UN Women's Forum Features Coca-Cola Philippines 5by20 Partnership with DOLE

The United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW) recently concluded its 61st session at the UN Headquarters in New York City.

A local delegation to the UNCSW session was led by officials of the Philippine Commission on Women; the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE); the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD); the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA); and Coca-Cola Philippines.

During the two-week forum, a parallel event session entitled "Here4Her: Making Reintegration Work for Filipino Women Migrant Workers" featured the partnership of Coca-Cola Philippines and DOLE under the Women Entrepreneurs Reintegrated and Economically Active at Home (WOMEN REACH) program.

Through the panel discussion, Coca-Cola and DOLE were able to share the journey and accomplishments of the WOMEN REACH program during its first year of implementation.

Among the panelists were DOLE National Reintegration Commission for OFWs Executive Director Chona Mantilla; Coca-Cola Philippines Sustainability and 5by20 Lead Gilda Custodio-Maquilan; DOLE Assistant Secretary Gloria Jumamil-Mercado; and moderated by Cabinet Undersecretary Gloria Tango of the Office of the President of the Philippines.

"The WOMEN REACH program partnership was conceptualized to help facilitate women economic empowerment and the effective reintegration of returning women overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) by providing them access to livelihood programs, building their entrepreneurship know-how and connecting them to resources that will help them establish their own small enterprises," shared Gilda Custodio-Maquilan, Coca-Cola Philippines Sustainability and 5by20 Lead.

The WOMEN REACH program is a collaboration of the 5by20 Sari-sari Store Training and Access to Resources (STAR) Program initiatives of Coca-Cola Philippines and the Assist WELL (Welfare, Employment, Legal and Livelihood) centers of DOLE. Central to the program intervention is to help improve the plight of returning women OFWs and mitigation measures to help address the impact of the feminization of migration to women OFWs and their families.

The STAR Program is part of the 5by20 global initiative of The Coca-Cola Company to help economically empower five million women by 2020. Present in over 80 countries, the Philippines is a lead market in the said global initiative. DOLE’s Assist WELL center, on the other hand, is an integrated resources accessing mechanism established to address the challenges faced by returning women OFWs in the areas of welfare, employment, legal, and livelihood needs. The expertise and resources of these two programs posits a promising intervention that will help women OFW stakeholders under the WOMEN REACH Program.

The UNCSW panel discussion served as a platform for the sharing and exchanging of ideas and experiences both from the panel speakers as well as the audience in the constantly evolving world of work for women overseas workers

TJ Monterde Releases Third Album Called "Kahit Kunwari"; To Stage "Ikaw at Ako Concert" at the Music Museum

Five years since his emergence in the music industry, acoustic artist TJ Monterde releases his third album called "Kahit Kunwari" under PolyEast Records.

After the success of his signature hit single, "Ikaw at Ako" TJ has consistently proven himself to his large online fan base. This year, he is back with another widely- anticipated all-original album which he is set to launch and perform in his first ever and much-awaited "Ikaw at Ako Concert" at the Music Museum on June 17.

"Mahika" which means magic in Filipino, is the first single in the album. Describing the song, TJ mentions that it's inspired by his soul singer girlfriend, KZ Tandigan, "This is my KZ song for the album and wrote this specially for her. Kasi sometimes we forget to slow things down but when I'm with her, bumabagal lahat - because when you're in love, it's magic."

Apart from the first single, TJ also wrote "1,2,3", an upbeat yet heartbreaking track. While "Kahit Kunwari" which the album was named after, is an acoustic ballad TJ wrote inspired by a friend's real life story and his unwavering belief in love.

Unlike TJ's self-titled second album released in 2016, the new album consists of a lushly arranged English love song called "Memories". Meanwhile, award-winning composer Archimedes Daiorocas famously known as Archie D' wrote "Nitong Pusong Ito", especially for TJ after listening to his cover of Archie D's "Mahal na Mahal Kita" from his debut album in 2013.

On his solo concert, TJ mentions that he is thrilled to be performing side by side with a full band and working closely with musical director Jem Florendo. "What you hear on gigs, what you hear on the CDs or online, it's going to be different. What you're going to hear on the concert-everything is going to be different." he shares.

TJ revealed that he saw his 2013's "Ikaw at Ako" debut single fit for the title of his concert since this concert is meant for his fans -"Ikaw" referring to his fans and "Ako" referring to TJ himself.

The 27 year old musician has revealed that he chose all of the songs for the concert. While he will perform a few covers, he shares that 90% of the songs are his originals, "May Filipino, may 90s, may current hits, they're my personal favorites - songs I grew up listening to. It's going to be a peek at my playlist."

When asked about what he felt about having his concert so early in his career, TJ has this to say, "I feel so blessed. Not everybody's given the chance to be able ti express themselves through music. I never imagined na magkakaconcert ako this soon. Sobrang overwhelming."

Polyeast Records artist and young popstar Sassa Dagdag is revealed to have an appearance in this concert.

"Ikaw at Ako Concert" is presented by Polyeast Records and Yamaha Motor Philippines; in cooperation with UnisilverTime, AttiGoPh, Royqueen, Steeltech, and JCA. Special thanks to Dr. Montesa by Shimmian and Rice Top Asian Comfort Food.

Mukha Special Anniversary Episode "Nightshift" Airs on ABS-CBN's Sunday's Best

Award-winning documentary series “Mukha” celebrates its third anniversary with a special called “Nightshift,” a look into the lives of Filipinos who toil in the night to provide food, respond to emergencies, inform the people, protect the land, build structures, and keep the economy moving while the rest of the nation sleeps.

The whole country gets to watch their inspiring and moving stories and see the important roles they play in our society this Sunday (June 11) on ABS-CBN’s Sunday’s Best, after “Gandang Gabi Vice.”

Providing food for the people are fishermen like Emboy Samartino of Cavite, who’s out in the waters all night to catch fish, which are then delivered to awaiting buyers by port workers like Joseph Estrada. Keeping the population safe and healthy are the likes of Kenneth Lacuna, an emergency medical technician (EMT) team leader who responds to critical and emergency situations to save lives, and Dr. Kesiah Bugante of Fabella Hospital, who works round the clock to attend to at least 15 patients giving birth each day.

Capture the routines of informers like photojournalist Vincent Go, who will share the challenges of working the graveyard to provide a slice of truth each day, and of national broadsheet roll man Rolly Damasco, who meticulously checks the papers before they are printed and distributed to different parts of the country.

“Mukha” will also share the experiences of protectors like Manila Metropolitan Theatre security guard Danilo Rubio, who tries to keep accidents and disturbances at bay around the historical institution and coast guard Angel Biliran, whose mission as commander of BRP Pampanga is to maintain peace in Philippine waters amidst the aggravating territorial disputes between Philippines and other countries.

It will also delve into the lives of night shift builders like steel man Louie Cabtalan, who is crucial in fortifying the foundation of buildings but is struggling to provide a shelter for his family. LRT Line 2 driver Carlos Valdez, meanwhile, goes to work as early as 2 a.m. to conduct rigorous safety tests on the trains to make sure they are safe to ride by daybreak.

Business process outsourcing (BPO) team leader Ralph Rumbines will also give an inside look into the life of a call center worker, how they deal with targets, health concerns, and discrimination as they strive to respond to queries anytime of the day. Likewise, airport ramp personnel Waynajoy Festijo has the lives of people in mind as she ensures evening flights run smoothly, checking on the weight and balance of an aircraft, as well as the refueling and other technicalities of a plane.

The stories in “Nightshift” were first shown in six parts on ANC, the ABS-CBN News Channel. “Mukha” made history last year after winning a Silver Dolphin at the 7th Cannes Corporate Media and TV Awards in France. It also was a finalist at the 2017 New York Festivals Awards for International TV programs and Films for its entry “Serbisyo” in the Current Affairs category.

Catch Mukha’s “Nightshift” anniversary special narrated by Tony Velasquez on “Sunday's Best,” June 11, after “Gandang Gabi Vice” on ABS-CBN and ABS-CBN HD. It can also be viewed online via iwantv.com.ph and skyondemand.com.ph

Lav Diaz and Charo Santos-Concio's Internationally Acclaimed Film 'Ang Babaeng Humayo' Debuts on Cinema One

After continuing to receive glowing reviews from international critics, “Ang Babaeng Humayo” (“The Woman Who Left”), multi-awarded director Lav Diaz’s 2016 groundbreaking masterpiece and Charo Santos’ comeback film, makes its much-awaited debut on Cinema One’s “Blockbuster Sundays” this Sunday (June 11) at 8PM.

Produced by Cinema One Originals and Sine Olivia Pilipinas, “Ang Babaeng Humayo” is the first Filipino film to win the Golden Lion, the top prize at the prestigious Venice Film Festival, the oldest film fest in the world. It tells the story of Horacia (Charo), a woman seeking revenge after being imprisoned for decades for a crime she did not commit.

The film’s cast also includes John Lloyd Cruz, Michael de Mesa, Nonie Buencamino, Shamaine Buencamino, Jean Judith Javier, Kakai Bautista, Mae Paner and Lao Rodriguez.

After its debut in 2016, the film and its lead star have been praised by critics from all over the world and even gained nominations at this year’s Asian Film Awards.

Scout Tafoya of RogerEbert.com, the world’s preeminent destination for movie criticism, praised Diaz’s control in a movie tackling a variety of issues such as prison life, regional crime, transgender identity, corruption, family, religion, poverty, and murder.

“[When] A film this busy can find such focus in its closing moments says that whatever Diaz's methods of inspiration and creation, he knows exactly what he's doing,” wrote Tafoya.

Kenji Fujishima of New York-based PasteMagazine.com praised Lav’s work, indicating, “the characters here are so vividly drawn and performed, and the contemplative mood so remarkably sustained. Don’t be daunted by its length: at its best, Diaz’s film has the richness of a great, wide-ranging, deeply immersive novel.”

Film critic Anthony Oliver Scott also attested to this in his critique in The New York Times: “’The Woman Who Left’ is carefully composed and hauntingly beautiful to behold. It is long and slow-moving, but at nearly four hours it feels less like a test of your endurance than an appeal to your appetite for character, incident, and emotion.” He ended his review with “the film makes uncompromising demands on your attention and your empathy. But it is also illuminating and, in its downbeat, deliberate way, exhilarating.

Charo, ABS-CBN’s chief content officer, who returned to acting in the triumphant epic, was also praised for her powerful performance.

Joshua Brunsting of Criterion Cast enthused, “Santos is absolutely brilliant here, taking the film’s great narrative weight upon her shoulders and crafting a human and humane performance.” Moreover, The New York Times review also said that Horacia is “played with exquisite understatement” by Santos.

Charo was recently hailed as Best Actress in the recent Gawad Tanglaw and Gawad Pasado awards for her performance in “Ang Babaeng Humayo.” The Dublin Film Critics Circle Award, on the other hand, recognized Lav as Best Director in the 2017 Dublin International Film Festival for his masterpiece.

'Wonder Woman' Overpowers Competition, Soars at PH Box Office with P233-M in 4 Days

One of the best-reviewed and most-anticipated Super Hero movies of all time, director Patty Jenkins’s epic action adventure “Wonder Woman” soared to the top of the Philippine box office on its opening weekend, earning a record-shattering P233-M, and still climbing.

The Warner Bros. Pictures release, which stars Gal Gadot as Diana Prince / Wonder Woman and Chris Pine as her ally Steve Trevor, marks the global icon’s first-ever solo feature film and the first female-led big screen adventure of the modern superhero era. The announcement was made today by Francis Soliven, General Manager of Warner Bros. Philippines.

The massive weekend figures have given “Wonder Woman” the country's biggest female superhero movie opening of all time, and the biggest opening for a foreign movie directed by a woman (outgrossing “Fifty Shades of Grey” at P94.5-M).

Other notable records achieved were the second biggest opening weekend for the year (surpassing “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2” at P159-M); fourth biggest June opening weekend all-time (ahead of “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” at P210-M) and second biggest opening weekend ever for a Warner Bros. (overtaking “Batman v Superman: Dawn Justice at P162-M for a two-day weekend).

“Wonder Woman” arrived in PH cinemas on a wave of universally enthusiastic reviews and unprecedented want-to-see scores. Soliven said, “Patty Jenkins and her talented cast and crew have delivered the Wonder Woman adventure that new and longtime fans have been waiting for, and we’re glad to see the film connect in such a big way with moviegoers across the Philippines.”

Globally, “Wonder Woman” is the weekend’s greatest box office draw, taking in $223 million worldwide, and counting.

The impressive global total makes “Wonder Woman” the largest female-lead superhero movie opening of all time, the biggest opening in June for a superhero movie, and the biggest opening in June for a Warner Bros. film. With a Certified Fresh rating of 93% on Rotten Tomatoes, the film is also one of the best-reviewed superhero films ever, and its CinemaScore of A shows audiences agree.

In the US, the film has grossed $100.5 million and has the highest opening weekend box office of all time for a female director.

Back in the Philippines, the ten topgrossing cinemas are SM Megamall (P9.52-M), SM Mall of Asia (P9.39-M), SM North EDSA (P9.36-M), Trinoma (P7.43-M), Glorietta 4 (P5.49-M), SM Cebu (P4.65-M), Theatremall (P4.20-M), Power Plant (P4.12-M), Greenbelt III (P3.96-M) and Uptown Taguig (P3.75-M).

In the top twenty rankings are Gateway (P3.61-M), Shang Cineplex (P3.45-M), Eastwood (P3.42-M), Alabang Town Center (P3.36-M), Ayala Cebu (P3.30-M), SM Southmall (P3.29-M), Robinsons Magnolia (P3.21-M), SM Seaside Cebu (P3.16-M), SM Aura (P3.15-M) and Fisher Mall (P2.91-M).

Gal Gadot returns as the title character in the epic action adventure from director Patty Jenkins (“Monster,” AMC’s “The Killing”).

Joining Gadot in the international cast are Chris Pine, Robin Wright, Danny Huston, David Thewlis, Connie Nielsen, Elena Anaya, Ewen Bremner, Lucy Davis, Lisa Loven Kongsli, Eugene Brave Rock and Saïd Taghmaoui.

Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, raised on a sheltered island paradise and trained to be an unconquerable warrior. When an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers…and her true destiny.

Now playing across the Philippines, “Wonder Woman” is distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

Hoegaarden Brewery, through its exclusive distributor in the Philippines Booze Online, Inc., has extended the celebration of its World Beer Cup win to Philippine shores by hosting a festive roof deck party at the Manila House in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.

The festivity toasted Hoegaarden Original White Ale’s Gold award in the Belgian-Style Witbier Category of the 2016 World Beer Cup, which bested 77 other witbier brands.

Considered one of the most stringent global beer competitions to date, the World Beer Cup evaluates beers around the world and recognizes the most outstanding breweries and their beers every two years.

Recognized by connoisseurs as the original Belgian White Beer, Hoegaarden Witbier – biere blanche, is esteemed for its distinct taste and flavor palette which consists of Curacao orange peel and coriander that lend it a light and refreshing flavor and smooth taste.

In addition to its cool citrusy finish, Hoegaarden Witbier – biere blanche credits its Gold award to the Hoegaarden Brewery’s complex and exacting brewing process and century’s worth of expertise. Anne Ghanima, Brewmaster and Hoegaarden Brewery Manager explains, “Hoegaarden is different by nature. It goes through a complex brewing process that uses special barley malt, raw wheat and our very unique Hoegaarden yeast that result in a distinctive cloudy-white appearance. The key to the authentic Belgian wheat beer’s unique, refreshing flavor and spicy nose is ingredients including real Curacao orange peel and a delicate balance of coriander. Many years ago, Hoegaarden brewmasters creativity led the iconic beer we know today and we are proud to perpetuate the tradition.

Hoegaarden traces its roots to the village of Hoegaarden, Belgium where brewing beer has always been an integral part of life. The tradition began in the 15 th century, when Begarden monks in the area started brewing Belgian white (or wit) ales. Since the previous wheat beers they brewed were sour, the monks experimented by adding orange peel from the colony of Curacao and coriander until they deliciously crafted the Hoegaarden recipe used today. By the 19 th century, the village then boasted of 35 breweries.

'The Mummy' Boasts of Tom Cruise's Weightless Stunt in Zero G

All hell breaks loose when Egyptian princess Ahmanet’s sarcophagus is being flown from Iraq to London and ravens begin to crash thru the cockpit window, in Universal Pictures' The Mummy (in Philippine cinemas on June 7. 2017). As one might imagine, things go downhill from there…and the plane begins to dive.

Director Alex Kurtzman and lead actor Tom Cruise were vocal from the jump with special effects department head Dominic Tuohy that they wanted everything to happen for real; this Zero G stunt was no exception.

For The Mummy’s pivotal plane-crash sequence, the cockpit action was shot on a stage at Shepperton Studios, while the VFX ravens were added digitally during post production. However, as soon as the sequence called for shooting the interior of the body of the plane during the crash, all movement was done practically, safely on stage.

There is meticulous craftsmanship and attention to detail on our sets for this film,” raves Kurtzman. “Every set tells a story and reveals something about the character- these sets are a gift for any filmmaker. I constantly walk on these sets and my jaw just hits the floor. This cargo plane set build is a huge artistic and engineering feat.”

On stage S at Shepperton Studios, this huge 20-ton steel frame cargo plane set was constructed and mounted onto a hydraulic base…proving to be the most complex build for the production. This gimbal allowed for continuous rotation with the actors inside. Simultaneously, it provided a 15-degree tilt—front and back—to simulate take off and start of the crash.

This cargo plane set was built from the ground up by Tuohy and his team of 30. SFX began working on the plane build for 16 weeks, then began working with the stunts department. To accomplish this stunning feat of movie magic, there were skilled technicians drawing the rigs—as well as model makers, engineers, power technicians and senior technicians…many who have worked on Dominic’s team for more than 30 years.

Tuohy underscores the pride the crew took in their work: “We didn’t want this stunt to look contrived. We wanted it to use physics and real time. As far as I am aware, this is the first time this has been done for a film, and we embraced that.

Never been done before for a film, the production then introduced a real plane at Novespace headquarters, housed in Bordeaux, France, into the mix to complete and film this Zero G sequence.

At Novespace a real Airbus A310 aircraft was flown, with 40 cast and crew members inside to experience the Zero G effect. The cast crew did 16 parabolic flights within a two-hour period, twice a day over two days. For the stunt, the pilots enacted a total of 64 parabolas (repeated weightlessness sessions). Each parabola allowed for the filming of a key sequence in the scene.

The 20 seconds of weightlessness audiences will see on film leads the crash sequence, with Nick trying desperately to grab parachutes from the plane wall and pass one to Jenny. Each take filmed was unpredictable as the cast and crew floated weightless around the plane cabin…at the mercy of physics.

Again the interior of the set was all rubber, this time with obvious weight and safety restrictions for the in-flight journey. This real plane set was 10% less wide and 40% lower in height than the cargo plane set rig that was built on the studio stage.

Tuohy concludes that the interplay between the Zero G flight and the cargo set had to be perfect. He ends: “We wanted to keep everything as real as possible, so the trick is for us to try and do that seamlessly between the real Zero G flight and the physical SFX done on stage.”

The Mummy is distributed by United International Pictures through Columbia Pictures.

McCoy de Leon and Elisse Joson Ask "If We Fall In Love" in First Joint Single

One of the country's most promising love teams, McLisse, composed of McCoy de Leon and Elisse Joson will make fans fall in love will their rendition of the song "If We Fall In Love, to be released by Star Music.

"We're both nervous and excited to share it with you guys. We're excited because this is another 'first time' for us as a love team," said Elisse.

"We really prepared for this. We really took it seriously," says McCoy. "I kept playing the song on repeat until I was already dreaming about it."

Producer Rox Santos also shared that he had no difficulty working with the pair as the song suited them well. He also teased that there is a possibility for an album for the pair.

"We picked 'If We Fall In Love' because we all know their love team really swoons fans, and their journey is really something people watch out for every now and then," said Rox. "So why not come up with a song that would bring out the 'kilig' in fans, and at the same time reflects the real score between them?"

Elisse also added, "When I read the lyrics, I said the song matches us. It's difficult to say if it perfectly matches us, but I feel it's really fitting."

Hashtags member McCoy said he also feels a connection with the song, stating that "If We Fall In Love" does convey his status with Elisse. "There are still questions about what's happening between us. We still don't know what's here, so the song really suits us," he said.

The ballad, originally performed by Yeng Constantino and RJ Jimenez, was written and composed by RJ during his stay as a contestant in the 2006 hit talent-reality show "Pinoy Dream Academy."

Arriving with power, grace, wisdom and wonder, Warner Bros. Pictures' Wonder Woman pulled off the year's biggest non-holiday opening day record as it grossed a whopping P48.39-M on its first day of release (including midnight previews) yesterday, June 1.

This was announced today by Francis Soliven, General Manager of Warner Bros. Philippines.

The first solo feature film about the famed Amazonian princess-warrior, Wonder Woman bested the opening day gross of last March's Beauty and the Beast (at P47-M), and also claimed the biggest first-day haul of 2017 for a Warner Bros. Title (surpassing Kong: Skull Island).

Attracting 205,041 total admissions from 510 screens nationwide, Wonder Woman's other first-day records include the 2nd Biggest Opening Day of the Year, right after Fast & Furious 8's P56-M which was established on a Black Saturday holiday; 3rd Biggest Opening Day for a WB Film All-Time (ahead of Suicide Squad at P29.7-M) and 3rd Biggest June Opening Day All-Time Industry-Wide (outgrossing Transformers: Age of Extinction at P39.7-M.)

Now playing across the Philippines, "Wonder Woman" is distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

TFC Live Joins Canada 150’s Celebration of Diversity with World-Class Filipino Concert “ASAP in Toronto”

Canada truly embraces diversity and two of its world-renowned leaders emphasized this as they ushered in 2017.

On the eve of the beginning of the of the 150 th anniversary of Canada – also known as the sesquicentennial anniversary of Canadian Confederation – no less than Queen Elizabeth II, the Queen of United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand and Canada, praised the nation for having “earned a reputation as a welcoming, respectful and compassionate country.”

The Queen encouraged everybody “to continue to embody the values of equality, freedom and inclusion” and “to remind the world of the importance of protecting those values and of passing them on to future generations.”

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau echoed the same sentiments and sent a powerful statement to the nation: “Together, I know we will continue to build the diverse and prosperous country that we are all so proud to call home.”

Today, in a country where one out of 5 people is foreign born, almost one million Filipinos call Canada their new home even as they continue to honor their Filipino roots and heritage.

It is in this spirit and context that ABS-CBN’s TFC Live is bringing to Canada its most successful touring Filipino concert that showcases the best of Filipino talent and entertainment.

Come July 29, 2017, Saturday, at the storied Ricoh Coliseum – a venue where a vast range of musical icons from Jimi Hendrix to Pitbull have performed – “ASAP Live in Toronto” promises to be the biggest and grandest Filipino event to celebrate Canada’s 150 th anniversary.

Diversity and inclusion are among the main themes of the Government of Canada’s vision for its 150 th anniversary.  ABS-CBN TFC Live’s ‘ASAP in Toronto’ is a musical and cultural expression of those themes. It’s Filipinos representing artistically in Canada’s grand anniversary narrative that celebrates multiple dimensions of this country,” said ABS-CBN Canada’s Country Manager Jun Del Rosario.

There are great expectations for “ASAP Live in Toronto” as its reputation precedes it. “ASAP” is the longest running, most successful weekend variety show that airs live on Philippine television.  It is produced by ABS-CBN, the world’s largest Filipino-owned media and entertainment network.  In 2012, “ASAP turned into an international giant touring live event when it brought about 40 stars to Singapore’s MAX Pavilion EXPO.  Since then, “ASAP Live” has travelled to Dubai Festival City, Los Angeles Sports Arena, London’s The SSE Arena, Wembley, and New York’s Barclays Center, selling out back-to- back concerts in those venues.

Yes, that’s right: back-to- back concerts in one night.  Part of the unique and tremendous value of an “ASAP Live” show is that ticket holders get to see not one, but TWO world-class concerts in one show because both concerts become two full episodes that will be aired exclusively by ABS-CBN in the Philippines and on TFC worldwide. So, yes, get ready to be part of “ASAP Live” on television!

On the same day of the concert, ABS-CBN TFC Live will include the Marketplace that will unveil export quality Filipino products, delightful Filipino food and unique interactive activities for the entire family.  This allows ticket buyers to enjoy a full day of interesting offerings prior to the main concert.

Everyone is also encouraged to download the TFC Live App for a full experience that allows ticket buyers to see and navigate through the complete breadth of activities that include contests, games, freebies and exciting prizes.  They can also connect with fellow attendees by using the handy networking features of the app.

For more information including how to purchase tickets to ABS-CBN TFC Live’s “ASAP Live in Toronto” on July 29 at the Ricoh Coliseum, visit http://www.tfc-ca.com/asaptoronto/

"The Voice Teens" Coaches Lea, Sarah, Bamboo, and Sharon's 8 Most Aggressive Pleas to Artists During Blind Audition

“The Voice’s” blind auditions stage is the most exciting part of the competition. It’s almost surreal to see the superstar coaches use various tricks and rhetoric to woo aspiring artists to join their respective teams.

But the country’s first-ever season of “The Voice Teens” has brought the competition among coaches Lea Salonga, Sarah Geronimo, Bamboo, and Sharon Cuneta to a whole new level – all of them using persuasive speech and making promises to the artists to get their attention.

Which coaches gave the most convincing plea to pursue the artists? Will the coaches live up to their promises come the battle rounds next week?

Let’s take a look at all the memorable moments where the coaches used their power of persuasion to assemble a solid team:

COACH LEA

1)  Mica Becerro

Four-chair turner and opera singer Mica stunned all the coaches when she took on an aria called "Queen Of The Night.” But Mica ended up choosing coach Lea, who was almost moved to tears when she shared her story about how classical singing technique saved her life “in the most literal sense” when she was doing “Miss Saigon.”

Coach Lea: I just wanted to share this with you only so that I can tell another person how important that kind of technique is and how happy I am na sa murang edad mo, you have it already. Sana more singers, more aspiring singers that watch this show take a cue from you, na sana seryosohin nila, na huwag nilang pagtawanan ang opera o makalumang kanta.

2)  Patrick Corporal

Given the history of “The Voice,” it’s typical of guitar-slinging artists who compose their own songs to join Kamp Kawayan. But Patrick eventually chose coach Lea, who he believed would “fly me to the moon,” much to her own astonishment.

Coach Lea: There is so much potential and it is a very clean soothing (voice). Feel ko lang alam mo na kung sino ka as an artist and it gives u a leg-up on the competition.

COACH SARAH

3)  Gia Gonzales

All the four coaches battled hard to recruit Gia whose “current” sound and beaming stage presence mesmerized the coaches. Coach Sarah stepped up to the moment and brought out her Season 1 finalist Klarisse, who said that because she and coach Sarah are not far apart in age, their coach-artist relationship blossomed into a friendship. Gia would eventually decide on working with the coach who would “make me feel at home and help me develop my talent as a star’ – the popstar royalty.

Coach Sarah: I really enjoyed hearing you sing… Nag-manifest pa ‘yun when I saw you perform, the way you moved, the way you danced to the song. You are a natural. You are a  star. Pretty girl pa!

4)  Mikko Estrada

The teen heartthrob charmed the four coaches with his refreshing blind audition. But in the end, he picked coach Sarah, who had to put up a fight by bringing out two shirts – one that says “My Coach” and “My Champion” – assuring Mikko that she would take him to the top.

COACH BAMBOO

5)  Isabela Vinzon

The daughter of actor Roi Vinzon, Isabela shared that she wants to follow in her father’s footsteps but that she wants to be recognized for her singing. Coach Bamboo, the only coach who has not dabbled in acting, used this point as an advantage to woo the teen artist.

Coach Bamboo: Gusto mo ibang path. It’s what I love to do, it’s what I am. I’ve chosen nothing but music. I am a soldier of music. That is what I am. You have my full attention in Kamp Kawayan.

6)  Emarjhun De Guzman

Proud LGBT member Emarjhun De Guzman’s reggae-tinged voice got three coaches to turn around for him, and even taught the coaches some gay lingo terms. Coach Bamboo, to the delight of the coaches and the audience, even used the gay lingo terms to convince Emarjhun to join Kamp Kawayan.

Coach Bamboo: That was “epek” (great). Ang ganda ng performance mo. It was the right song. You have the right vocal quality for that kind of song. I’m doing that, and that’s the truth, that’s no “charot” (joke).

COACH SHARON

7)  Alessandra Galvez

While Alessandra’s unique take on “Oops I Did It Again” stood out, coach Bamboo said that her voice needed “cleaning.” But coach Sharon, whose sense of humor often adds fun and sparkle to the coaches’ verbal back-and-forth, declared that she would help Alessandra reach her full potential.

Coach Sharon: If you pick me to be your coach, I will polish you, vacuum you, dust you, sweep you. I will clean everything… But seriously, I hope you choose me.

8)  Heather Hawkins

English-born and Singapore-raised Heather’s subtle and heartfelt take of “Make You Feel My Love” swayed all the coaches. But she chose to join the team of coach Sharon, who asserted her seniority and used her experience as her main selling point.

Coach Sharon: You are in the Philippines. We have someone from Broadway. We have the pop princess. We have the rock icon. I am the most senior here. You grew up in Singapore, I grew up in this business. I can teach you everything I know. Come on, baby, you know you want me!

Watch out for more talented young artists in the last blind audition episdoe of “The Voice Teens” this Saturday (June 3) and first Battle Round competition this Sunday (June 4).
