Liza Soberano Bids “Darna” Goodbye

A teary-eyed Liza Soberano announced on Thursday that she has withdrawn from the titular role of Pinay Superheroine "Darna" citing an injury as the reason behind her decision to quit the role.

According to Liza, she fractured the bones of her right finger in an accident on the set of the now-defunct fantaserye "Bagani" in August of last year. While she has undergone two surgeries to address the fracture, Liza is still unable to move her finger as normally as the others, given that its joint was also damaged.

Liza is set to undergo a third surgery to remove the metal plates that had been inserted to heal the fracture, saying she is hopeful that she can regain the full function her finger through time and more therapy sessions.

ABS-CBN and Star Cinema, in a statement, said they "understand Liza's condition, respect her decision, and wish her well on her recovery." The film outfit also clarified that the "Darna" movie will push through, and that it has started the selection process for a new actress.
