Richard Gutierrez Transfers to ABAS-CBN, Join "La Luna Sangre" and "Wife, Husband, Wife" with Angel Locsin

Newest Kapamilya Richard Gutierrez returns to television as he joins the cast of ABS-CBN’s highly-anticipated epic action romance series “La Luna Sangre.”

“I have always been curious how it is to work in ABS-CBN. I only hear great things about this network. Finally, now I’m here, I’m excited that I have been given the opportunity to work here,” Richard said in the contract signing held May 31 in Manila with ABS-CBN COO for Broadcast Cory Vidanes, Star Creatives COO Malou Santos, Finance head for Broadcast and News and Current Affairs Cat Lopez, and talent manager Annabelle Rama.

Richard will be part of the upcoming series “La Luna Sangre” topbilled by Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla and directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina. He will play the role of Sandrino, the supreme vampire and the long lost son of Magnus (Jake Roxas). What will be his connection to the lives of Mateo (John Lloyd Cruz), Lia (Angel Locsin) and Malia (Kathryn Bernardo)?

“La Luna Sangre” is the third installment of the hit fantasy franchise, after “Lobo” and “Imortal,” both produced by Star Creatives.

Aside from “La Luna Sangre,” Richard is also slated to do a movie entitled "Wife, Husband, Wife" with Angelica Panganiban and former loveteam Angel Locsin under Star Cinema.

Guessing Game is Over! Liza Soberano is Darna in Star Cinema's MMFF 2017 Movie Entry

It's out and official!

Star Cinema have announced that Liza Soberano is the unanimous pick to play the newest incarnation of Pinay superheroine Darna - in an upcoming film adaptation to be helmed by Erik Matti.

In an exclusive interview with ABS-CBN News' MJ Felipe on TV Patrol, the 19 year-old Kapamilya actress said: "Yes, it is confirmed. Tinatanggap ko na ang role na Darna."

She succeeds Marian Rivera, who was the last to portray the Mars Ravelo character onscreen. The Kapuso actress was 24 when she first donned famous fire red costume in 2009, and the choice of Liza seems to suggest that the newest version will now be a tad younger.

Angel Locsin, who played Darna in 2005, was first tapped by Matti to star in his film but a back injury forced the actress out of the project. Angel has since called her fans to support whoever will replace her. "I now entrust the reins to the next lucky lady who will have the time of her life portraying the role," she said.

Since Darna made her komiks debut in 1950, the well-loved character has been played by several actresses on TV and in films, including a young Vilma Santos in the 1970s.

In the original lore, Darna is a warrior from Planet Marte who manifests herself in a village girl from Earth named Narda.

In order to transform into the heroine and defend humans from evil forces, Narda swallows a tiny meteorite and shouts "Darna!" - a small scene which has since been embedded in local pop culture.

In his previous interview with DZMM, Matti agreed that Liza has the built to successfully do the role justice.

“She has the strength physically, 'yung itsura at katawan. And then tama 'yung edad and you can do a lot of things sa mukha niya. Puwede siya mag-iba-iba ng itsura and she could still look really good. At the same time, Pinay siya na maganda, pan-Asian. Mahirap 'yung mestiza eh,” he said.

The countdown to the opening of Warner Bros. Pictures' Wonder Woman cannot be any faster, but die-hard fans are in for a treat as the studio has announced midnight previews on June 1 at 12:01AM in selected cinemas in Metro Manila and regional cities.

Fans are advised to reserve and buy their tickets now to be among the first in the world to watch Wonder Woman.

Mandaluyong Regional Trial Court Lifts Garnishment Over ABS-CBN and SkyCable Assets

ABS CBN and Sky Cable received an ex-parte writ of attachment and notice of garnishment from the Mandaluyong Regional Trial Court on Thursday, 25 May 2017, in connection with the collection complaint of Solar Entertainment Corporation.

ABS-CBN and Sky Cable immediately filed a motion to lift the attachment and garnishment on the morning of May 29, which the court granted on the same day.

Thus, at this time, there is no effective attachment or garnishment over any asset of ABS-CBN or Sky Cable.

In 2014, ABS-CBN and Solar jointly entered into a license agreement with NBA Properties Inc. Since ABS-CBN was paying 60 percent of the license fees, it considered that the same already covered the carriage fees of Sky Cable. Unfortunately, Solar disagreed. Despite the good faith attempts of ABS-CBN and Sky Cable to resolve the dispute amicably, Solar cut off the NBA feed to Sky Cable and filed this complaint.

ABS-CBN is set to submit its answer with counterclaims to this complaint. The network giant is confident that they will prevail.

ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Launches "Gusto Kong Mag-Aral," Gives 100K School Bags to Students Nationwide

More than 100,000 students from Luzon to Mindanao will be given school bags and school supplies through the “Gusto Kong Mag-Aral” project of ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya – Operation Sagip, with the help of donors who want to help the country’s youth have a better learning experience this school year.

ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya-Operation Sagip director Jun Dungo said the project targets elementary school students in the entire country, particularly those from areas in poverty and frequented by calamities.

“ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya’s compassion and service for the Filipino people doesn’t end after a rescue or relief operation. This project is one way for us to ensure a bright future for our youth, especially those who really want to go to school. We are thankful for our donors for their unwavering commitment to help in making our countrymen’s lives better,” he added.

A total of 1,300 students have already been reported to receive bags and school supplies at the Hermosa Elementary School and Orani Elementary School in Bataan. The project will continue in Catanduanes, Pampanga, Albay, Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte, Cagayan de Oro, Bukidnon, Compostela Valley, Nueva Ecija, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, Kalinga, Bulacan, Quirino, Ilocos Norte, Benguet, Aurora, Zambales, Batangas, Mindoro, Laguna, Quezon, Pangasinan, Iloilo, Antique, Capiz, Aklan, Bohol, Cebu, Samar, Leyte, Lanao del Norte, and Zamboanga del Norte.

ABS-CBN has been in the service of Filipinos worldwide for over six decades. Nadnad, one of the beneficiaries in Bataan, shared that he gets inspiration to pursue his studies from his parents, a laundrywoman and janitor.

Another beneficiary, RJ, a Grade 1 student from Orani North Elementary School, is determined to become a doctor in the future. Her mother shared how extremely difficult it is to make ends meet, especially with her spouse undergoing dialysis for the past 5 months. The young girl already recycled old notebooks for use this coming school year, and was overjoyed to receive new school supplies.

“I promise to be good in my studies,” she said.

Schoolchildren like Nadnad and RJ inspire the people behind “Gusto Kong Mag-aral” as they serve as a reminder that there is hope even after tragedy and to never stop dreaming for a better future.

MYX Named its Newest VJs Turs Daza, Kim Cruz, Debbie Then, and JC Tevez

Turs Daza, Kim Cruz, Debbie Then, and JC Tevez officially join the MYX family after winning in the MYX VJ Search 2017 at the finals night held in 12 Monkeys Music Hall & Pub last Saturday, May 27.

The youngest in the competition, 19-year old student and blogger Kim said she was in shock when her name was called as she was not expecting to win.

“I’m so thankful. Most of them are 5 or 4 years older, and I was scared to be treated like a baby. Age should not be a problem. You guys, just go for what you want to do. I’m working at this age also, and I’m studying at the same time. Just go for your dreams.”

A sports enthusiast who plays basketball, rugby and soccer, Turs said people were shocked to find out that he was a MYX VJ Search finalist as they know him to be shy and reserved.

“Honestly, you can do anything you said you might do. You shouldn’t let other’s opinions limit you, because at the end of the day, whatever you do is your responsibility and whatever others do, that’s only their opinion of you.”

Radio DJ, events host, digital influencer and model Debbie divulged she first auditioned in the MYX VJ Search when she was only 16 years old back in 2011. Debbie also won the Zalora Style Award along with co-finalist Fons Avila.

“Persevere and keep trying. If you really believe that this is for you, keep trying until you get it. Don’t stop if you know in your heart it’s for you.”

Meanwhile, jock and foodie JC shared his adamant belief and even quoted his idol, Chris Pratt. JC also won the San Miguel Totoong Kaibigan Award.

Cristine Reyes returns to acting and portrays the challenging role of a mother whose very own nail salon customer kidnapped and sold her daughter to a complete stranger in “Ipaglaban Mo.”

Despite being a single mother, Karen strived hard to provide for her daughter Angel. She worked as a nail specialist in a salon where she met Myla (Arlene Muhlach), a woman who was very fond of Angel. Myla liked Angel so much that she would even give Karen extra money so that she could buy what the little girl wanted.

One day, Myla convinced Karen to allow her to take Angel to the mall. Karen easily agreed since she trusted Myla very much. Hours later, however, the two had not come back and Myla and her daughter were nowhere to be found.

Where did Myla bring Angel? Would Karen be able to see her daughter again?

Philippines to Host Miss Universe 2017

The Philippines has been offered the hosting rights to the next edition of the Miss Universe pageant this November, Department of Tourism (DOT) chair Wanda Teo revealed.

"Pinagaaralan pa namin iyan pero that's true, they are asking us to host it again this year," Teo told ABS-CBN News' Mario Dumaual.

The DOT chief shared that members of Miss Universe Organization were pleased with the job they did, especially since the pageant in Manila, they claimed, overshadowed the pre-events of the recent Super Bowl - one of the biggest sporting events in the US.

"Usually, number one iyan (Super Bowl) pero trending pa rin ang Miss Universe," she said, referring to the days after the pageant. "So they really want it badly here in the Philippines."

Should they accept, however, Teo said that her department will be pushing for more control over the event. "We want it na we would be the one controlling it," she said.

She also added that they, much like last time, will be looking for sponsors to shoulder the expenses.

The Philippines played host to the prestigious pageant last January. France's Iris Mittenaere won, succeeding Pia Wurtzbach.

The 2017 Miss Universe is scheduled for November. This year, the country will be fielding Filipino-British beauty queen Rachel Peters.

Arjo Atayde's Death Puts "FPJ: Ang Pronbinsyano" to Sky-Rocket TV Ratings

"Ang Probinsyano" continued to keep at bay rival show "Mulawin vs. Ravena" with episodes centering on the death of Joaquin (Arjo Atayde), the series' longtime baddie who killed off one of the major characters early on.

The cop drama drew a national television rating of 41.1%, 43.3%, 42.7% and 40.4% for its Monday to Thursday episodes, respectively. Both numbers were more than double that of GMA-7's newest fantasy series, according to Kantar Media.

The ratings were higher than the show's average for the whole of last year, which stood at 40 percent.

Many harbingers of doom have been speculating for quite some time that the prolonged storyline might prove to be a death knell for the show.

But there is very little evidence to suggest that, as a bumper number of viewers tuned in to witness the death of Joaquin, and with ABS-CBN renewing the serye until January 2018.

"Ang Probinsyano" is set to continue as Cardo tries to live a normal family life with now-wife Alyana while still pushing his war against corrupt police officials and big-time criminals.

Q&A with "My Love From The Star" Stars Jennylyn Mercado and Gil Cuerva, Premieres May 29 on GMA Telebabad

Being true to its promise of providing quality entertainment, GMA-7 brings its own adaptation of the well-loved South Korean series "My Love From The Star" starting Monday, May 29.

Starring Jennylyn Mercado and newcomer model/actor Gil Cuerva, "My Love from the Star" is a No.1 South Korean romantic/comedy/sci-fi series that showcases an extraordinary love story about two people coming from different worlds, and how love defies time and space. GC: At that time na nag-audition ako, may certain reservations ako, kasi walang assurance na makukuha ko ang role. But now, it's all been very worth it. Hopefully, this is something I do well.

Q: How did he prepare for the role knowing that he's new in the acting department?

GC: Na-culture shock ako nang konti. I guess, it's a different industry sa modeling. I have to make certain adjustments, certain sacrifices. Pero it's something I embrace and I'm ready for it.

I want to get good at acting para naman maganda ang reputation. Ayaw ko naman na yung reputation mo is sikat ka, guwapo ka, pero ang pangit mong umarte. I'll do my best to stay long because this is something that I want.

Q: Reports have it that his kissing scene with Jennylyn reached nine takes, who did it happen?
GC: Very particular kasi si Direk [Joyce Bernal]. Gusto niya ramdam na ramdam. Tapos may certain blocking po. Tapos, yung hinila ko si Jen, it was actually a lot harder to take.

Siyempre si Jennylyn yun, di ba? Talagang nahiya ako, kinabahan ako. Hindi lang basta-basta, ka-kissing scene ko si Jennylyn pa talaga. I guess, a lot of nervousness came out and it took a lot of tries para mawala yun.

Q: While she admits that she's funny in real life, it will be the first time that Jennylyn will portray the role where she needs to make fun of her character.
JM: Puro kasi mga heavy drama ang ginagawa ko, kaya akala ng marami, ma-emote akong tao. ‘Yung maraming hugot parati. Pero in real life, kengkoy ako. Kaya thankful ako na this time, hindi ako iyak nang iyak.

Kaya noong sabihin sa akin na ang Steffi character ay comical, nagustuhan ko agad. Para naman maiba, di ba? Comedy naman ako this time. Na medyo kaaasaran ako dahil sa kaartehan at pagka-diva ni Steffi.

Q: How is she making sure that she will fit correctly on the role of Steffi after her numerous heavy drama TV series in the past seven years?
JM: Si Direk Joyce Bernal pa ang direktor namin dito sa MLFTS. Tinuruan niya ako ng comic timing. Yung natural lang, pero ang bagsak matindi.

Q: How does it feel working with newcomer Gil Cuerva?
JM: Noong una tahimik lang siya talaga. Alam kong kinakabahan kasi malaking role agad ang binigay sa kanya. Pero later on, naging okay na siya at nakikipagkuwentuhan na akin. Unti-unti, nakikilala ko na siya. May serious at funny side din pala si Gil.

Q: Did she give him tips, pointers on how to attack his role and make him comfortable on the set?

Performance-wise, okey naman si Gil. For a newcomer, nakakasabay na siya agad. Pero siyempre, may mga times na nagkakamali siya sa pag-deliver ng lines. Pero natural lang iyon sa mga baguhan. Dumaan din kasi ako sa ganyan, di ba?

Ako naman, bilang leading lady niya, sinusuportahan ko si Gil lalo na sa mga bagay na bago sa kanya. Sinasabi ko nga sa kanya na dumaan din ako sa nararamdaman niya, kaya okay lang kung magkamali siya. Part of being an actor in the business ang magkamali ka, kaya next time matatama mo na siya.

South Korean superstar Kim Soo Hyun arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport earlier today, May 24.

The 29-year-old actor, who played Do Min Joon or Matteo Do in the hit Korean drama series "My Love From The Star", is scheduled to attend the official launch of Samsung's QLED TV in the Philippines.
