Gretchen Ho Named “Happinews” Ambassador of “The Happinews Project”

Over a hundred students turned a rainy Friday night into a bright and sunny one as they listened to inspiring talks on positivity and kindness in the launch of "The Happinews Project" at the University of the Philippines (UP) Bahay ng Alumni in UP Diliman.

"The Happinews Project," is a movement that encourages Filipinos to post and share positive stories on social media as a way to counter the bad news and negativity that proliferate online. Currently, over a thousand people have joined the Facebook group of The Happinews Project, which will also go to the University of Santo Tomas and Far Eastern University to spread the good vibes to more people.

Fresh from her London trip, "Happinews" ambassador Gretchen Ho recounted how losing her bag in a foreign land and being locked out of the place she was staying in actually led to good things.

"I lost my belongings but I also witnessed first-hand the kindness of Filipinos who volunteered to help me. Even if what happened to me was bad, there was still a better side to the story," she said.

Gretchen added that it is "happy news" like this that should circulate more on social media.

"We should share more happy thoughts, happy stories, happy news, in a world that's full of bad news and conflicts. We need a breath of fresh air. Why don't we highlight instead these small acts of kindness," she explained.

In her talk, Dr. Rosel San Pascual of UP pointed out the incivility among people that has made social media an even more toxic place. She said that people should learn how to express disagreements "intelligently, passionately, and respectfully."

ABS-CBN Creative Communications Management division head Robert Labayen, an advertising legend who leads the team behind ABS-CBN's well-loved Station IDs, also advised the students, who were mostly communication and business majors, to use positive communication when creating a brand.

"It builds a warmer relationship with your audience. If you make them feel good about themselves, they will feel good about you," he explained.

UP alumnus Miggy Bautista, meanwhile, shared how positivity was key for him in getting through college with flying colors, even as a person with a disability. Gawad Kalinga's Issa Cuevas-Santos, on the other hand, reminded the students not to put too much pressure on themselves when it comes to making a difference in the world.

"You don't have to be the superhero every single time. You just have to be the good one. Being good is enough because it inspires others to do good," she said.

Apart from the inspiring talks, the students also enjoyed fun booths like a freedom wall, photo booth, and games in the event, which was held in partnership with UP Ad Core.

Joshua Ambrosio, president of the student organization, said they were happy to help share an interesting advocacy to the UP community.

"A lot of times when you are in school, you get tunnel vision. You are so focused on what you are doing that you forget to see like other happy stuff outside and your immediate experiences," he said.

Loudette Tejada, a business administration major, also praised The Happinews Project, which is an initiative of the ABS-CBN Integrated News & Current Affairs.

"It's good that we are inviting more people to join the Happinews group. I really think it is a good way to engage people to share the happy vibes," she said.

#MeTime with Watsons: Loving Your Beauty, Health, and Wellness More

'I'm busy!'

This is everyone's favorite line.  We glorify being busy because we are pressured to achieve a lot, all at once: to climb the corporate ladder, take care of our family's needs, raise children, and manage the household all while curating our lives into a perfect feed on social media.

"Busy" is our badge of honor.   But is it really?

Because when you are too "busy" 'round the clock, day in and day out, you end up giving everything and everyone else that one precious gift that you deserve to first give yourself:

Your time.

Make Time for #MeTime!

Whether you are a stay-at-home parent or a professional with a killer schedule, you need to pause, take a break, and make time for #MeTime. The reason is simple: You owe it to yourself and to those you care for to take time to recharge and be your beautiful and healthy best.

Watsons takes to heart this self-caring philosophy with the "Make Time for #MeTime" campaign.  This campaign inspires everyone to take time to take care of themselves with Watsons' skin, beauty, hair, and health products plus a wide range of cosmetics that are perfect for a relaxing treat at home.

Pamper your skin

What better way to spend #MeTime than lavishing your neglected skin with love? Watsons' range of products from Ponds, Olay, Neutrogena, St. Ives, Belo, Celeteque, Mediheal, Snow, and Garnier have all the skin-pampering love to keep your complexion fresh and radiant.

Revitalize your hair

The perfect place to spend some #MeTime effortlessly?  In the shower, of course!  Treat your strands to Watsons' hair products from Creamsilk, Palmolive, Lauat Shampoo, Suave, Dove, and Moringa and give your locks a luxurious #MeTime treat.

Get gorgeous

Take some #MeTime to swipe on some lipstick or paint your nails!  Watsons' extensive collection of cosmetics from Celeteque, Belle, and Chic Bobbie will get you gorgeous in no time.

Nourish from within

There's no other way to put it: To be truly beautiful, you need to be healthy.  That's why your #MeTime must also include taking care of yourself from within with Watsons' range of supplements and health products from Enervon, Cosmo Skin, Poten-cee, MX3, and Salonpas.

Busy is the enemy of Health and Beauty

Are you too busy to be beautifully healthy? All it takes is a trip to Watsons to curate a set of health and beauty revitalizers and treat yourself to some well-deserved #MeTime! Plus, if you're an SM Advantage Card holder and purchase at least P500 worth of products, you can even win an iPhone X while you're at it!

Indeed, with Watsons, #MeTime is not only essential.  It is rewarding.

Less stress. More self-love.

At the end of the day, making time for #MeTime is all about stressing less and loving your beauty, health, and wellness more.  At a time when everyone is busy with bucket lists and to-do lists, don't forget to make time for that one person who deserves all the extra TLC you pour out to everybody else: Yourself!

After all, when you love yourself, you can love others more. And when you do, you don't only look good, but you also feel great!

Selena Gomez and Andy Samberg Back as Mavis and Johnny in “Hotel Transylvania 3: A Monster Vacation”

Selena Gomez and Andy Samberg return to the roles of Dracula's daughter Mavis and her human husband Johnny in Hotel Transylvania 3: A Monster Vacation, after the great experience of working on the previous two films of the franchise.

In Samberg's words: "I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the first movie, because it genuinely made me laugh and entertained me."

"I agree!" follows Gomez. "I love the animation, and it's nice to be a part of something that everyone can watch."

Always cool and optimistic, Gomez's character, Mavis, can do it all.  She handles all of her responsibilities – Hotel Transylvania assistant manager, wife, mom, daughter – with ease!  The one thing she wished she had?  More family time.  This cruise is just what she needed!  She can't wait to have a blast with Drac's entire Pack and get some quality time with Johnny, Dennis and of course her dad, Drac.

"I love making people laugh – it's the best feeling in the world," says Gomez.  "It's so great to have a family to come back to, and you never know what to expect with these movies – imagine the monster versions of shuffleboard, scuba diving, underwater volcanoes, moon tans on the beach – and it wouldn't be a vacation without a little adventure."

"I feel such an emotional connection with Mavis," Gomez continues.  "She's a mom who wants to bring everyone together and enjoy a relaxing time together with family.  Of course all family vacations are a mixed bag – that's what makes them funny.  But her heart is clearly in the in the right place."

Meanwhile, human Johnny always manages to stay mellow but he's stoked about the cruise's all-night monster music festival. What he doesn't realize is that the fate of all monsters will depend on his mid-90's DJ skills.

"Johnny may not have a lot of growth," admits director Genndy Tartakovsky, "but he always has that deep insight.  He's always fun and always keeping people on a really optimistic, positive side of life."

Comparing the experience of voicing an animated character with shooting live action, Samberg was clear, "I enjoy voicing an animated character because it's a freeing, crazy and literally cartoony experience. There are just less filters. And it's wonderful to improvise because it could be anything, and then they have the power to make it happen and animate the scene slightly differently. So, one of the most exciting things about the process for me is to know that if you add something crazy it can then come to life!"

And throwing the rest of the monsters into the mix just created a very entertaining dynamic again, without forgetting the underlining themes that are at the core of these movies. "There are so many films with the same old perceptions about monsters, but I believe that many people can also relate to those who are outcast or feared," says Gomez. "So I love that these films have always been about self-acceptance and being different, which I think is a message that is more relevant than ever now."

Concludes Samberg, "There is definitely a running theme in all these movies about the fact that if you actually spend the time to get to know people or monsters, you may realize that they are not really what you are afraid of."

In Philippine cinemas August 22Hotel Transylvania 3: A Monster Vacation is distributed by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International.

Alden Richards Takes on an Extraordinary Mission in Kapuso Fantaseries “Victor Magtanggol”, Premieres July 30 on GMA Telebabad

Expect no less than the best from GMA Network with the launch of the highly-anticipated and ground-breaking telefantasya, Victor Magtanggol.

Inspired by the Norse Mythology, the drama series features the country's most respected and talented artists headlined by Kapuso prime actor Alden Richards who is all set to take on an extraordinary mission of protecting good from evil as Victor Magtanggol.

Making the series even grander are the actors in the mythological world: John Estrada as Loki, the god of deception who wants to get hold of the Mjolnir to use its power to create monstrous offsprings; Andrea Torres as Sif, the last wife of Thor and the golden-haired goddess of love and family who trains Victor how to control his powers and use the Mjolnir; Pancho Magno as Modi, Thor's son and the god of battle who will eventually be one of Victor's greatest rivals; Miguel Faustman as Magni/Magnus, the other son of Thor who kept the Mjolnir and with the special participation of Conan Stevens as Thor, the god of thunder and owner of the powerful hammer, Mjolnir.

Joining the powerhouse ensemble are the important characters in Victor's life: The Magtanggol Family of Victor with Al Tantay as Tomas Magtanggol, a loving father to Victor and his siblings; Chynna Ortaleza as Lynette Magtanggol-Domingo, the strict yet caring older sister of Victor; Dion Ignacio as Perci Domingo, the devoted and funny husband of Lynette; Lindsay De Vera as Anne Magtanggol, the kikay cosplayer and younger sister of Victor; Reese Tuazon as Honeylyn, Anne's best friend; Yuan Francisco as Meloy Domingo, the sole child of Lynette and Perci and the first one to know the secret identity of his uncle Victor; and playing a very important role is Ms. Coney Reyes as Vivienne, the mother of Victor who got separated from him after a long time.

Playing equally vital roles are the members of the Regalado Family: Eric Quizon as Hector Regalado, the ambitious and hungry for power politician; Freddie Webb as Renato Regalado, the father of Hector; Maritoni Fernandez as Alice Regalado, the second wife of Hector; Kristoffer Martin as Lance Espiritu, the brooding and enigmatic stepson of Hector; and Janine Gutierrez as Gwen Regalado, Hector's daughter who becomes a field reporter covering news about Hammerman. Eventually, she falls in love with him.

Victor works as an OFW to look for his mother Vivienne (Coney Reyes). He becomes friends with Magnus (Miguel Faustman), the curator of the museum where he works for. Magnus' life will be jeopardized because of Loki (John Estrada). Victor will find out that Magnus is not a mortal being and he is the god Magni and one of Thor's sons. Before Magnus dies, he will give Victor a magical compass that will lead Victor to a mysterious mountain. Victor will find an iron gauntlet that will allow him to use the Mjolnir, the powerful hammer of Thor (Conan Stevens).

Victor comes home to the Philippines and becomes Hammerman, the courageous superhero of his town. In his adventures, he battles monsters and form alliances with Norse gods in order to protect the people he loves from the schemes of Loki.

The creative team of the TV series is composed of headwriter Denoy Punio with writers Glaiza Ramirez, Ken De Leon, brainstormers Marlon Miguel, Erwin Bravo and concept creator Jules Katanyag.

Leading the team are creative director Roy Iglesias, creative consultants Suzette Doctolero, and Dode Cruz.

As a group, we are more on pop, but for the concert we're going to show our own styles. For me, personally, it's rock like Bon Jovi," shared Yasser, a finalist of Eat…Bulaga's "Spogify" segment. After that stint, he then went on to make appearances in the late-night show Walang Tulugan of the late Master Showman, German Moreno.

He added, "The concert isn't like any show we do out of town. It will run for two hours. That's why we work out for endurance so that our energy from start to end will be the same."

Their recently released single, "Smile," will also be the boy band's key song to serenade the audience as they deliver their messages of love and gratitude to their fans.

"If you saw earlier, there were parts where we performed as a group. Then, we were six for the dance and singing. You can see that in our concert. That's the taste of what we will be doing. There will be numbers that will be three-by-threes for the dance and then duets and the full band. There's going to be beatbox, a capella, drummers and also keyboard," noted one member.

"We go to the gym to be fit and for our talent, we have to train our voices for the concert. You have to be focused all the time," says Thai-Filipino Joemarie Nielsen. He was a finalist of Starstruck who reached 13th place overall in the competition.

Joining them onstage are fellow Kapuso stars Migo Adecer, Karlo Duterte, Sofia Pablo, Will Ashley and Andrea Torres. The concert is produced by Gion Prestige Productions, under the direction of Marvin Caldito with choreography by Mark Benzon Pelota.

Tickets, priced at P1,600, are now available for purchase at SMTickets.com.
