Zanjoe Marudo Nominated For Best Actor at 45th International Emmy Awards

Kapamilya actor and Star Magic artist Zanjoe Marudo is the only Asian artist nominated in the Best Performance by an Actor category in the 45th International Emmy Awards.

The model turned actor is competing against actors Julio Andrade (Brazil), Kenneth Branagh (United Kingdom), and Kad Merad (France) in the category.

This recognition from the iEmmys is a personal milestone for me as an actor and as a Filipino. This is a dream come true. I thank the jurors, the show “MMK,” ABS-CBN and Star Magic,” said Zanjoe.

Zanjoe is nominated for his exceptional portrayal of a father with paranoid schizophrenia in the “Anino” episode of ABS-CBN’s weekend drama anthology “MMK” (“Remembering”). This real life story, brought to life by Zanjoe, is among the many unique stories that have given Filipino viewers inspiration, hope, and life lessons in the 25 years that “MMK” has been on air.

Dubbed as the longest drama anthology in Asia, “MMK” is hosted by actress and ABS-CBN’s chief content officer Charo Santos-Concio, who was also a former gala chair for the International Emmy Awards back in 2015.

Zanjoe is among the 44 nominees across 11 categories and 18 countries in this year’s awards.

Last year, fellow Star Magic artist Jodi Sta. Maria also got an international Emmy nomination in the Best Performance by an Actress category for her portrayal as Amor Powers in the hit drama “Pangako Sa’Yo.” Primetime series “Bridges of Love,” meanwhile, was nominated in the Best Telenovela category.

ABS-CBN previously scored International Emmy® Awards nominations for “Precious Hearts Romances Presents: Impostor” (Best Telenovela) in 2011, “Dahil May Isang Ikaw” (Best Telenovela) and Sid Lucero in “Dahil May Isang Ikaw” (Best Actor) in 2010, and “Kahit Isang Saglit” (Best Telenovela) and Angel Locsin in “Lobo” (Best Actress) in 2009.

This year’s winners will be announced at a black-tie ceremony to be held November 20 at the Hilton New York Hotel. The International Emmy® Awards are given by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

Boy Abunda's 100+ Abundable Thoughts to Ponder Compiled in Latest Book "It’s Like This"

Multi-awarded host Boy Abunda pens a new book to inspire readers with his nuggets of wisdom, quotes and life-affirming essays in “It’s Like This: 100+ Abundable Thoughts that will make you think and rethink what you’ve always thought about your life” by ABS-CBN Publishing.

The new manual highlights important lessons from Asia’s King of Talk as he shares his life filled with love and abundance, while recalling friends, experiences and changes that brought him to where he is now.

“It’s Like This” covers some of the author’s unforgettable encounters as a young boy raised in Borongan, Eastern Samar, as a student inside the seminary, as a probinsyano who went to study at Ateneo, and as a fledging actor in theater.

The “Tonight With Boy Abunda” host also shared bits of insights on how he faced heartbreaking moments in his life, such as the death of his father. He wrote, “when Tatay died, I was forced to live.”

Boy’s latest offering will not be complete without disclosing inspiration he got from his mother who he calls “the center of my universe.”

The book likewise includes his story on how he finally got an offer to be on television and the learnings he discovered as a talent manager. He penned, “when a star becomes the boss, what does the talent manager do? The dynamics between talent and celebrity changes. New rules are invented.”

Some of the lessons readers will pick up from the book are:

·        Laugh and live with your successes and failures, knowing that all are fleeting.
·        Everything and everyone has a dark side, embrace it.
·        Gay love is equal to all forms of human love.
·        Love your mother, return phone calls, fight only when you need to, read books and the best spa is at the feet of God.
·        Always play for the crowd, and remember that they won’t always be there.

“It’s Like This: 100+ Abundable Thoughts that will make you think and rethink what you’ve always thought about your life” is now available in National Book Store and Powerbooks for only P275.

Noven shared his elation on the latest break that came his way. He said, “I’m overwhelmed that from the many people who dreamed, I was given this opportunity to have my own album. I am very thankful for all the blessings.”

With the passions of Pinoys in mind, Noven offers a debut album that features a timeless and distinct Pinoy sound and brings together the compositions of some of the industry’s best songwriters such as Vehnee Saturno, Jungee Marcelo, Jonathan Manalo, and Rey Valera.

There are inspirational songs, there is a prayer, there are songs for the brokenhearted, for those who are in love, and for those who had to leave their family to give them a better future. All the songs are dedicated to them,” he shared.

His carrier single, “Tumahan Ka Na” composed by Vehnee, has dominated the MOR 101.9 charts for ten weeks now, peaking at number one.

Fresh from the success of “Tumahan Ka Na,” the former farmer from Negros Occidental also released on September 28 his second single entitled “Nais Kong Ibalik” composed by Jonathan on September 28.

Other tracks to expect in the album are “Problemang Puso” composed by Vehnee Saturno, “Lupa” by Charo Unite and Ernie Dela PeƱa, “Sino Ako” by Fr. Joe Casteneda, “Kung Kailangan Mo Ako” (jukebox version) from Rey Valera, and “Ako’s Sayo” by Jungee Marcelo.

ABS-CBN, the first and true home of Asianovelas, heats up afternoon viewing as it tells the tale of two women who will fight for a man who loves both of them at different circumstances in “My Dearest Intruder,” premiering this Monday (September 25).

Will Sharlene be able to win Ivan back? Does Ivan still has feelings for Sharlene? How will Ria protect her marriage with Ivan?

Based on data from Kantar Media, the Kapamilya network recorded an average audience share of 46% in both rural and urban homes, or 13 points higher versus GMA’s 33%.

“FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” (38.6%) still led the list of most watched programs in August, thrilling more viewers as Cardo (Coco Martin) finally infiltrated the rebel group Pulang Araw.

ABS-CBN’s newest talent-variety-talk show “Little Big Shots” (35.9%), on the other hand, instantly impressed viewers as it showcased the wit, charm, and talent of kids.

KathNiel-starrer “La Luna Sangre” (33.7%) was also a big hit among viewers as Malia (Kathryn Bernardo) and Tristan (Daniel Padilla) continue to fulfill their mission of ending the leader of evil vampires Supremo (Richard Gutierrez).

Kapamilya network’s flagship newscast “TV Patrol,” meanwhile, remained as the most preferred news program in the country in August, hitting 32.5% and beating rival program “24 Oras” (19.4%).

“Wansapanataym” (28.1%) gave viewers a magical treat every Sunday and highlighted lessons of love, sacrifice, and bravery to Pinoy kids through Super Ving (Awra Briguela). “MMK” (27.4%) also gave inspiration to audiences nationwide with the real-life stories of letter senders, individuals who weathered different struggles.

Jennifer Lawrence Runs Away with Title Role of Psychological Thriller “mother!”

Oscar Best Actress winner Jennifer Lawrence adds a home invasion horror tale to her repertoire with Paramount Pictures' psychological thriller m o t h e r ! in Philippine cinemas September 20.

Directed by Academy Award-nominee Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan), the film revolves around Mother (Lawrence) and Him (Javier Bardem) who live in a seemingly idyllic existence in a secluded paradise. But the couple’s relationship is tested when man (Ed Harris) and woman (Michelle Pfeiffer) arrive at their home uninvited. Answering that knock disrupts their tranquil existence and as more and more guests arrive, mother is forced to revisit everything she knows about love, devotion and sacrifice.

One of the greatest things that can happen to you as an artist is to be a part of a movie that starts conversation because it’s an original idea, completely unique,” says Lawrence of m o t h e r !. “Even though we’re shooting things that are eerie, the allegory is so much bigger. It’s what it all means.

There’s a million different facets to this movie that certain people are going to relate to, be scared of, intrigued by,” continues Lawrence. She describes the lure of playing mother, the adoring wife and muse to Javier Bardem’s enigmatic poet: “Falling in love is scary. Being vulnerable? Terrifying. Not letting yourself be vulnerable? Also, terrifying.

It’s one thing to make something lukewarm,” says Lawrence. “It’s another to make something scalding hot. This? It’s a Roman candle. An explosion. A riot of a movie. An expression. There’s definitely a moment in this movie where some will say, ‘Darren, you’re taking this too far’ and storm out of the theater. But I wouldn’t have been there if I hadn’t already thrown the script across my hotel room in New York and thought this guy is crazy. But he has to take it all the way. I think he was right to not shy back and be afraid.”

As for that Roman candle, expect an unsettling metaphoric ride that will shock and jar audiences. Lawrence’s dark summation: “A creator always needs a muse. As long as the universe is expanding, men will be using women.”

Rated R-16 Without Cuts by the MTRCB, m o t h e r ! is distributed in the Philippines by United International Pictures through Columbia Pictures.

Horror Thriller "IT" A Certified Monster Hit in the Philippines, Rakes P50.18-M on its Opening Weekend

New Line Cinema’s IT, the critically lauded big-screen adaptation of Stephen King’s perennial best seller, floated to the top of the Philippine box office on its opening weekend, earning P50.18-million across 213 cinemas, and still climbing.

Directed by Andy Muschietti (Mama), the much-anticipated horror thriller has surpassed the opening figures of recent horror blockbusters, The Conjuring (P39-M) and Lights Out (P36.7-M).

In making the announcement, Francis Soliven, General Manager, Warner Bros. Philippines, said, “IT is the film that everyone is talking about, whether fans of the genre or not, driving moviegoers across the country to brave the cinema for their own encounter with Pennywise. We couldn’t be more thrilled with the results, and congratulate New Line Cinema, director Andy Muschietti and his phenomenal cast and crew on this fantastic opening.”

New Line Cinema’s horror thriller IT tells the story of seven young outcasts growing up in the township of Derry, Maine, who call themselves the Losers’ Club. Each of them has been ostracized for one reason or another; each has a target on their back from the local pack of bullies…and all have seen their inner fears come to life in the form of an ancient shapeshifting predator they can only call It.

For as long as their town has existed, Derry has been the entity’s hunting ground, emerging from the sewers every 27 years to feed on the terrors of its chosen prey: Derry’s children. Banding together over one horrifying and exhilarating summer, the Losers form a close bond to help them overcome their own fears and stop a killing cycle that began on a rainy day, with a small boy chasing a paper boat as it swept down a storm drain…and into the hands of Pennywise the Clown.

Directed by Andy Muschietti, IT is based on the Stephen King novel of the same name, which has been terrifying readers for decades. First published in 1986, IT became an instant classic. It continues to be counted among the best and most influential works of the undisputed literary master of horror, inspiring numerous film and television projects in the years that have followed.

The film stars Bill SkarsgĆ„rd (Allegiant) as the story’s central villain, Pennywise. An ensemble of young actors also star in the film, including Jaeden Lieberher (Midnight Special), Jeremy Ray Taylor (Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip), Sophia Lillis (37), Finn Wolfhard (Netflix’s Stranger Things), Wyatt Oleff (Guardians of the Galaxy), Chosen Jacobs (upcoming Cops and Robbers), Jack Dylan Grazer (Tales of Halloween), Nicholas Hamilton (Captain Fantastic) and Jackson Robert Scott, making his film debut.

Muschietti directed IT from a screenplay by Chase Palmer & Cary Fukunaga and Gary Dauberman, based on the novel by King. Roy Lee, Dan Lin, Seth Grahame-Smith, David Katzenberg and Barbara Muschietti produced the film, with Dave Neustadter, Walter Hamada, Richard Brener, Toby Emmerich, Marty P. Ewing, Doug Davison, Jon Silk and Niija Kuykendall serving as executive producers.

New Line Cinema presents a Vertigo Entertainment/Lin Pictures/Katzsmith Production, IT. The film is being distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.
