ABS-CBN Wins 25 Awards Including Best TV Station at 25th Golden Dove Awards

ABS-CBN picked up its eighth Best TV Station Award for 2017 and hauled a total of 25 trophies for its entertainment and news shows, journalists, and stars at the 25th Golden Dove Awards of the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP).

The Kapamilya network also took home another Best TV Station Award (Provincial) for ABS-CBN Cagayan de Oro, one of its regional stations across the country.

Meanwhile, veteran journalist Karen Davila was honored as Best TV Public Service Program Host for "My Puhunan," while Atom Araullo was named Best Public Affairs Host for "Red Alert."

Kapamilya stars also dominated the Golden Dove Awards including Coco Martin who won Best Actor for a Drama Program and Sylvia Sanchez who was named Best Actress for a Drama Program.

"The Greatest Love," one of the top-rating afternoon shows of ABS-CBN that had its finale last April, was also recognized as the Best Drama Program.

"Team YeY!," a children's program aired on ABS-CBN TVplus' YeY! channel during weekdays, picked up its third award for the year as it was named Best TV Children's Program for its "Sound Check" segment.

Comedian Bayani Agbayani also nabbed the Best TV Actor for a Comedy Program for his performance in CineMo's "Funny Ka, Pare Ko," while Angelica Panganiban won Best TV Actress for a Comedy Program for her work in "Banana Sundae."

Other winners include "ASAP" (Best TV Variety Program), "Home Sweetie Home" (Best TV Comedy Program), "Matanglawin" (Best TV Science and Technology Program), "Tapatan ni Tunying's" Trono episode (Best TV Public Affairs Program), "TV Patrol Central Mindanao" (Best TV Newscast-Provincial), ABS-CBN Iloilo's "Derecho" (Best TV Public Affairs Program-Provincial), and ABS-CBN's "Isang Pamilya Tayo Ngayong Pasko" (Best TV Station Promotional Material), "FPJ's Ang Probinsyano Ligtas Tips" (Best Television PSA), "DZMM's Fastbreak" (Best Radio Sports Program), "DZMM Radyo Negosyo" (Best Public Service Program), "DZMM's Pasada Sais Trenta" (Best Public Affairs Program), "DZMM's Dr. Love Hugot" (Best Radio Station Promotional Material), Zhander Cayabyab (Best Field Reporter), "DYAB Radyo Patrol Balita Alas Dose" (Best Radio Newscast-Provincial), "DZMM Radyo Patrol Balita Alas Siyete" and (Best Newscast-Metro Manila).

Aniya, "It's fun playing a gay role again. I said yes to the role because unlike other gay roles, hindi ito 'yung slapstick na may masabi lang na nakakatawang beki. Pumayag ako kasi in-depth 'yung pagtrato sa character namin."

Pinuri rin niya ang direktor ng D' Originals na si Direk Adolf Alix Jr, "Sobrang enjoy kasi I get to work with Direk Adolf again kasi ngayon ko lang siya nakatrabaho sa soap, dati sa film na 'Four Days.' ABS-CBN Earns P9.6B Revenue for 1Q 2017

ABS-CBN Corporation, the country's leading media and entertainment company, reported P9.6 billion consolidated revenue for the first three months of 2017.

ABS-CBN's consumer sales grew by 10% to P4.7 billion while its first quarter airtime revenues were 13% lower compared to the same period last year.

ABS-CBN Chief Financial Officer Aldrin Cerrado said they did not expect a significant growth in earnings during the first quarter given the strong performance of the first quarter of last year.

He added, "First quarter earnings tend to be lower than the subsequent quarters due to the cyclicality of advertising placements."

Meanwhile, Cerrado said they managed to reduce overall costs and expenses during the first quarter.

"We expect costs to go down further as we replace some of the higher cost programs which were carried over from last year," he said.

"We remain confident that we will meet our earnings target of P3.0 billion for the year," added Cerrado.

Based on Kantar Media TV Audience Measurement, ABS-CBN continues to dominate the national TV ratings with an overall audience share of 51.1% during the first quarter. ABS-CBN channels filled the Top 10 highest rating programs. The primetime lead in March 2017 was sustained by its top rating program and long running teleserye – "FPJ's Ang Probinsyano."

Star Cinema also generated close to P600 million from four movies released during the quarter. "My Ex and Whys," which was released last February, brought in about P300 million in ticket sales.

As of end March 2017, total assets and equity stood at P71.6 billion and P31.0 billion, respectively.

Ron Valdueza, ABS-CBN's Group CFO stated: "Sky saw an 11% growth in revenues to P2.3 billion driven by the continued increase in its broadband and DTH subscribers." As of end March 2017, Sky had 672,000 cable subscribers, 161,000 DTH subscribers, and 205,000 broadband subscribers.

"The strong growth in our broadband subscriber base, which has doubled in two years, should continue as we invest in expanding our network," added Valdueza.

Valdueza said he is happy with the progress of the DTT initiative as they ended the last quarter with 2.7 million boxes sold since the service was launched in 2015.

Kidzania, the company's educational theme park, also welcomed over 77,000 visitors since the beginning of the year, while the O Shopping Channel generated P240 million in sales of various products for the first three months of 2017.

PhilRatings has also maintained the highest credit rating for ABS-CBN's outstanding bonds. PhilRatings assigned a PRS Aaa Issue Credit Rating for the P6.0 billion outstanding ABS-CBN bonds with a Stable Outlook.

Jodi Sta. Maria Faces Life-Changing Decision in the Star Cinema Film 'Dear Other Self'

A woman in search of herself is the center of the story of the upcoming Star Cinema film "Dear Other Self," which stars Jodi Sta. Maria, Joseph Marco, and Xian Lim, screening in key countries worldwide via TFC@theMovies starting May 25.

The film's director Veronica Velasco shares that she and co-writer Jinky Laurel took inspiration from the former's teenage daughter. "I noticed that because of the things they read on the internet, they become aware of different places around the world and they want to travel there", she recalls. "These days, there is a concept of yolo or you only live once where some feel the need to leave everything behind and travel the world. I was thinking, 'what if that is the life she chose', and thus 'Dear Other Self' was born."

"Dear Other Self" tells the story of Becky (Sta. Maria), the breadwinner of the family who faces a life-changing decision in her life one day. One has her starting her day right, nailing a presentation, and getting promoted. The other has her waking up on the wrong side of the bed, flunking a presentation, and getting fired.

Sta. Maria believes that this situation is something relatable for many people. "I think we all, at one point of our lives, think of things we want to do but couldn't because of our obligations. So, I think all of us face that one critical decision in our lives that could change everything", she explains.

"Dear Other Self" is the first movie where Sta. Maria is teams up with Marco and Lim. The two Kapamilya actors are grateful to be paired with Sta. Maria, who they describe as someone easy to work with.

"Hindi ko naramdaman 'yong pressure," Marco says about Sta. Maria. "When you work with Jodi, she makes you feel comfortable. She is very nice. I love working with her", the actor ends.

Marco and Lim will give life to the characters of Chris (Marco) and Henry (Lim). Chris is the guy-next-door who have everything planned out for his life. Meantime, Henry is the happy-go-lucky guy who lives life one day at a time. They will be the men that Becky meets in the two different scenarios in her life.

The two leading men can relate to their respective characters – Chris wants everything in his life planned, while Henry follows what his heart desires.

Although Lim believes in following what one's heart desires, he reminds himself that it is equally important to gauge the consequences of your actions.

"Deep inside, responsibilities seem daunting to us. You decide to do what you want, you decide to live life to the fullest, but you also have to slow down. You also have to think of the consequences because everything has a trade-off. Life is a trade-off," he explains.

Sta. Maria also encouraged everyone not to give up on their dreams, even if there will be delays. This is something that the Kapamilya actress could relate with it seemed because success came to her after some years. She admits, she still dreams of getting a degree in medicine.

"I believe if God puts a dream in our hearts, it is with an intent to fulfill it and we just have to wait for the right time," she says. "Sometimes, it doesn't happen right away but later in life, it will be realized", Sta. Maria ends.

Also part of the cast are Carla Martinez, Bodjie Pascua, Anna Luna, and Paul Salas.

Zaf Efron Channels Ryan Lochte in Sec Comedy 'Baywatch' Movie

Nurturing an impressive body of work that encompasses both film and television, Zac Efron has proven to be one of Hollywood's most sought-after talents.

This season, Efron co-stars opposite Dwayne Johnson in Paramount Pictures' Baywatch, the highly-anticipated comedy based off the popular '90s TV show.

In Philippine cinemas starting May 31, Baywatch follows devoted lifeguard Mitch Buchannon (Johnson) as he butts heads with Matt Brody (Efron), a brash new recruit. Together, they uncover a local criminal plot that threatens the future of the Bay.

From the beginning, Baywatch had been envisioned as a buddy comedy, and the producers knew they'd need an actor who could hold his own against Johnson's larger than life on-screen alter ego. They found a perfect foil in Efron, who is quickly becoming a go-to actor for 'R' rated comedies, having recently added Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates (2016) and Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising (2016) to his already impressive resume.

"I wasn't allowed to watch Baywatch growing up," Efron laments. "But I do remember sneaking it, late at night, after Howard Stern on a crappy old TV with a dial. One time, I was channel flipping and came across this awesome show full of boats and explosions and I just thought the whole thing was amazing. When the show was over, I realized it was Baywatch, and I was like, 'Holy cow. That was amazing.'"

"Zac's incredibly handsome, charming and funny," Johnson says of his co-star. "He's got this great boyish quality at times, and I love him like a brother. He's one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet, so it's that much more fun to have him play a cocky asshole and mix it up with him."

Efron plays Matt Brody, a bad boy Olympic swimmer and two time gold medalist who arrives in Emerald Bay expecting a spot on Mitch's highly competitive, handpicked Baywatch team.

"Brody throws a wrench in things," Johnson explains. "We've got this team that's gelling, but he's this hotshot coming off the Olympics, who thinks he can just join the team without being trained properly."

"At the Olympics, Brody won his solo events, but messed up the team relay because he got drunk the night before," says Efron. "He did some illegal stuff, and joining Baywatch is part of his parole."

"We drew some inspiration from Ryan Lochte in our approach to Brody, which Zac responded to immediately," director Seth Gordon recalls. "The character was written before the real Lochte got himself into trouble, which ended up being unexpectedly prescient."

"The world has had to live without Baywatch for such a long time, so I couldn't be more excited to be bringing it back," says Efron enthusiastically. "We're building on one of the greatest TV shows of all time, and Dwayne, Ilfenesh, Jon, Alexandra, Kelly and Priyanka are all so amazing and talented. It's going to be hilarious and action-packed. I'm really stoked about it."

Aside from the remarkable dual front camera, the V5s' rear camera also takes beautiful photos at 13 megapixels and an f2.2 aperture, with an ultra-high-definition mode that can render stunning images of up to 52 megapixels.

NCCA Lauds ABS-CBN, ANC, DZMM, and Kapamilya Stars for Showcasing PH Culture

ABS-CBN, ANC, and DZMM were honored by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) for championing the country's rich culture and artistic traditions on Philippine television and radio during the agency's 30th Founding Anniversary Celebration last May 17 at Sofitel Manila.

According to the NCCA, ABS-CBN, ANC, and DZMM are media partners that consistently display "steadfast support to the Commission through the promotion of programs, projects, and activities that showcase the diversity and uniqueness of our culture and artistic traditions in its TV and radio shows and programs."

One such instance is the airing of the documentary series "Dayaw," a project of Sen. Loren Legarda and the NCCA, on ANC, the ABS-CBN News Channel.

Now on its third season, "Dayaw" is a six-part, 30-minute weekly show that aims to promote appreciation and preservation of traditional Filipino arts and culture hosted by Sen. Legarda, an advocate of IP rights.

ABS-CBN's commitment to uphold the promotion of the country's cultural heritage is also demonstrated in its effort to cover and produce news stories on NCCA's "Ani ng Dangal," an annual event that recognizes Filipino artists who have garnered honors in international award-giving bodies and other accolades in the past year; and on NCCA's celebration of the National Heritage Month, which aims to generate awareness, respect, and love for the legacy of Filipino cultural history.

Through the years, NCCA infomercials were also staunchly supported by the Kapamilya network by airing it on television and radio to reach more Filipinos, including NCCA led projects like the Philippine Arts Festival and the National Arts Month, among others.

Meanwhile, Kapamilya stars were also recognized for the important role they play as celebrity ambassadors in helping realize NCCA's goals.

Among the recognized stars include Piolo Pascual (Culture Ambassador), Sarah Geronimo (Music Ambassador), Ogie Alcasid (Heritage Ambassador/ASEAN Ambassador), Boy Abunda (Arts Ambassador), Enchong Dee (Heritage Ambassador), and Jericho Rosales (Heritage Ambassador).

NCCA is the government agency that is responsible in preserving, promoting, and protecting Filipino culture and the arts. For its 30th year, the NCCA is celebrating its founding anniversary with the theme, "Lingkod NCCA: Marangal. Malikhain. Mapagbago. Filipino!."

(Contest) Join "Selfie For Biodiversity And Sustainable Tourism" and Win an All-Expense Paid Trip Around PH

In commemoration of the International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB) on May 22, the Biodiversity Management Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR-BMB), together with the Deutsche Gesellschaftfür Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH will mount “Selfie for Biodiversity and Sustainable Tourism 2017”, a photo competition running from May 3 to May 15.

IDBD is an international event mandated by the United Nations as part of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) of 1993, to create global awareness on biodiversity, its impact on the ecosystem, and why everyone should be involved in its protection.

CONTEST MECHANICS

With theme “Biodiversity and Sustainable Tourism”, the photo contest will revolve around scenes showing efforts to sustain biodiversity and its connection  to sustainable tourism. Photos may highlight efforts in protecting biodiversity, action shots that showcase commitment by tourism groups to protect biodiversity, eco-tours, forest, water and wildlife protection and other topics related to the theme. Subjects must be on Philippine biodiversity and include unique plants and/or animals, whether on land, in fresh water, in the ocean, or special places (wildlife habitats, protected areas, caves, lakes, or rivers).

Entries must include a short description with the subject of the photo (as a title); participants’ name, age and the hashtag #selfieforbiodiversity2017; and short narrative (about 100 words) on what biodiversity means to the person, how Filipinos can help conserve the Philippines’ rich biodiversity, how the action can inspire others, and a behind-the-scenes story on how the photo was taken.  Photos must be taken over the past year, or from the close of the Selfie for Biodiversity contest event in May 2016. Previous entries are disqualified. 

Submission of entries is from May 3, 2017 to noon of May 15, 2017 only.

The contest is open to all photography lovers living in the Philippines, from 13 years old and above.
