TFC proudly celebrates the unshakable spirit, the unique talents, and the united camaraderie of the Filipino American community via three major events happening on October 14 across the West Coast in celebration of Filipino American History Month.
Daly City hosts its very own Filipino-American History Month Celebration at the Marchbank Park located at 10 South Parkview Avenue from 11:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. There will be food trucks, arts and crafts, a beer garden, several vendor booths, and entertainment from homegrown talent. There will be free parking at the DC Station Garage and Marchbank Park is accessible on the second floor. This is a free event and everyone is invited.
Entertainment throughout the day will be provided by Melvinsings, Maddie B, Mike Dayao, Jeremy Passion, Mistah B and Gelson, Little Manila Dance Collective and Kulintang Academy.
BA’s Desk Editor Henni Espinosa, and Correspondent Rommel Conclara, will be hosting segments of the event. Adobo Nation’s Tet Hernandez, Katrina Dimaranan, Hannah Tolentino, and Lee Robin Salazar will host the TFC Hour from 2:00 until 3:00 P.M. Headlining the TFC Hour is Drop N Harmony, also known as DnH. The group was one of the pioneer Filipino American R&B and pop artists that invaded the independent music scene during the late 90s into the early 2000s.
Drop N Harmony, composed of Jose “Sway” Penala, Darrell Seegmiller, Lionel Domulot, and Neomar Aragona is reuniting after a long hiatus to bring their signature soulful sound and seductive rhythm to fans who long for their music, and to a new generation of audiences who would easily groove to their songs. Those who would like to volunteer to help at this event may sign up here.
The Festival of Philippine Arts and Culture (FPAC) will also be held on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2017, at the Echo Park Lake in Echo Park, Los Angeles. This festival is the largest and longest-running Filipino cultural celebration in L.A. Those who attend this event will be treated to the best of traditional and contemporary Filipino food, music, performances, and arts and crafts.
Apl.de.Ap, of The Black-Eyed Peas, and Jessica Reynoso, who rose to fame when she finished off as a finalist in season one of the popular reality competition, The Voice of the Philippines will headline the TFC show. BA’s Yong Chavez and Steve Angeles will also be there. Other guests and performers at the festival are Los Angeles Lakers’ Jordan Clarkson, DJ Virman, Kronika (Soulection), Anatalia Villaranda of The Voice Season 12, Bella Fiasco, Joel Quizon (Disco Manila), and many more.
The Global Tawag ng Tanghalan (Call of the Stage) North America Region Finals will also happen on October 14 at the main auditorium of the Ed W. Clark High School in Las Vegas, Nevada. “Hurados” (judges) from the Tawag ng Tanghalan segment of the popular noontime show, It’s Showtime, will cast their votes for the North America representative to the Global Tawag ng Tanghalan grand championship to be held in the Philippines. The hurados are Poprock Superstar Yeng Constantino, King of Teleserye and Movie Theme Songs Erik Santos, and OPM icon Rey Valera.
Alexis Amber Magsambol, Rachel Bergado, and Jamil Pidlaoan (all from California, USA); Marie Joy Amaro (Texas, USA); Jing Wenghofer (Illinois, USA); Elizabeth Sooy (New Jersey, USA); Abigali Natnat and Jean Pauline Aytona (both from Ontario, Canada); Danielle Jade Laganson (Alberta, Canada); and Venus Therese Ramos (Manitoba, Canada) are vying to be the North America representative to the grand championship in the Philippines.
The best of Filipino American talents take the spotlight in these three simultaneous celebrations of Filipino American History Month in an expression of a culture that is unshakable, unique, and united.
