Kapamilya Shows and Concerts Coming Soon at the ABS-CBN Vertis Tent

There is a new place to go to watch and experience Kapamilya events and shows.

ABS-CBN announced today (July 24) that it is launching the “ABS-CBN Vertis Tent,” a tent venue located within the newly opened Ayala Malls Ventris in Quezon City.

Before the end of the year, the 1,140 sq.m. events venue will be opened for special events, live shows, product launches, exhibits, and concerts. ABS-CBN head of business development Paolo Pineda revealed that ABS-CBN already has a lineup of shows featuring local and international artists in the tent, which has a seating capacity of 1,200 people.

ABS-CBN chief operating officer of broadcast Cory Vidanes and Pineda, together with AyalaLand Malls, Inc. president Rowena Tomeldan and AyalaLand, Inc. chief finance officer Ruby Chiong signed the agreement for the project today (July 24) at the ABS-CBN compound in Quezon City. Also present in the signing were ABS-CBN head of integrated events and customer engagement Bobby Barreiro, ABS-CBN legal counsel Carissa Enerio, ABS-CBN head of integrated marketing Nandy Villar, AyalaLand Malls, Inc. Synergies general manager for entertainment Gabby Katigbak, AyalaLand Malls, Inc. senior associate for business development Sheena Chua, and AyalaLand Malls, Inc. head of marketing Maricris Bernardino.

Pineda said the network welcomes this new venture with Ayala Malls, which has been a partner of ABS-CBN in bringing its content and its stars closer to the public.

Ayala Malls has been one of our strongest partners for our events, programs, and movies. Our events in selected Ayala Malls have always generated thousands of attendees. Last year, we also signed a lease agreement with Trinoma, an Ayala Mall, for our first ever experience store. This tent is another first for ABS-CBN, thus strengthening our partnership even more,” said Pineda.

The Ayala Malls Group also expressed its excitement with this new project with ABS-CBN.

We are pleased to be able to provide the Filipino consumers a place to meet their favorite stars and celebrities. The ABS-CBN Vertis Tent will also be open to private functions for individuals who need a big venue north of Metro Manila. We are excited to be a part of wonderful memories created by this new venue,” said Tomeldan.

Pineda added ABS-CBN and Ayala Malls hope to deliver many meaningful experiences to Filipino families through the events that will be staged in the ABS-CBN Vertis Tent.

Robi Domingo and Gretchen Ho Take a "Sweet" Turn to UST on S+A "University Town"

Robi Domingo and Gretchen Ho visit Asia’s oldest existing university with a special guest tour guide in comedian John “Sweet” Lapus as they continue their campus tour in the show "University Town" (U-Town) this Sunday (July 30) on S+A and S+A HD at 1pm.

Sweet, a proud alumnus of the University of Santo Tomas (UST), also the largest Catholic university in the world in terms of population, will bring Robi and Gretchen to iconic buildings and places inside the school’s sprawling campus along España, where they will be “walking” with presidents, heroes, and saints, as proud Tomasinos would say.

The pair will meet the famed Teatro Tomasino organization, the university-wide theater guild which Sweet was a part of back in college. They will also visit the ice cream cart of Fidel Perez, a certified medical technologist who has seen generations of students since he started selling his sweet treats inside the school in 1989.

Robi and Gretchen will also be joined by UST Director of Public Affairs Giovanna Fontanilla as they marvel at the beautiful structures in the school, which has produced legendary names in the field of architecture including Leandro Locsin and Juan Nakpil.

“U-Town’s” latest episode also highlights the athletic program of the university, where each discipline is given ample attention for better performance in competitions, explaining why UST has the most overall championships in the UAAP. One of the school’s most decorated teams is the Growling Tigers’ judo squad that has amassed 24 UAAP titles.

This is the fourth school that "University Town" gets to explore this season, which is on its second year of featuring the eight schools competing in the country’s premier collegiate league, the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP).

"Kita Kita" Earns P100-Million on its First 8 Days, To Be Released in Cinemas Worldwide

Powered by positive reviews and strong word-of-mouth, the comparatively unconventional romance flick "Kita Kita" has now earned P90 million after a week in theaters, or around 40% more than producers expected before release.

"Parang panaginip," Piolo Pascual, one of the owners of the independently financed Spring Films, which co-produced "Kita Kita," said in an interview.

"When I heard the numbers, hindi ako makapaniwala," he added.

Piolo admitted that he personally expected the movie, which reportedly had a P10-million budget, to make only P50 to P60 million for the entirety of its box office run.

"It's not about the budget of the film. It's about the story, the quality - so ang sarap sa feeling na tinangkilik ng tao," he explained. "I'm overwhelmed."

"Kita Kita," topbilled by the odd-combination of Alessandra de Rossi and Empoy Marquez, focused on a Filipina who had lost her vision after her engagement with her Japanese boyfriend fell apart.

The movie was premiered in select cinemas last July 19.

Releasing it in late July was a risk. "Spider-Man: Homecoming" was still showing, and the exceptionally reviewed "Dunkirk" and the space adventure "Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets" were about to premiere.

Its director, Sigrid Andrea Bernardo, was well-aware of this and posted on social media that she would be satisfied if her film wasn't pulled out of cinemas after just one day. "Nakakagulat! Nakakaiyak!" she wrote.

"Kita Kita" is still showing on 120 cinemas nationwide, and will have international screenings to be announced on a later date.

It made an additional P10 million on Wednesday, taking its 8-day total to at least P100 million. - ABS-CBNNews.com

A World's First! "The Emoji Movie" Sets a Brand-New Guinness World Records Title to Celebrate World Emoji Day

In anticipation of World Emoji Day, and the upcoming worldwide release of The Emoji Movie, emoji fans around the world celebrated by setting the world’s first Guinness World Records™ title for the Largest gathering of people dressed as emoji faces simultaneously across multiple venues.

Watch the featurette about the Guinness World Record at http://youtu.be/bl91yEeshZI

Spanning three continents, the record saw emoji faces inspired by the film’s characters turn up in Dubai, Moscow, London, Dublin, and Sao Paulo, as hundreds of fans dressed as the winningly expressive characters. Additional countries showed enthusiastic support by echoing the effort, with their own emojis participating in similarly themed celebrations; it is estimated that more than 1,000 emojis not associated with the record were in the mix throughout Europe, Asia and South America.

The film, about an emoji that simply can’t stick to just one expression, is due for release in Philippine cinemas on August 23, 2017. It comes at a time when the familiar messaging characters that populate our smartphones are more in demand than ever: in fact, this marks the fourth annual celebration of World Emoji Day, which is getting bigger with each edition and will be formally observed on Monday, July 17.

The global record was simultaneously set by people dressed as the yellow emoji characters from the movie in Sao Paulo, Brazil (local time 11:00am); Dublin, Ireland (local time 3:00pm); Moscow, Russia (local time 5:00pm); Dubai, UAE (local time 6:00pm); and London, England (local time 3:00pm). An adjudicator for Guinness World Records confirmed the new title for the Largest Gathering of people dressed as emoji faces simultaneously across multiple venues.

Commenting on the announcement, Josh Greenstein, President of Worldwide Marketing and Distribution for Sony Pictures Entertainment, said, “Achieving a Guinness World Records title is a testament to the enormous worldwide appeal of emojis. It’s great to see so many people getting excited for the worldwide release of ‘The Emoji Movie.’”

Jack Brockbank, Guinness World Records Adjudicator, added, “We are incredibly impressed by the level of coordination and timing required to pull off this global record attempt – and it all happened simultaneously! It’s official - this is a fantastic achievement!

The Emoji Movie is the new animated adventure that unlocks the never-before-seen secret world inside your smartphone.

Hidden within the messaging app is Textopolis, a bustling city where all your favorite emojis live, hoping to be selected by the phone's user. In this world, each emoji has only one facial expression – except for Gene (T.J. Miller), an exuberant emoji who was born without a filter and is bursting with multiple expressions. Determined to become "normal" like the other emojis, Gene enlists the help of his handy best friend Hi-5 (James Corden) and the notorious code breaker emoji Jailbreak (Ilana Glazer). Together, they embark on an epic "app-venture" through the apps on the phone, each its own wild and fun world, to find the Code that will fix Gene. But when a greater danger threatens the phone, the fate of all emojis depends on these three unlikely friends who must save their world before it's deleted forever.

Directed by Tony Leondis. Written by Tony Leondis & Eric Siegel and Mike White. Produced by Michelle Raimo Kouyate.

The Emoji Movie is distributed by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International.

Cebu Pacific to Provide Free Cargo for Relief Good to Wounded Soldiers, Cops in Marawi

Cebu Pacific Air (PSE: CEB) will be providing airlift support to military and police personnel wounded in action (WIA) in Marawi City. On top of the free airlift on Cebu Pacific flights, the WIA government troops will also get baggage allowance of up to 40 kilograms.

In cooperation with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP), this initiative aims to augment air support by the Philippine Air Force by helping move wounded government troops from field hospitals in the area to larger medical facilities of the AFP and PNP. Through this, field medical stations can be declogged, giving way for wounded soldiers and police personnel who need immediate medical attention.

"It is with deep gratitude that we accept this kind gesture of support by Cebu Pacific led by its President and CEO, Mr Lance Gokongwei, in the airlift of our heroes Wounded in Action in Marawi. This will not just afford our troops immediate treatment in hospitals that offer better facilities to aid their speedy recovery, but a meaningful gesture to make your Soldiers, Airmen, Sailors, and Marines feel that their sacrifices are being recognized and appreciated," says Marine Colonel Edgard Arevalo, Chief of the AFP's Public Affairs Office.

"The officers and rank-and-file of the Philippine National Police and our families are grateful for this magnanimous expression of kindness and compassion by the management of Cebu Pacific to provide life-saving medical evacuation to policemen who are wounded in fighting local terrorists in Mindanao. This is not the first time that Cebu Pacific extended a helping hand to our troops. We cannot thank them enough for keeping the Filipino spirit of 'Bayanihan' alive in such crucial time of emergency," says Police Chief Superintendent Dionardo Carlos, Chief of the PNP Public Information Office.

WIA government troops who are fit enough for commercial flights can be accommodated on Cebu Pacific flights from Cagayan de Oro (Laguindingan Airport), and flown to any CEB domestic destination. Currently, Cebu Pacific has direct flights from Cagayan de Oro to Bacolod; Tagbilaran, Bohol; Cebu; Davao; Iloilo and Manila. By July 26, CEB will also fly direct between Cagayan de Oro and Zamboanga City.

On top of the airlifting of WIA government troops, CEB is also airlifting cargo of relief goods and other humanitarian assistance for affected residents. Donors may coordinate with the GMA Kapuso Foundation or the Philippine Business for Social Progress for packing and transport arrangements of their donated goods.

Cebu Pacific will continue to provide free cargo support for relief goods and other essential items for displaced residents of Marawi City  and adjacent areas from various organizations, most notably the Department of Social Welfare and Development. These include food and water; medicines; bandages; clothing and other necessities. The airline has provided equipment support to the Office of Civil Defense in the transport of humanitarian assistance.
