boy Abunda, a close friend of the Aquino family, told reporters on Saturday that the Aquinos were praying the Sorrowful Mystery of the Rosary when Cory gave her last deep breath.

Abunda said all five children of Mrs. Aquino, and her close friends and relatives were at her bedside when the former leader passed away.

After that last breath, Abunda said, Mrs. Aquino's children quietly cried.

"Malungkot. Tahimik na nag-iiyakan. Tahimik, except for Kris who was very quiet," he said, referring to the youngest daughter of Mrs. Aquino.

"Kris was very quiet. She was displaying such courage pero noong dinadala palabas mga labi ni Tita Cory... because you have to remember that Kris was in the hospital, Kris was by the side of her mother since July 20 hanggang sa mga oras na yun. Hanggang ngayon si Kris ay nasa tabi ng kanyang ina." Abunda said.

He also said that Fr. Catalino Arevalo, who is a very close friend of the former leader and had been officiating a mass for her at the hospital, officiated a mass right after Mrs. Aquino's death.

Former Philippine President Corazon Aquino Dies

Posted by Posted by JED on , under , | comments (0)

Former Philippine President Corazon Cojuangco Aquino passed away at exactly 3:18 a.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2009, at the Makati Medical Center in Manila after battling colon cancer for more than a year. She was 76.

Once a reluctant housewife, Aquino was known as an icon of Philippine democracy after the EDSA 'People Power' revolution removed the Marcos dictatorship and restored democracy in the Southeast Asian archipelago in 1986.

Aquino served as the nation's president until 1992 when she gave way to her successor, President Fidel Ramos.

But in March 2008, Cory Aquino has been diagnosed with colon cancer and has been going in and out of the hospital since then for chemotherapy. Last May, she underwent surgery to remove parts of her colon and was brought to the Makati Medical Center in June due to loss of appetite.

Last Monday, the Aquino family said Mrs. Aquino's condition had turned to "guarded" due to her fluctuating blood pressure.

Her son, Senator Benigno 'Noynoy' Aquino III, confirmed that the former leader's cancer had already spread to her liver.

"Her weakened condition does not allow chemotherapy. We have reached the point where you're not sure if the intervention will help or worsen the condition," he told reporters.

Last week, her supporters tied yellow ribbons along Times St. and Examiner St. in Quezon City near Mrs. Aquino's residence, and also outside the Makati Medical Center, symbolizing hope and prayers for her recovery and as a show of support for Philippine democracy.

May Your Soul Rest in Peace, President Cory.
