One Up, the boy band GMA Artist Center launched two years ago, is set to stage their first concert this August 24 at SM North EDSA Sky Dome.
The group is composed of 10 talented young men namely Nikki Co, Kevin Sagra, Jay Arcilla, Prince Clemente, Joemarie Nielsen, Arjan Jimenez, Ralf King, Dave Bornea, Yasser Marta and Brent Valdez.
"We sing and dance together. But this year, we want to put a twist on these. We want that, every year, we would be able to add something new. For this time, we want to showcase our individuality especially in the fields we excel in," says Valdez, discovered after failing to make the finals of the boy-band reality show, To The Top.
The band promises to showcase exciting numbers that will highlight the members' individual talents apart from performances as a group.
"I like rock songs, so for the concert I arranged some numbers that I think fits my personality and that I haven't shown before. As a group, we are more on pop, but for the concert we're going to show our own styles. For me, personally, it's rock like Bon Jovi," shared Yasser, a finalist of Eat…Bulaga's "Spogify" segment. After that stint, he then went on to make appearances in the late-night show Walang Tulugan of the late Master Showman, German Moreno.
He added, "The concert isn't like any show we do out of town. It will run for two hours. That's why we work out for endurance so that our energy from start to end will be the same."
Their recently released single, "Smile," will also be the boy band's key song to serenade the audience as they deliver their messages of love and gratitude to their fans.
"If you saw earlier, there were parts where we performed as a group. Then, we were six for the dance and singing. You can see that in our concert. That's the taste of what we will be doing. There will be numbers that will be three-by-threes for the dance and then duets and the full band. There's going to be beatbox, a capella, drummers and also keyboard," noted one member.
"We go to the gym to be fit and for our talent, we have to train our voices for the concert. You have to be focused all the time," says Thai-Filipino Joemarie Nielsen. He was a finalist of Starstruck who reached 13th place overall in the competition.
Joining them onstage are fellow Kapuso stars Migo Adecer, Karlo Duterte, Sofia Pablo, Will Ashley and Andrea Torres. The concert is produced by Gion Prestige Productions, under the direction of Marvin Caldito with choreography by Mark Benzon Pelota.
Tickets, priced at P1,600, are now available for purchase at SMTickets.com.
