Cherry Pie singer and the lead vocalist of 80s glam rocker group "Warrant" Jani Lane was found dead inside his hotel room at Comfort Inn hotel in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles. He was 47.
No official statement on the cause of death of his death was released.
Lane who was sentenced to 120 days in jail in 2010 after being arrested twice for DUI (driving under influence) within two years, talked in the past how he hates the song Cherry Pie despite it hitting the Top 10 in America and putting their Cherry Pie album to number seven on the Billboard charts.
"The record was done. The record was called Uncle Tom's cabin. Donnie called up and said 'I don't hear the single'.. so that night I wrote Cherry Pie, sent it to him, he listened to it over the weekend and all of a sudden, the album's called Cherry Pie, the record's called Cherry Pie, the single's called Cherry Pie, Im doing cherry pie eating contests, the single's Cherry Pie and my legacy is Cherry Pie, everything about me is Cherry Pie. Im the Cherry Pie guy.
"I could shoot myself in the f****** head for writing that song." he said in past interview.

I love/loved you Jani. You will be greatly missed. I thought of you as a terrific writer & singer, not just for "Cherry Pie". I hope all the pain you were feeling in your life is gone now..RIP Jani. God bless your family & friends.
Never heard of him or the band or song.
At age 15 I saw Warrant and it changed my life.I have played music ever since, which has been a constant source of enjoyment.Jani was crazy, happy, and exciting to see as a frontman. It is so sad that people that have it all at times live with so much inner pain that it all to often ends this way. RIP Mr. Lane you will always bring me joy!
YOU WERE SUCH A WONDERFUL PERSON AND YOUR MUSIC WILL ALWAYS BE INSPRIRING AND LOVED YOUR LYRICS YOU WILL MISSED BUT YOUR MUSIC WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN....
Your dead now just like your Music. I saw you in concert and you sucked!
the band was awesome back in the 80's the song cherry pie was one of my favorites. you and your band will never be forgotten! you made this world rock...
had a hell of a time at jani sun set strip in orlando dude was a good man. meet him while doing work on the bank behind the bar. after that he remembered my name when i came to the club months later got shit faced with me an my friends. drove all of us home in his limo rip brother.
Omg will you people shut up. You ask as if this was Morrison or Hendrix who died. He was a singer for an 80's glam hair band. He's a loser. The song "Cherry Pie" only illustrates the plasticity of their approach to their "music" it sucked then and it sucks now. This is a headline? Really? Who cares about a has been from three decades back dying at nearly age 50. Although I would much prefer to see a headline that showcases Axel "faggot" Rose's death or that stupid dumb ass top-hat retard "Slash" talk about no talent ass clowns they make this loser Jani look like Beethoven.
This is sad and tragic but think how his life would have gone if he hadn't come up with 'Cherry Pie' and they stuck to "Uncle Tom's Cabin".
They keep being referred to as an 80s glam band. The song cherrie pie was releaed in 1990. The success they had was all in the 1990s.
Okay, I get that fact that he wasn't Hendrix or Morrison or Mozart. Like it or not 80's Hair Band Metal had it place in music history. Just because you didn't like it didn't make it bad...just not everyone's cup of tea. It wasn't my favorite, but it was what it was. Don't hate unless you had regular airplay rotation with something you did. At least they had their day in the spotlight, whether it was Warranted or not. Those ripping on him didn't even have 1 second of fame. So just let it go. Is it news worthy?? I don't know, but then again who or what is??
Dumbasses talking shit, Warrant had two Double Platinum albums and one Gold album within a 4 year period. Suck on that!
Why comment if you don't know who he is? Why comment if you think the music is a joke. Respect the dead no matter who they are! Jani, I'm sorry that you got labeled as the cherry pie guy. I know that's not what you wanted for yourself. I'll miss you, man.
I'm saddened about the news myself...I have all their albums and enjoyed listening to their music over the years. I also visited the Sunset Strip in Orlando in the 90s just to get the chance to meet Jani. He was very talented and left us with unforgettable rock music.
"Your dead now just like your Music. I saw you in concert and you sucked!"
dude, you will get yours someday, your a real low life idiot moron to say something like this, probably some 15 year old punk who actually thinks he knows something
go listen to whatever crap music you listen to and stop posting insulting comments
one of the worst of the "hair" bands. I won't even put metal on their music. Shame he died but terrible band.
I shot a few games of pool with him back in the late 80's at FM station in Noho, where I guess he was a regular. I knew who he was but I didn't make a fuss and he was pretty cool, even bought me (or got me comped) a couple drinks. I wasn't really into hair metal but he was cool. RIP
i loved listening to their music. i still listen to it. they were a good band.
