Gerald Anderson and Arci Muñoz Blockbuster Movie "Can We Still Be Friends?" To Be Screened in Select Countries Worldwide via TFC@theMovies starting June 23

In this day and age when traditions are challenged and new norms arise, it comes as no surprise that the on-screen, unconventional team-up of Kapamilya stars Gerald Anderson and Arci Muñoz hit it off at first collaboration via “Always Be My Maybe”.”

Since their first on-screen performance which is both a blockbuster and social media sensation, the team-up has been called “Team Lablab” and is now back in the mid-year offering of Star Cinema, “Can We Still Be Friends?” screening outside the Philippines via TFC@theMovies in the U.S. and Canada starting June 23 and in Papua New Guinea starting June 29.

For their reunion movie, they will give life to the characters of Digs (Anderson) and Sam (Muñoz).

Digs and Sam are a couple happy with their relationship which has lasted for eight years, that is until they decide to amicably end their relationship.

Anderson and Muñoz provide a peek into their characters’ side of the story.

For her part, singer-actress Muñoz said that her character Sam was looking for something in their relationship, which she did not find with Digs. “Siyempre ang mga babae may mga pangangailangan. Gusto ko naman once in a while we go out para lang ma-ignite iyong spark. Hindi niya nakita iyon kay Digs - sobrang magkaiba sila. (Women have needs. They want to go out with their partner once in a while to ignite the spark. She did not see that with Digs - they are total opposites)”.

For Millennial Leading Man Anderson, his character Digs has been head-over-heels with Sam to the point where he got too comfortable. “May times na nararamdaman ni Sam na Digs is taking her for granted. Para kay Digs naman, mahal na mahal niya si Sam but sobrang komportable na siya. (There are times that Sam felt Digs is taking her for granted. But for Digs, he only loved Sam so much that he got too comfortable in the relationship)”.

The screenwriter of the film, Jen Chuaunsu, was inspired to write the story of the film because of the real-life experience of a person she once met. “Parang kinuwento niya how nag-break na sila ng boyfriend niya pero friendly pa rin sila,” she recalls. “We found that interesting. Kamusta naman ‘yon? Paano iyong relationship na ‘yon? So doon nanggaling ang concept. (She narrated how she and her boyfriend broke up but remained friends. We found that interesting. How is that? How are their relationship? That is where we got the concept)”.

In Digs and Sam’s story, after they end their 8-year relationship, they decide to remain ‘friends’. It turns out, this friendship becomes an excuse for them to constantly check on each other as they individually take on the dating game again.

Unlike the other break-up films, this Star Cinema directorial debut of Prime Cruz wants to approach the story in a different manner. “Usually kapag breakup stories heavy, drama, iyakan. So inisip namin, paano kung may story na dini-deal ang breakup pero mas light ang approach –- ganoon iyong film na ito, (Usually breakup stories are heavy with emotions, dramatic, and are filled with crying scenes. We were thinking of how to tell a breakup story but with a light approach -– that is the treatment for this film)” he says.

The film also looks into the crucial role of social dating apps in relationships these days.

Also part of the film are young stars Bryan Santos, Ria Atayde, Brian Sy, Gege Severo, Erika Padilla, Markie Stroem, and Emmanuelle Vera.

Will Digs and Sam, really just remain friends after their breakup?  Or is it possible for exes to be a couple again?

Find out in the film “Can We Still Be Friends?” which will screen outside the Philippines via TFC@theMovies in key countries worldwide on the following countries and dates: US and Canada on June 23; Papua New Guinea on June 29; and coming soon in  Brunei.

Coca-Cola Plants a Greener Future in Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur

Along the rocky terrain of Mindanao's eastern coast, in the town of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, is a lush 10-hectare community farm that has been cited as one of the model farms by various government agencies, including the Department of Agriculture (DA). Despite the unpredictable weather, which includes month-long monsoon rains and even longer dry spells, the farm has yielded fruits and vegetables beyond what the land and its surrounding areas has ever seen.

This verdant bounty and pockets of rain forests belies the fact that most of Hinatuan lies on limestone bedrock. The constant salty winds blowing from the Pacific Ocean, alongside the lack of access to fresh water has contributed to the less than ideal environment for agricultural cultivation and has restricted most farming activities to coconut and corn production. The lack of water source also discounts the possibility of livestock-raising.

"In 2012, we decided to farm better with the assistance from various stakeholders. We made sure that every help we received would be maximized," said Arsolino Cabilin, chairman of the Tagasaka Coconut Farmers Association (TACOFA).

In that same year, TACOFA became a recipient of the Coca-Cola Agos Program in partnership with Alternative Indigenous Development Foundation, Inc. (AIDFI). Through this project, the community was able to effectively shift to a more sustainable farming system – organic farming.

The Coca-Cola Agos Program installed a modified version of a simple technology called ram pump that allows lowland water to be brought to elevated areas without the need for electricity.

Making barren landscapes lush with the Coca-Cola Agos Program

"The unpredictable weather made it difficult for us to veer away from planting only coconuts and corn. There were times when it would suddenly have three weeks of no rain, sometimes it would stretch for two and a half months. Vegetables could not hold it out that long without rain," said Dina Bayarcal, a TACOFA member and former treasurer. "We would fetch water from the river and manually bring it to the farm and water the plants. That's the only thing we would do the whole day during a dry spell," Bayarcal added.

With the availability of water through the ram pumps, TACOFA was able to diversify its crops that now include cantaloupes, watermelons, soybeans, corn, coconuts, and other vegetables that are grown throughout the year. The association is even putting up a coco fiber rope and coir (coconut fiber) production facility.

Today, TACOFA membership has grown to over 100 farmer members tilling and developing the 10-hectare land, tapping its water source from the Coca-Cola Agos Program. The organization even plans on leasing some of the neighboring farms in order for them to expand their production.

"With a secure source of water, through the Coca-Cola Agos ram pumps, we were able to think of ways on how to better improve the way we farm. Access to water opened us to an endless possibility of options on what we can plant and raise," said Cabilin. "We are also looking at ways on how we can further add value to our products."

This year, the association has completed its coco coir production facility that would enable them to produce ropes, fiber mats, and coir logs – natural and biodegradable ways of preventing soil erosion, and contour farming. Tagasaka's coconut nurseries have even boosted its contribution to the Department of Agriculture's continuing effort to rehabilitate the ageing coconut industry, with seedling mortality rates now reduced from 55 to 20 percent.

Coca-Cola Agos Program: A gift to the next generation

TACOFA serves as the association for managing the Coca-Cola Agos Program after the ram pumps were turned over to the community. As the recipient organization and on behalf of the whole community, they are responsible for the maintenance and assurance that the ram pumps will continue to serve its purpose. Prior to the turn-over, TACOFA underwent workshops and orientations conducted by AIDFI on how to maintain and manage the ram pump as well as their natural environment. Two members of the organization also underwent hands-on mechanical training and have been certified by AIDFI to maintain the ram pumps for the community.

The organization serves as the unifying body for all household and farm recipients of the Coca-Cola Agos Program. They work hand-in-hand in taking care of the gift of water brought about by the installation of ram pumps for their community. They envision the project to serve the water needs of now and preserved for the next generations of TACOFA members.

"The Coca-Cola Agos ram pump is a gift to us, and it will be our gift to the next generation. Today, we will show the people the many ways one can farm; we will show those who have given much to us that we are grateful for their gift," said Cabilin. "And we will show the next generation that with hard work, perseverance, and unceasing faith, things can and will be better."

Beauty is Not Just for Gals, WATSONS Releases Grooming Essentials for Guys

Gone are the days when "alindog" is a term synonymous to women. Let's face it, regardless of the gender, we all want to look good, feel good, smell good. Good grooming boost our morale and confidence. Not just it's a huge plus factor to finding our "forever," it is likewise play a key role to a successful career, to expand your network, to make your mark in society, and so on, and so forth.

In this fast-paced millennial time, good grooming is not just limited to washing our face, bathing, brushing our teeth, shaving and putting on deodorant. Men need more!

Most Filipino men used to leave the decisions on what soap or shampoo to buy to their mothers, wives or girlfriends,” said Watsons Group Marketing Manager Karen Fabres. She also said, "But their involvement in the shopping mission is growing. They want to smell, feel and sample the products they use on their face and body. They’re becoming more engaged.”

That's why WATSONS, Asia’s leading health and personal care store, in their recent event entitled “BroBootcamp”, Watsons rolled out a crash course program showing the boys how to master personal care. From basic cleansing training, to showering, shaving and scent, all the way up to moisturizing, the guys got the lowdown on upping their grooming games.

The event was attended by TV host Robi Domingo, basketball star Kiefer  Ravena, actor John James Uy, and Fashion Blogger David Guison - who shared their most-kept grooming secrets that made them successful in their chosen fields.

Cleansing

Robi Domingo shared: “Cleansing preps the whole grooming process. Shower once or twice a day and don’t forget to wash your face. Taking good care of your face and your body will lead to a good-smelling you, earns you a lot of pogi points during close encounters which, of course, is always a turn on.

Millennials are expected to always succeed. So we have to look the part, and good grooming is one way to do it.

Sharp and Clean

Always look sharp and clean. A man should have a go-to trusty razor and shaving cream to achieve the manly art of shaving without hurting themselves.  Remember to wash your face first with warm water for up to three minutes to remove dead skin and avoid cuts, use a shaving gel to prevent razor burns, and let your shaver do all the work for you, then rinse it all out with cold water before finishing off with a splash of moisturizing aftershave. It will make you feel great and smell even greater.” says Kiefer Ravena

Moisturizing

Most men are guilty of taking for granted their skin. We tend to underestimate the power of a well-hydrated skin. Men need to moisturize because it can prevent the effects of damaging environmental influences and stress and to restore nutrients to the skin.” according to John James Uy.

Refreshing
A lot of guys underestimate the importance of getting that scent in check. Start with the basic deodorant; then spray on a light fragrance or cologne to complete your look.

Fragrances are a great, yet simple way to express yourself. Every guy has their unique personality and it’s great that Axe really helps them bring this out with their wide range of fragrances. Each one is unique, so you know that no matter what your personality is, there is a right fragrance for you.” says David Guison.

The most important thing that these men found out- grooming is a reflection of one’s character. Looking your best isn’t about vanity. It’s about taking full advantage of every edge you can. In a job interview, on a date, in pretty much every other daily battle you face- the guy who looks like he’s got it together has the upper hand.

Armed with manly knowledge and a swag bag full of grooming goods from Nivea Men, Gillette, Belo Men, Axe, Pond’s Men, Old Spice, Freshman, Adidas, Watsons Men Razor, Watsons Nose Pore Strips, and Press N’ Mix Hair Color, Watsons

Check out these fun ideas.

1.       Prepare baon together.

Teach your kids the basics of food preparation by involving them in preparing simple snacks like sandwiches, veggie sticks, or simple ulam-and-rice combos. Make it extra fun by coming  up with Bento meals, where rice and ulam can be done in various shapes.  Try making Monster Burgers, as shown on Snaks Naman of Team YeY.

2.       Learn Philippine literature together.

Turn TV bonding into a fun learning experience by tuning in to Team YeY’s StorYeY to revisit classic Philippine literature. Stand by to explain any questions they might have, and turn it into an educational viewing habit.

3.       Do art projects together.

Having quality time with kids doesn’t have to involve lots of planning and money as you can help with their homework and art projects every now and then. Together, you can get crafty and creative. Tune in to Team YeY’s Artstig for easy ideas.

4.       Beat the rainy day blues with party games at home.

To make rainy days festive, improvise by organizing DIY party games at home with the kids. Invite cousins and classmates over on a weekend and engage them in team games as seen on Team YeY’s Sunday Funday and Game Play.

5.       Take a break from work stress and jam.

Take a short break by jamming with your kids while watching Team YeY’s Soundcheck. This will also give you an opportunity to see and experience what your kids are into these days. Try teaching them your favorite songs, too—they’ll enjoy learning “old” songs from you too!

6.       Get some exercise by dancing.

Since it’s hard to find time to exercise these days, improvise! Bust a move with the kids as they dance along to Team YeY’s Galaw Go. You don’t need a Zumba class—just dance with the kids and have some laughs as you attempt to follow the dance steps on TV.

Don’t let the start of the school year stop you from spending quality time with your kids. Set aside a little time each day to play and learn with them. Senator Cynthia Villar Seeks Ban on Unli-Rice Promos of Fastfood and Restaurants, Netizens React

Senator Cynthia Villar on Wednesday proposed banning of unli-rice promo of fastfood and restaurants, suggesting instead the consumption of vegetables.

Aside from the supposed health benefits of eating less rice, Senator Cynthia Villar said the move would help the government achieve its rice self-sufficiency target.

Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol earlier said the government sought to meet the rice self-sufficiency goal by 2020.

I think we should learn how to eat vegetables because it’s healthier. Kasi sasabihin mas mura ang rice sa vegetables eh ang mahal naman magpagamot ng diabetes,” said Villar, the chair of the Senate Committee on Agriculture and Food, during a hearing on rice production and consumption.

Ipagbawal na yang unlimited rice, masama yan. Pagbawal na natin yang unlimited rice kasi nagkakasakit tayo gawa ng unlimited rice na yan; we should learn how to eat vegetables,” she added.

Villar also told the officials to encourage the consumption of brown rice, instead of well-milled rice.

Based from my readings, kaya daw tayo nagkakaloko sa rice kasi puro rice ang kinakain natin,” Villar said.

We should not encourage well-milled rice. Kung pwedeng brown rice, brown rice na lang. Kasi pag kinain mo, mabigat sa tiyan, konti lang nakakain mo,” she added.

Immediately after, hashtags Cynthia Villar, Unli Rice, and Mang Inasal (a restaurant known to offering unli rice promo) become a top-trending topic on social media. Netizens also expressed their disgust through funny memes. Some of them:

The ACA recognizes outstanding performance by Asian carriers, multimedia content providers, vendors, and other communication service providers. It is conducted annually by London-based industry publication Total Telecom.

Smart's Welcome Change campaign – which communicated the company's digital pivot and encouraged Filipinos to empower themselves through mobile innovations – won the Best Brand Campaign recognition.

Smart, represented by PLDT SG country manager James Melon, receives the first of two awards at the ACA in Singapore
Janet Watkin, head of the ACA panel of judges and CEO of a customer experience consultancy, said simply making it to the shortlist was already an achievement, given the challenges faced by the telecommunications industry.

"Doing business has become more digital, global, social, and mobile, and the marketplace is vaster and more crowded than it has ever been. Alongside changes in technology and competition are the changing expectations and behavior of customers. As such, making it onto the shortlist for the Asia Communication Awards is indeed a formidable achievement. To win requires that something extra special that is a cut above the rest," she said.

"We are honored to receive these awards from a prestigious institution that understands the rapid changes sweeping through the telco industry. This recognition further inspires us to intensify our pursuit for digital transformation and to bring the benefits of the digital life to more Filipinos," said PLDT and Smart chairman and CEO Manny V. Pangilinan.

Smart has a multi-pronged approach in encouraging Filipinos to welcome the digital change – it continuously improves and expands its network while making available devices, relevant content, and value-packed service offers to its subscribers.

In 2016, Smart and PLDT launched a $1-billion digital transformation program to enable their fixed and mobile networks to support the rising demand for digital services. Smart has committed to progressively deploy LTE services to 95% of the country's cities and municipalities by end-2018. To do this, the company is combining low-band frequencies for better indoor penetration and wider coverage, with high-band frequencies for additional capacity. These frequencies include those obtained through the acquisition of the telco businesses of San Miguel Corp.

Smart has finished its LTE deployment in Boracay and Metro Davao, while efforts are ongoing in Metro Cebu and Metro Manila. Internal tests show Smart's LTE service consistently increasing in speeds and registering improved indoor data coverage. Third-party crowdsourced tests also show that Smart offers the fastest LTE service in the Philippines.

Because not many Filipinos can afford LTE handsets, Smart has partnered with various device manufacturers to introduce affordable LTE devices with network-compatible frequencies.

To communicate its digital transformation, Smart in mid-2016 unveiled a new logo resembling the Greek letter Delta which means change. Smart also launched the Welcome Change campaign to encourage more Filipinos to discover what the digital life has to offer.

To expand its library of relevant content, the company has partnered with the likes of iflix, Cignal, ABS-CBN's iWantTV, and Fox.

On top of these efforts, Smart continues to introduce affordable and value-packed products such as GigaSurf50 which offers 1 GB of data plus 300 MB for YouTube and other apps, as well as unlimited SMS to all networks. All this is valid for three days for only P50.

Smart has won several awards at the ACA, including Operator of the Year in 2011 and 2012.

Last year, Smart TechnoCart – a mobile digital laboratory donated to public schools to help develop literacy among kindergarten students – won the Social Contribution Award. This is part of Smart's efforts to bring digital technology to underserved communities to aid their development.

Smart's donation of digital tools and content, even in remote areas without electricity, enable more Filipinos to be part of the global knowledge economy. Depending on the terrain, the learning packages come in the form of the TechnoCart or a backpack called School-in-a-Bag. These contain devices such as tablets, laptops, projectors, pocket Wi-Fis, and solar chargers.

More importantly, the devices are preloaded with learning tools such as the Batibot mobile application co-developed by Smart. This is the first educational app for kids in the Filipino language that is aligned with the kindergarten curriculum of the Department of Education.

ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya's "The Dirty Watercolor Exhibit" Wins Two Tambuli Awards

"The Dirty Watercolor" project, ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation's painting exhibit which drew international media attention for using Manila's dirty water samples as medium, won a Silver and Bronze award at the 2017 Asia-Pacific Tambuli Awards.

The exhibit, held in Rockwell last May 2016 and curated by Cid Reyes, was recognized under the Care for the Environment (Bronze awardee) and Public Relations (Silver awardee) categories as it sought to help rehabilitate Manila's polluted estuaries and rivers through art.

Its three-day run managed to raise over P1.3 million for the Foundation.

To successfully achieve the concept from its agency TBWA\Santiago Mangada Puno, ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya brought together the country's top local artists who used water samples from Tullahan River, Cainta Creek, Marikina River, Taguig Estuary, and Binondo Canal to make paintings that depicted everyday life along Metro Manila's riverbanks.

Some of the paintings featured in the Dirty Watercolor art exhibit showed children swimming in polluted waters and families living under bridges near the river banks.

"Kapit Bisig Para sa Ilog Pasig" was the prime beneficiary of ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya's Dirty Watercolor exhibit.

The Asia-Pacific Tambuli Awards is organized by the University of Asia and the Pacific (UA&P) to recognize excellent integrated marketing communications campaigns that pursue and promote social good.

Adam West, the actor whose seven-decade career was defined by his role in the 1960s television series "Batman," has died.

He was 88 years old.

The actor died Friday night, June 9, after a "short but brave battle with leukemia," his family said in a statement posted to West's Facebook page.

West catapulted to fame after portraying the superhero Batman and his alter ego Bruce Wayne on the popular campy television series that premiered in 1966.

But the high-profile role ultimately restricted West from playing different characters later on.
