How ABS-CBN Teleseryes are Called in Other Countries

As much as Filipinos watch out for the latest Asianovela hits from Korea, China, Taiwan, or Japan, foreign viewers abroad also look forward to ABS-CBN dramas from the Philippines that air on their local TV stations. No one may have coined it yet, but we can say there is also a "Filipinovela" craze among non-Filipino viewers who are big fans of our local teleseryes.
If Korea has its Lee Min Ho, the Philippines has Jericho Rosales, whose dramas such as "Pangako Sa 'Yo" and "Dahil May Isang Ikaw" are among the most sold worldwide.  Ever wondered how ABS-CBN dramas such as "FPJ's Ang Probinsyano," "Tubig at Langis," "Dugong Buhay," "Sana Bukas Pa ang Kahapon" and "Lobo" are called in foreign countries?
Check them out in the video below:

ABS-CBN dramas are distributed in different parts of the world through the company's international syndication business led by ABS-CBN International Distribution.
ABS-CBN International Distribution has been recognized in the global arena as a reliable foreign content provider. It has been a premier source of high quality Filipino programming in over 50 territories all over the world and has sold over 30,000 hours of content worldwide. Coca-Cola Pays Tribute to Those Who Brings Us the Merriest Christmas - Our #TagaHatidPasko

The holiday season is often marked with its trademark rush – people hustling through their shopping lists trying to complete it before Christmas Eve and passengers crowding bus stations, airports, and other terminals to get home in time for noche buena. But it's not the same for everyone, as every Christmas season, thousands of people work tirelessly just to make sure that everyone else can celebrate and feel the yuletide spirit.

This year, Coca-Cola paid tribute to people more popularly known as "Tagahatid Pasko", highlighting how their hard work, dedication, and sacrifice has made it possible for everyone to have the merriest celebrations this season. All throughout December, the Company gave gifts and surprises to over 15,000 Tagahatid Pasko around the country as their way of thanking the various unsung heroes of Christmas who tirelessly work to bring a merry season for everyone else.

On Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, several Tagahatid Pasko were surprised by Christmas carolers and associates with ice-cold bottles of Coca-Cola at their workplaces. Over 15,000 Santa packs filled with food items and special gifts greeted the unsung heroes of Christmas who were still in their workplaces.

"This is our way of expressing our gratitude to the people who help us make Christmas happen in our own homes – be it the grocery clerk who makes sure the shelves are well-stocked, or the gift-wrapping teams who work until midnight at department stores, or the toll booth operator who works overtime just so everyone can come home in time for Christmas. To all of you, thank you!" said Stephan Czypionka, Coca-Cola Philippines Vice President for Marketing.

One of the Tagahatid Pasko is Carla Dominique Diego, who works in the gift-wrapping section of a leading department store. Since the onset of the Christmas season, she has been working longer hours in order to accommodate all the customers. "Pag Christmas season, napakarami po talagang nagpapagift-wrap. Nakakalungkot lang isipin na hindi ko man lang naaasikaso yung mga regalo para sa family ko dahil busy ako sa pagbabalot ng mga regalo ng ibang tao," she said.

Wait staff are also one of those who tirelessly work overtime during the Christmas season to allow others to celebrate the festivities with their loved-ones and friends. Jerico Gonzales, who works the night-shift at a restaurant, says that the holiday rush makes its more challenging for them. "May mga guests akona bumabalik-balik, at naiisip koang saya nilasana ganyandin nararanasan ko ngayonPaskong-pasko, di ko manlangnakakasama ang pamilya ko," he said.

24-year-old Red Cross volunteer and Tagahatid Pasko Brenda Paule recalls joining her team in the aftermath of Typhoon Yolanda to bring the spirit of Christmas to typhoon survivors and other relief workers.

"Sharing the joy of Christmas is more than gifts; it's about being there for others. There is no joy like seeing the smile on the face of others because of something that you have done. And that for me is the priceless reward of what we do," a misty-eyed Paule said.

For the past four years, Paule has spent her noche buena in the streets, ready to respond to any untoward incident that may arise.

The Coca-Cola Christmas campaign did not stop with giving out Santa sacks, celebrities also joined the celebration by being this year's Tagahatid Pasko during the Metro Manila Film Festival 2016 Parade by giving out ice-cold bottles of Coca-Cola. While a Christmas Concert, top-billed by the country's best musicians and most popular love-teams, together with Coca-Cola Ambassadors James Reid, Nadine LustreEnchong Dee, Ylona Garcia and Bailey May, serenaded and performed for over 300 unsung heroes of Christmas from partner companies earlier this month.

Together with Coca-Cola in thanking all our TagahatidPasko this year are partner organizations Sta. Lucia East Grand Mall, Rotary Club Philippines, Shakey's Pizza, McDonald's, Grab, iFlix, Robinsons Mall, Jollibee, Zomato, 5by20 Women Artisans of Tondo, 7-Eleven, Shell, Select, Mini Stop, Metro Manila Development Authority, Djarn Manpower, Sentinel, Tropical Hut Pasay City, the Philippine National Police, and VXI.

Theirs is a relatively fresh-faced love triangle, with Julia Barretto in her first rom com role and starring with two up and coming actors, Joshua Garcia and Ronnie Alonte.

This Christmas, Star Cinema comes out with its romantic comedy Vince and Kath and James or VKJ, which is also an entry to the 2016 Metro Manila Film Festival directed by Theodore Boborol. The film is based on Vince and Kath (James character was added in the film version), an online series written by Jenny Ruth Almocera. “Nabuo ‘yung kwento through text messages. When you read the book, it’s just literally text messages. So with the movie, we’re going to bring it to life, as well as the characters,” explains Julia Barretto who plays the female lead, Kath.

Matthew McConaughey Bursts with Optimism as Koala Showman in SING

Oscar Best Actor winner Matthew McConaughey provides the voice of the optimistic koala Buster Moon who is determined to save his struggling theater despite dwindling audiences, in Universal Pictures and Illumination's Sing.

While anyone else would have faced reality and switched careers, Buster has an unrelenting drive to succeed, by any means necessary. Well-intentioned, he does have a habit of stretching the truth, which usually widens the hole into which he's digging himself. Nonetheless, he has an irresistible charm because his passion and optimism are utterly contagious.

For the role of Buster Moon, director Garth Jennings found one name immediately came to mind: Matthew McConaughey, whose career has spanned roles ranging from the deeply dramatic Interstellar and Dallas Buyers Club to the absurdly humorous Dazed and Confused. "Matthew realized quite quickly that in order for his character to work, his optimism had to be infectious," Jennings states. "He had a way of making Buster incredibly endearing and incredibly relatable."

"At the very beginning of the movie, you meet Buster Moon as a six-year-old koala," Jennings discusses. "He is taken to the theater for the first time by his father, and it completely blows his mind. This experience has a transformative effect, and he grows up desperate to be part of the theater world. We then meet present-day Buster, and he owns the theater that he fell in love with."

As Jennings and Illumination founder Chris Meledandri developed and shaped the character of Buster Moon, each inevitably found himself inspired by this showman who—through sheer force of will—was attempting to accomplish the nearly impossible. Armed solely with a singular passion to imagine and execute an event that would truly connect with audiences, young and old, Buster is the ultimate creator.

Sing stars Academy Award® winners Matthew McConaughey and Reese Witherspoon, alongside Seth McFarlane, Scarlett Johansson, John C. Reilly, Taron Egerton and Grammy Award-nominated Tori Kelly.

Set in a world like ours but entirely inhabited by animals, Sing stars Buster Moon (McConaughey), a dapper koala who presides over a once-grand theater that has fallen on hard times. Buster is an eternal—some might even say delusional—optimist who loves his theater above all and will do anything to preserve it. Now faced with the crumbling of his life's ambition, he has one final chance to restore his fading jewel to its former glory by producing the world's greatest singing competition.

Five lead contestants emerge: Mike (MacFarlane), a mouse who croons as smoothly as he cons; Meena (Kelly), a timid teenage elephant with an enormous case of stage fright; Rosita (Witherspoon), an overtaxed mother run ragged tending a litter of 25 piglets; Johnny (Egerton), a young gangster gorilla looking to break free of his family's felonies; and Ash (Johansson), a punk-rock porcupine struggling to shed her arrogant boyfriend and go solo.

Each arrives under Buster's marquee believing that this is their shot to change the course of their life. And as Buster coaches each of his contestants closer and closer to the grand finale, he starts to learn that maybe the theater isn't the only thing that is in need of saving.

Opening across the Philippines on January 04, 2017, Sing is distributed by United International Pictures through Columbia Pictures. #SingMovie

Zoe Zaldana Captures the Heart of Ben Affleck in LIVE BY NIGHT

Known to global audiences as Gamora and Uhura in the Guardians of the Galaxy and Star Trek franchises, respectively, Zoe Saldana now portrays the exotic Graciela in Warner Bros. Pictures' new gangster film Live by Night.

Directed by Ben Affleck, Live by Night tells the story of Joe Coughlin (Affleck), a WWI vet who's a self-proclaimed anti-establishment outlaw, despite being the son of the Boston Police Deputy Superintendent. Joe's not all bad, though; in fact, he's not really bad enough for the life he's chosen. Unlike the gangsters he refuses to work for, he has a sense of justice and an open heart, and both work against him, leaving him vulnerable time and again - in business and in love.

Joe signs on with the Italian mob and is dispatched to Tampa, Florida where he almost immediately encounters Graciela. He is instantly intrigued, even more so when he learns that she and her brother control something integral to the success of the rum business: molasses.

Saldana's Graciela is a Cuban living in Ybor, a multi-ethnic, multi-racial community of hardworking immigrants, known for the production of cigars. "Joe's been working with barbaric, violent criminals his whole life, so there's an integrity to the people, Graciela's people, that Joe finds appealing," she suggests. "And Graciela is unlike other women he's known. She's educated, she's traveled and studied music and art. She's very cultured and also very smart when it comes to her family's business."

Perhaps what sets Graciela apart from the women in Joe's past is what she really wants out of life. "I don't think Graciela woke up in Cuba and said to herself, 'I want to date gangsters, I want to live on the dark side,'" Saldana adds. "I think she wants a full life with a good man, a home, children. The more time she spends with Joe, the more she realizes that she could have all that with this man. She sees who he really is, who he could be, if he could wash away all the bad that he does at night by doing good during the day. She sees his redemption."

Affleck states, "Zoe was amazing. She was able to convey all the strength and confidence and elusiveness of the character that draw Joe in, but it's Graciela's expectations of him that give him something to strive for, which Zoe played so quietly yet powerfully."

Producer Jennifer Todd concurs, "We were lucky to get Zoe because she has all these beautiful qualities, a lightness and grace, that suit Graciela so well, and she already speaks Spanish, but she applied an exquisite Cuban accent to her dialogue."

Opening across the Philippines on January 18, 2017, Live By Night is distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

FWD Life Philippines Infuses Financial Education to Pinoy Millennials via PISO TALES Stories on Wattpad

img_1944

FWD Life, the country’s fastest-growing insurance company, has teamed-up with Wattpad the largest online storytelling community in order to impart financial life lessons to millennials via its “Piso Tales” advocacy campaign.

img_1899-fullsizerender

FWD Life Philippines’ Head of Marketing Roche Vandenberghe believes that the “Piso Tales” advocacy is the best way to instill financial literacy to young people.

At FWD, Piso Tales is truly close to our heart. As a company which aims to encourage Filipinos to live life without hesitation, we are delighted to breathe life to this advocacy campaign. We clearly recognize the potential of the country’s millennial market and, through this advocacy, we are reaching out to a huge segment that has been, thus far, quite underserved in terms of financial education. Our partnership with Wattpad is premised on the idea that financial literacy need not be boring. And the Piso Tales campaign is entirely aligned with our vision to change the way people feel about insurance,” she said.

img_1937

Wattpad Business Operations and Strategy Lead Chris Stefanyk describes the partnership with FWD Life unique and exciting.

FWD Life’s Piso Tales campaign will empower a new generation of Filipinos to take control of their finances to prepare for their and their loved one’s future. FWD has been an exciting partner for us because even before we started discussing with them they really understand that in today’s world you really need to be reaching and communicating to teens with a very authentic voice. The Piso Tales advocacy is very unique in the sense that top Filipino Wattpad writers deliver unique content and impart financial literacy in a very unique way. We are very excited about this opportunity and we are excited to see the results in the coming weeks and we are looking forward to future programs and partnership with FWD Life Philippines,” he said.

Adspark Business Director Miki Yukiho can relate to the campaign because he’s a father and he would like to instill financial life lessons to his 10-year-old daugther in a way that she’ll understand.

Financial literacy is very important specially when you’re a father, I am a father and I try to impart that on my daughter and it’s so hard to explain what insurance is about. You’ll explain a savings account to your daughter, boring di ba? So through this fantastic content and partnership of course with FWD and the authors I think we bridged that gap and made it easier to reach the target market, the millennials.”

"Piso Tales" features three stories infused with nuggets of financial education from the three well-known Wattpad authors which are currently getting a widespread attention among Wattpad online readers.
