ABS-CBN and Xeleb Launch "FPJ's Ang Probinsyano" Mobile Game

ABS-CBN and Xeleb Technologies Inc. have forged partnership last Tuesday (July 18) and officially launched the "FPJ's Ang Probinsyano" mobile game, a runner type game app that allows users to experience the life of Cardo Dalisay (Coco Martin), who fights crimes and saves lives in the top-rating Kapamilya series.

Based on ABS-CBN's top-rating primetime series "FPJ's Ang Probinsyano," the mobile game lets users play as the series' protagonist Cardo and patrol the streets of Metro Manila, apprehend snatchers, and save children. Players can also win special prizes along the way while dodging several obstacles, adding more action and thrill to users' experience.

Like the successful series, the mobile game is also an instant hit among gamers with over 50,000 downloads within the first five minutes of its launch last May and is now approaching one million downloads.

"We are very happy that we get to promote the show's advocacy through a platform that appeals especially to children. With this partnership, we hope to provide not only quality entertainment but also highlight valuable lessons through Kapamilya teleserye driven apps," said Deo Endrinal, head of Dreamscape Entertainment.

"ABS-CBN has the intellectual property. We have the technology. It's a powerful combination," said Xeleb Chairman and CEO Raymond Racaza. "'FPJ's Ang Probinsyano' is just first in the rich pipeline of games that are coming soon."

Having aired for almost two years now, "FPJ's Ang Probinsyano," has received praises for teaching viewers about the consequences of crimes and imparting life lessons about family and patriotism. It revolves around the life and struggle of Cardo, who recently went back to service as a member of the Philippine National Police's (PNP) Special Action Force (SAF) to protect innocent lives from danger after the tragic death of his son.

The program has also remained unbeatable nationwide since it started airing last September 2015, based on data from Kantar Media covering urban and rural homes. Aside from avid viewers, "FPJ's Ang Probinsyano" has also gained recognition from the House of the Representatives and different government officials such as the Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Mike Sueno and PNP chief Ronald De Rosa, who both commended the series for promoting crime awareness and prevention among audiences.

Several award-giving bodies have also recognized the show, including Gawad Tanglaw, Anak TV Awards, PMPC Star Awards, and recently, the 48th Box Office Entertainment Awards where it bagged eight awards, setting a record in the awards show.

Francis Kong's Latest Book "Leadership That Matters" Out Now on Bookstores Nationwide

Inspirational speaker and author Francis Kong highlights some of the most practical and relevant leadership learnings he holds in high regard in “Leadership That Matters,” his most awaited new book published by ABS-CBN Publishing.

A few days before its official launch at The Philippine Readers and Writers Festival in Raffles Makati, Kong’s latest manual already took the third spot in National Book Store’s bestseller list for the month of August.

“Leadership That Matters” is a compilation of the business guru’s motivational articles on self-improvement and developing the right character and discipline to become a good leader. Despite his numerous talks and books in the past, the author seeks to continue sharing his latest inspiration to lead people in different business enterprises.

Kong wrote, “I want to carry the awesome responsibility of sharing critical ideas that are both relevant and effective in equipping leaders with the knowledge to do better and become better. I hope that this book is a tool they can use for their own leadership journey.”

The author also cited that it’s not enough to learn about management principles. The ability to lead has to be complemented with the openness for constant improvement.

Throughout the years, from one training after another, the lessons, challenges, and wisdom continue to flow, leaving me each time with the humbling realization that my expertise on ‘leadership issues’ is so little, short, and limited. There could never be a fixed menu for leadership principles that one can teach, much less adopt for any given situation,” shared the modest speaker.

Last year, the corporate trainer delivered a total of 336 speaking engagements and training sessions here and abroad. Through his talks, he has captured not only the corporate world but also millennials and inspired them to become better leaders by showing them the path to success.

Each person has his or her own leadership journey and no story is ever the same,” Kong alluded. He hopes that by sharing his motivational stories in the manual, readers will be moved to bravely face their own challenges.

“Leadership That Matters” is the latest addition to ABS-CBN Publishing’s successful line of bestselling consumer books. It is available at National Book Store outlets nationwide for P395.

14th Gawad Geny Lopez Jr. Bayaning Pilipino Awards Honors 7 Modern-Day Heroes and Organizations

A social worker who has been helping an indigenous community for three decades.
A young health worker who continues to help others even when he himself is in need.
An organization of professionals who try to break the stigma of a skin disease.
A migrant Filipino who helps not only his fellow citizens in the U.S. but also in the homeland and beyond borders.
A young Filipina who bravely addresses the issue of mental illness.
A Filipina who helps her countrymen beyond their usual needs, through cultural integration.
An overseas Filipino worker who risks his life just to help his fellowmen.

These Filipinos are the new breed of heroes honored in the recently concluded 14th Gawad Geny Lopez Jr. Bayaning Pilipino Awards (Bayaning Pilipino Awards) at the Dolphy Theater within the ABS-CBN headquarters in the heart of Quezon City.

In the tradition of honoring unsung heroes which ABS-CBN Corporation Chairman Emeritus Eugenio “Geny” Lopez Jr. inspired and which ABS-CBN and Ugat Foundation started in 1995, ABS-CBN Corporation Chairman and ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation, Inc. Chairman Emeritus Eugenio “Gabby” Lopez III led the celebration of the lives of these ordinary Filipinos who have performed what the award-giving body venerates as ordinary folks performing extraordinary acts.

Lopez said the Bayaning Pilipino awards honored these Filipinos for their small acts of kindness, worthy of a tribute that is larger than life.  He emphasized: “Heroism can mean a lot of things.  Not all heroes have grand titles nor do they enjoy vast sources at their disposal. What true heroes possess is their capacity to go above and beyond their limits and own flaws, passionate in what they can to improve the human condition”.

The 2017 winners are set apart by different triggers for their causes but are united by their selfless love for fellowmen, expecting nothing in return: Bayaning Pilipino Fructosa Alma “Neneng” Olivo of Maa, Davao who has been helping the Badjao community for three decades; Bayaning Kabataang Pilipino John Mark Odani of Maitum, Saranggani who has been extending his expertise to the women and children of the T’boli tribe; and Bayaning Samahang Pilipino Psoriasis Philippines Online Community, Inc. (PsorPhil) of Mandaluyong City which has been aiding people stricken with the skin disease.  For the Global Bayaning Pilipino Awards, hailed as Bayaning Pilipino sa Qatar was Noli Perez for helping his kababayans even when government policy disallows him to, and in South Korea was Katherine Corteza of the Itaewon Village and who has been helping other females via Philippine Women’s Club; Bayaning Samahang Pilipino – North America Building Lives for A Better Future (BLBF) of San Diego, U.S. for helping the poor communities in San Diego, California and even in Pozorrubio, Pangasinan and Mexico; and Bayaning Kabataang Pilipino – North America Loizza Aquino of Winnipeg, Canada who established Peace of Mind 204 to raise awareness on mental health.

UGAT Foundation Project Director Fr. Nilo Tanalega, S.J. said the Bayaning Pilipino awards is warranted as much as it is timely. (The conferment of the Bayaning Pilipino Awards is an alternative to the reality we face.  Today, we honor modern day heroes.  They do not reap evil and violence but instead foster inclusivity and caring for others without asking for anything in return).

A special citation was also given to Darlito Palermo of Tagum City, Davao del Norte for being an able and inspiring leader to his fellow PWDs (People with Disabilities). The awarding ceremony was hosted by Julius Babao, Robi Domingo, Judy Ann Santos – Agoncillo plus Angel Locsin.  Paying tribute were Soul Supreme KZ Tandingan and hit-maker Iñigo Pascual; Tawag ng Tanghalan sa “It’s Showtime’s” Froilan Canlas; young talents Ylonah Garcia and JK Labajo; and OPM icon Ogie Alcasid.

Witness the stories of these 14th Gawad Geny Lopez Jr. Bayaning Pilipino winners once again via TFC’s Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) and online (www.TFC.tv) platforms (under Specials) in key countries worldwide.  Connect with fellow global Filipinos and visit the official Facebook page in your area and follow KapamilyaTFC @IG and Twitter.

Jonas Gaffud, the trainer who has produced a Miss World, a Miss International, and a Miss Universe for the Philippines, shares the secrets to winning beauty pageants and spills inside stories of the most celebrated beauty royalties in recent years in his first book under ABS-CBN Publishing, Inc. entitled "The Crown: Your Essential Guide to Becoming a Beauty Queen."

With more than 30 certified beauty titlists under his belt, Jonas is undeniably the country's premier beauty queen maker. Known as Mama J in the industry, his list of mentees includes winners in international beauty contests such as Miss World 2013 Megan Young, Miss International 2016 Kylie Versoza, and Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach who all joined their trainer in "The Crown" book cover.

Together with his beauty pageant training squad, Aces & Queens, the new author has become a key player in the Philippines' pageantry success for 16 years now.

"It's all about Aces & Queens' journey, how we trained beautiful ladies all these years (and their stories as well), how we created our group, and how we evolved," shared Jonas on what the book is all about.

"The Crown" will prove essential to both pageant aspirants and keen spectators, with its discussions on competitions' crucial matters such as dealing with the height problem, question and answer tricks, and sashaying in heels 101. It also provides the Aces and Queens checklist and tons of tips on preparing for the big event.

Jonas also opened up about his biggest triumphs in his book. He said, "training beauty queens gave me front row, and most recently, mosh pit, to the exhilarating world of pageants. Seeing the ladies we trained showcase their unique beauty, walk and personality on stage never fails to give me a natural high. A definite milestone in my career is being able to help make Miss Universe happen in the Philippines."

The handy manual provides inspiration from the stories of his group's roster of beauty queens who all remained gracious through victory and defeat. The author also revealed other interesting details like his first-ever buena mano candidate, his Aces & Queens team members and their training forte, and his learnings when pageants wrap up.

"The best and most fulfilling part of all is being vessels for these young girls to be better individuals, thinking individuals, who reach their dreams and do something that make our nation proud," wrote the beauty queen trainer who also heads Mercator Artist and Model Management.

Jonas launched the book together with the other Aces & Queens pillars Arnold "Mama Ruffa" Mercado and Nad Bronce, and their beauty queen alumni Pia, Miss Universe 2010 4th runner-up Venus Raj, actor Daniel Matsunaga, model Marc Nash, and other special guests at a ceremony held in Marco Polo Ortigas Manila.

Pia shared her excitement about the beauty queen manual. She said, "the book gives me a lot of flashbacks when I was just starting. They (Aces & Queens) found potential in me at a time when I didn't see it yet."

"The Crown: Your Essential Guide to Becoming a Beauty Queen" will soon be available in leading newsstands and bookstores nationwide for only P295.

Richard Gutierrez Slaps by BIR with Multiple Tax Evasion-Related Cases

Richard Gutierrez is facing yet another tax-related case after the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) filed new charges against him for allegedly submitting fake documents in connection with his ongoing tax evasion case.

The new complaint charges Richard of one count of knowingly using/submitting fake or falsified annual income tax return (ITR) for taxable year 2012; six counts of knowingly using/submitting fake or falsified quarterly value-added tax (VAT) returns for the second, third, and fourth quarters of 2012; two counts of knowingly using/submitting perjured affidavits during the preliminary investigation of his tax case; and four counts of attempting to make it appear he or another has filed his annual ITR and quarterly VAT returns.

The tax case involves Richard’s R Gutz Production, which produces and markets films and TV shows.

The "La Luna Sangre" star submitted the subject documents to the DOJ on July 18, 2017, with official receipt stamps from the BIR Revenue District Office No. 42-San Juan City. However, the receiving officer appearing in the stamps, Renato Agana, has denied receiving of the returns.

There is a stamp ‘received' in the documents; we traced that there’s a name there, the person who allegedly received it (returns) has denied receiving that. It’s not his signature there, and the stamp that he used isn’t the stamp that is used in that office… all that point that these documents submitted are fake,” said BIR Assistant Commissioner James Roldan.

The BIR added: “Gutierrez used fake and falsified tax returns to secure the dismissal of the tax evasion case against R Gutz Production Corporation,” and resorted to the “scheme” to evade payment of the required taxes.

In its tax case against the actor, the BIR alleged he underdeclared R Gutz’s income for 2012 by P39.51 million.

The BIR placed Richards’s income tax liability at P27.45 million, and his VAT liabilities at P11.12 million, or a total of P38.57 million in tax delinquencies.

The actor’s lawyer, Marie Glen Garduque, said they have yet to receive a copy of the new complaint.
As far as Richard is concerned said documents have the original stamped received from the BIR. At any rate, Richard will just answer as soon as he receives the copy of the complaint,” Garduque said.

UKG Celebrates 10th Anniversay with "NanayCon" this August 18 in Taguig

ABS-CBN’s award-winning morning program “Umagang Kay Ganda” (UKG) is going all-out for mothers on its 10th anniversary with a lineup of offerings for the nation’s homemakers including a “Nanay Convention,” a “Nanay Manual,” and a new segment in the show featuring smart and talented moms called “Nanay Kong Ganda,” which will debut in October.

The country’s well-loved morning show kicked-off its “Nanay Convention” series in Pampanga last July 3 and is now headed to Taguig City this Friday (August 18) to gather mommies for a day filled with new knowledge and tips on how to care for and protect one’s family.

In the previous convention, anchor Gretchen Ho started it off with a simple workout to energize the crowd, followed by cooking demos with Chef Tatung and Winnie Cordero, a fashion and beauty talk with Renee Salud and Amy Perez, and a disaster preparedness seminar led by Atom Araullo,  Anthony Taberna, and Jorge Cariño. Ariel Ureta also brought the popular “Di Bati” segment of the show, where the anchors exchange views on a common issue in families or communities. Participants also enjoyed free haircut, massage, and facials, plus fun games and raffle prizes courtesy of the program’s sponsors and partner organizations.

“UKG” also launched during the convention the “Nanay Manual,” a free booklet containing recipes, kitchen hacks, and home safety and management tips that the program created with the help of ABS-CBN Publishing, Inc.

The program is also set to introduce a search for outstanding mothers called “Nanay Kong Kay Ganda,” a follow-up to its successful 2016 segment “Gwapulis,” which showcased the wit, good looks, and talent of Filipino policemen. “UKG” will be on the lookout for possible contestants during the different legs of the its “Nanay Convention.”

Through these activities, the decade-long morning show hopes to further help and support mothers, which are the program’s partners in making each morning bright and happy for Filipino families.

As for the program’s anchors, “UKG” has already become a home for them too, with their fellow anchors and the show’s staff and crew as their family.

Waking up for ‘Umagang Kay Ganda’ gives us happiness in itself. We are all family here. Even if we aren’t live on air yet, we already carry positive vibes which translates to our work. The positive energy is really inspiring and it sets the mood for our entire day,” shared Anthony, who has been on the show for a long time.

Amy also attested to the tight bond among the show’s anchors, who are able to share with each other their personal triumphs and problems. “All of us are going through something in our lives but since we are in a morning show, we have to always show positivity to our viewers. So it’s good that during commercial breaks we also get to check on each other,” she said.

While one of the newer hosts in the show, Jorge shared his amazement at how easy it has been to get along with everyone. “Here you bump into someone and you feel like you know each other very well, like childhood friends. That was the kind of treatment they gave me…People would mistake us as friends who have known each other for a long time. It’s magical for me,” he explained.

Atom, meanwhile, also expressed how he remains excited to do the show, no matter how hard it is to wake up very early. “It’s a nice feeling to start the day early because you feel that there’s still a lot you can do in the day. You also get to be a part of other people’s morning. So, it’s kind of a win-win situation.”

Together with the program’s other hosts like Long Mejia, K Brosas, Marlo Mortel, Dominique Roque, and Tina Marasigan, the show is committed to be of service to millions of Filipinos for decades to come.

Apart from consistently leading the early morning timeslot based on data from Kantar Media, “UKG” has also received many awards in the past 10 years, including “Best Morning Show” from UPLB Gandingan Awards and the 2nd Golden Laurel Awards of LPU Batangas in 2017.

James Corden Lends Voice to Hi-5 in "The Emoji Movie"

British comedian James Corden (Into the Woods) lends his voice to Hi-5, an open-face palm Emoji ready to give you a Hi-5 at any time, in Sony Pictures Animation's new comedy The Emoji Movie.

His favorite catchphrase? "Hi-Five!"

In the film, Hi-5's a big ham, brimming over with exuberant confidence. He used to be a Favorite, a highly respected celebrity. But recently Hi-5 has been usurped by a new Favorite… Fist Bump Emoji. Hi-5 can't stand the rejection and just wants to be popular again. But his adventure with Gene – an Emoji which has EVERY expression instead of just one - makes Hi-5 realize that it's more important to have one true friend than it is to be popular.

"Hi-5 is a fading rock star who wants to get back on top," says director-writer Tony Leondis. "He hopes that by going on this journey with Gene he can be popular again. What he learns along the way is that having one real friend is more important than having ten thousand likes."

James Corden gave the filmmakers a hand in bringing the character to life. "He's such a talent. A brilliant actor and writer. When I saw the play 'One Man, Two Guvnors,' I was blown away and really wanted to work with him someday," Leondis says. "Hi-5 is the wild card – you never know what he's going to do or say. He's always throwing curveballs into the equation. And no one is better at that than James."

"Hi-5 used to be one of the favorites, but as time has gone by, Alex has forgotten about Hi-5, and he started using Fist Bump," says Corden. "He feels like he's been forgotten, and he's convinced that if Alex could just see him again on the Favorites board, Alex would remember how great Hi-5 is and start using him again."

Corden was drawn to the story and the way it created a hidden world behind the popular icons. "You can punctuate any moment with a great emoji," he says. "In the film these are characters with spirits, and souls, and hearts, and minds with something very, very real at stake for all of them."

"I thought it sounded quite charming – these things that you use in your life all the time have a personality, something to lose, and real friendships," concludes Corden. "That felt very fun to me."

Opening across the Philippines on August 23, The Emoji Movie is distributed by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International.
