TRUEMONEY Reaches the 1 Million Customer Mark in the Philippines

TrueMoney Philippines recently achieved one of their biggest milestones to date.

In less than a year of operations in the country, the company already reached its 1 million transacting customer mark. TrueMoney is a Fintech brand of Ascend Money, a digital finance venture of the C.P. Group from Thailand, one of the largest diversified conglomerates in Asia, and Ant Financial (Alipay), the payments arm of e-commerce giant Alibaba Group.

Humble Beginnings and Rapid Growth

It wasn’t so long ago when TrueMoney Philippines was just a business concept on a set of PowerPoint slides.

Within the first few months, TrueMoney Philippines grew its workforce from one person to hundreds of employees spread across several regions in the country. The team also launched its core technology system and began offering services on a pilot basis to several partners.

In a few months’ time, it already built what is now one of the largest payment and remittance networks in the country, with over 5,000 TrueMoney Centers.

Our mission is to provide everyone with ACCESS to affordable and innovative financial services, particularly those who are underbanked and underserved today,” says TrueMoney Philippines CEO Xavier Marzan. “That means being pervasive and going to where these underserved segments are.”

Today, TrueMoney Philippines already provides services such as payment of e-commerce purchases, bills payment, buying of load and credits, and remittance to multiple provinces nationwide, including far flung areas in Albay, Bataan, Benguet, Bohol, Bukidnon, Cagayan de Oro, Camarines Sur, Cavite, Cebu, Davao, Ilocos, Isabela, Laguna, La Union, Metro Manila, Misamis Oriental, Nueva Ecija, Nueva Vizcaya, Pampanga, Pangasinan, Quezon, Rizal, Tarlac, and Zambales and more!

Where we are today is just the starting point,” Marzan says. “We are constantly growing our network of partner centers to cover more greenfield areas.

With an empowered footprint of TrueMoney Centers in strategic corridors, TrueMoney introduced its Money Padala (remittance) service a few months ago. For TrueMoney’s Partner Agents, this meant a more diversified portfolio of services and a greater potential of earning higher income. For its customers, it meant convenience and affordability as TrueMoney’s cash-to-cash Money Padala service is one of the lowest sending rates in the country.

While the average rates for domestic remittances today range from 3 percent to more than 10 percent for some providers, TrueMoney rates go as low as only 2 percent of the transaction amount - without any additional charges to the recipient. So say for remittances of P1,000, the total cost of sending is only P20. The recipient also gets the entire amount without any additional charges.

To reinforce its drive to serve the masses, TrueMoney has also worked with talk show host Boy Abunda in promoting the new brand in the Philippine market.

This is just the first step,” Marzan adds. “In the coming months, we will be launching additional payment partners and expanding our portfolio of services. Given our industry, we need to constantly stay ahead of what the market demands. We need to be at the forefront of innovation to address current gaps in the market with new products as well as to solve difficult challenges in an emerging market like ours with new capabilities.

"Walang Takot!" The 13th Cinema One Originals Festival Coming this November

Walang Takot. The tagline of the 13th Cinema One Originals translates into ‘fearless’ in English and is more than an apt descriptor for the festival’s programming ethos and its reputation, the way it has, year in and year out, shepherded unique, adventurous cinematic voices into the limelight.

But Walang Takot also exemplifies not only the way the festival is embracing the changing face and attitudes of cinema, from the paradigm shifts when it comes to new ways of watching films to the influx of a diverse new audience, with a deeper sense of cinematic history and new cinematic modes, but also the way it endeavors to ride the changes by closing the gaps, striving for a cinematic experience that allows for the co-existence of old and new platforms and the convergence of old and new audiences, where past and future cinema occupy the same evolutionary continuum, looking back by moving forward.

The two films that make up this year’s documentary section are both examinations of a past with uncanny present-day resonances but from diverse vantage points. Dempster Samarista’s “Bundok Banahaw, Sacred and Profane” is an exploration of the titular mystical mountain, using secret histories and sacred knowledge as a way of piecing together our cultural psyche. Phyllis Grande’s “Haunted: A Visit to the Red House” focuses on the atrocities visited by Japanese soldiers on comfort women during World War 2, a horrendous collective memory that remains eerily relevant and refuses to be forgotten.

There are seven films in the full-length narrative section, including two returning alumni, two debuts and two much-awaited second features. In “Paki,” Dagitab director Giancarlo Abrahan casts veteran character actress Dexter Doria in her very first lead role as woman in her golden years whose children tries to stop her from leaving her husband of sixty years to live the rest of her days out as an old maid. Shamaine Buencamino and Noel Trinidad co-star.

Nervous Translation,” about a shy girl who discovers a pen that can translate the thoughts and feelings of people when they get nervous, is written and directed by Cinema One alumna Shireen Seno, whose “Big Boy” was part of Cinema One Originals 2013, itself a slightly odd, often magical childhood reverie. Jana Agoncillo and Sid Lucero star.

Richard Somes, of “Yanggaw,” “Ishmael” and “Mariposa” fame, returns to Cinema One for his fourth outing in the festival, with “Historiographika Errata,” an elaborate historical mosaic that attempts to figure out why we are what we are, throwing in the mix a suicidal Rizal, a cross-dressing Bonifacio and the widow who became the first Makapili. The sprawling, ambitious film features Joem Bascon, Alex Medina, Maxine Eigenmann and Nathalie Hart.

For his first outing with Cinema One, “Walang Forever” director Dan Villegas adapts Vincent De Jesus’ much-loved stage musical “Changing Partners,”  a bittersweet exploration of relationships told in perspectives of various genders, starring Agot Isidro, Anna Luna, Jojit Lorenzo and Sandino Martin.

Kip Oebanda, fresh off the success of “Bar Boys,” is directing the aswang inversion “Nay,” about a man suffering from a terminal disease who uncovers a dark family secret. Enchong Dee, Sylvia Sanchez and Jameson Blake star.

The two first features this year are Fatrick Tabada and Rae Red’s “Si Chedeng At Si Apple,” a dark comedy where Elizabeth Oropesa and Gloria Diaz play two old girl friends who become accidental criminals and embark on a road trip with a severed head in a fake Louis Vuitton bag, and Joseph Teoxon’s time-jumping “Throwback Today,” in which Carlo Aquino plays a disgruntled young man at the end of his rope who stumbles on an impossible way to rewrite his own history. Annicka Dolonius, Empress Shuck and Allan Paule co-star.

The year’s world cinema highlights also grace this year’s foreign film line-up, a 13 –strong program that includes Robin Campillo’s “Beats Per Minute,” Claire Denis’ “Let The Sun Shine In,” Francois Ozon’s “L’Amant Double,” Ildiko Enyedi’s “On Body And Soul,” Joachim Trier’s “Thelma,” Hirokazu Koreeda’s “The Third Murder,” Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s “Before We Vanish,” Sebastian Leilo’s “A Fantastic Woman,” Amit Masurkar’s “Newton,” Lucrecia Martel’s “Zama, The Safdie Brothers’ Good Time,” Warwick Thornton’s “Sweet Country,” Luca Guadagnino’s “Call Me By Your Name,” and the 4K restoration of Steven Spielberg’s science-fiction classic “Close Encounters of the Third Kind.”

Among the restored classics to be showcased this year include Marilou Diaz Abaya’s “Moral,” Jeffrey Sonora’s “Asedillo,” Celso Ad Castillo’s “Tag Ulan Tag Araw” and Danny Zialcita’s “Langis At Tubig.” Restored versions Zialcita’s “Karma,” Abaya’s “Karnal” and Lino Brocka’s “Cain at Abel” will also be screened.

Lastly, Sari Dalena’s documentary on Ishmael Bernal, “Ishma,” will screen to coincide with the launch of the new Ishmael Bernal book, “ProBernal Anti Bio,” written by Ishmael Bernal himself with Jorge Ayago and Angela Stuart-Santiago.

The 13th Cinema One Originals runs from November 13-21 at Trinoma, Glorietta, Gateway, UP Cine Adarna, Cinema 76 and Cinematheque with an extended run from November 22-28 at the Power Plant Mall.

Alisah Bonaobra Was Sent Home By Sharon Osbourne At The Judges House Round of X Factor UK

Filipina singer Alisah Bonaobra was sent home by judge and mentor Sharon Osbourne at the judges’ house round on Sunday’s episode of the show.  She sang her version of Sam Smith’s hit song Lay Me Down in front of Sharon and her children Jack and Kelly. After her performance, the Osbourne children were both very impressed.

She can sing!” expressed by Kelly Osbourne.

To which her brother Jack agreed. “That’s the cleanest performance we’ve seen.”

Every time we’ll hear her sing, she’s been consistent, the only reason I didn’t put her through at six chairs- ‘coz she was out- she was in, was because every song she sang was like Whitney Houston, or a Disney song which you can’t do week after week because it becomes cheese fest.” Sharon said after Alisah’s performance.

Alisah was then asked by host Dermot O’Leary if she thinks she’s done enough and she gave an optimistic response. “Hopefully I’ve done enough because I just gave [it] my all.”

When the decision was made, Sharon brought the news to all the contestants through a one-on-one conversation. While talking to Alisah, Sharon made sure to acknowledge the talent and hard work she had been putting.

You have the most amazing voice, I know that you really need this and you really want it. But I feel that you’re kind of very one-dimensional, your power ballads, and even though that’s fantastic, I wanna see other sides of you,” Sharon first told Alisah.

This is a very, very hard decision for me. A very, very hard decision and I didn’t come to it lightly,” Sharon added. “I’m so sorry but I’m gonna be sending you home.”

Alisah just burst out in tears as host Dermot gave her a tight hug.

The X Factor UK airs first and exclusive on RTL CBS Entertainment same day as the UK on Sundays and Mondays at 10:30am with primetime encores Sundays, Mondays and Thursdays at 9:00pm.

RTL CBS Entertainment is available on SKYcable channels 53(SD) and 196(HD), SKYdirect channel 35, Destiny Cable channel 53, and Cablelink channels 37(SD) and 313(HD).

“Wansapanataym: Candy's Crush” is the only PH Program Nominated at International Emmy Kids Awards

“Wansapanataym,” a TV series that imparts valuable lessons and promotes good values to viewers, bagged a nomination for best TV movie/mini-series category in the 2017 International Emmy Kids Awards and the only Philippine TV show that made it to the prestigious award-giving body.

The show earned its nomination for its “Candy’s Crush” episode, which starred Loisa Andalio and Jerome Ponce. It revolved around the life of Candy (Loisa), a young lady who got punished after using a magic potion to make the campus heartthrob Paolo (Jerome) fall in love with her. It was directed by Andoy Ranay and aired in June 2016.

It will be competing against Netherlands’ “Alleen op de Wereld (Nobody's Boy),” United Kingdom’s “Hank Zipzer's Christmas Catastrophe,” and Australia’s “Little Lunch.” The awards show will take place on April 18, 2018.

Aside from “Wansapantaym,” “TV Patrol” also received a nomination and finished as a finalist at the 2017 International Emmy Awards for news and current affairs last October 5.

Kapamilya actor Zanjoe Marudo was also recently nominated at the award-giving body in the top male acting honor category for his notable performance in “MMK,” where he portrayed a father who single-handedly raised his child while living inside a cave.

ABS-CBN previously scored International Emmy Awards nominations for Jodi Sta. Maria (“Pangako Sa ‘Yo”) and “Bridges of Love” in 2016, “Precious Hearts Romances Presents: Impostor” (Best Telenovela) in 2011, “Dahil May Isang Ikaw” (Best Telenovela) and Sid Lucero in “Dahil May Isang Ikaw” (Best Actor) in 2010, and “Kahit Isang Saglit” (Best Telenovela) and Angel Locsin in “Lobo” (Best Actress) in 2009.

It is also not the first time that ABS-CBN bagged a nomination in the news category. In 2011, “TV Patrol” received its first Emmy medal for its coverage of the Luneta hostage crisis in August 2010. Its weekend edition was also nominated in 2013 for its coverage during the super typhoon Haiyan.

Another ABS-CBN news and current affairs program, “Bandila” nabbed the Philippine’s first nomination in International Emmys for its report on the Subic rape case in 2006.

Meanwhile, “Wansapanataym” continues to bring values-laden stories with its current series “Louie’s Biton.” After experiencing the life of his idol Ralph (Aljur Abrenica) with the help of the magic shoe shiner, Louie (Grae Fernandez) now takes on the life of Melissa (Louise Delos Reyes) to fix the mistakes he made using her body.

Meet the Iconic DC All-Stars in "Justice League"

After fighting side-by-side across decades of comics, the iconic DC all-stars are going all in to save the world in their first-ever big-screen team-up, Warner Bros. Pictures’ epic action adventure Justice League, hitting Philippine cinemas November 16.

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, The Flash and Cyborg—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Justice League is directed by Zack Snyder from a screenplay by Chris Terrio and Joss Whedon, story by Chris Terrio & Zack Snyder, based on characters from DC, Superman created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. The film’s producers are Charles Roven, Deborah Snyder, Jon Berg and Geoff Johns, with executive producers Jim Rowe, Wesley Coller, Curtis Kanemoto, Chris Terrio and Ben Affleck.

Conceived by comic book writer Gardner Fox and artist Mike Sekowsky, the original incarnation of DC’s legendary League of Heroes – the Justice League of America – teamed up for the first time in 1960 on the pages of The Brave and the Bold #28.

MEET THE LEAGUE...

Batman / Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck). Inspired by Superman’s sacrifice, the billionaire detective is putting together a team of Super Heroes to combat a force threatening the entire planet. For the first time, Batman understands that he, alone, cannot save the world.

Wonder Woman / Diana Prince (Gal Gadot). The world’s first and foremost female Super Hero, Wonder Woman embodies the unrivaled force and grace of a born warrior with the genuine compassion of a true humanitarian. The first to joinBruce Wayne’s team, Diana’s natural confidence and unmistakable intelligence make her an indispensable ally.

Aquaman / Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa). Half-human, half-Atlantean, Arthur Curry is an outsider who does not feel at home on the Earth’s surface or under the sea. That is, until the world is threatened and he joins Batman’s newly assembled team of heroes.

The Flash / Barry Allen (Ezra Miller). Barry Allen is an excessively energetic student attending Central City College, where he studies criminal justice with the hope of one day freeing his incarcerated father. More than eager to team up with crime fighting icon Batman, Barry’s remarkably quick wit is surpassed only by his ability to move at hyper-speed.

Cyborg / Victor Stone (Ray Fisher). Part man, part machine, Victor Stone is a former star athlete at Gotham City University. After a horrific accident nearly cost him his life, he was saved when his father, scientist Silas Stone, used alien technology to reconstruct his body. In the process, Silas turned Victor into a human computer, organic with biomechatronic body parts. In other words, a Cyborg.

Warner Bros. Pictures presents an Atlas Entertainment/Cruel and Unusual Production, a Zack Snyder Film, Justice League. The film will be released in 3D and 2D in select theaters and IMAX worldwide beginning November 16, 2017, by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company. justiceleaguethemovie.net

Nicole Scherzinger Walks Out After Pinoy Boyband JBK Failed to Enter the X Factor UK Judges' House Round

JBK, a trio composed of Joshua Bulot, Bryan del Rosario, and Kim Lawrenz Ordonio, is the first Filipino boyband who made it to the show.

During their room auditions, the judges were all impressed not only with their vocals but also with their dedication flying all the way from the Philippines.

The boyband’s cheesy rendition of “I’ll Make Love To You” was well received by the audience and the judges, especially when the high notes were hit on spot.

Wow, guys! You’ve got a great reaction on that song, your vocals are great, I just think it’s a no-brainer with you guys.” Said judge Sharon Osbourne after the group’s performance.

Nicole Scherzinger gave nothing but praises to the group. “JBK, I’m so proud of you boys, my Filipino brothers up there! I’m proud that you flew all the way from the Philippines ‘coz you are not flying back home!

The crowd then chanted for Simon Cowell to give the group a seat.

Before Simon made a decision, judge Louis Walsh told him that the group absolutely deserve a seat.

To which he responded that he made up his mind. “You are not gonna be disappointed, you’re gonna have a seat!

The trio, who was anxiously waiting for Simon’s decision, curled up in great shock and was almost in tears after hearing what he said. Judges Louis and Nicole were both very happy with them getting a seat. The duo Afro Swagg was asked to give up their seat for JBK.

Later on, Simon asked JBK and girl group Lemonade for a sing-off, which was apparent that Nicole Scherzinger was against.

After the JBK’s performance of “I Can Love You Like That”, originally by the group All-4-One,  they received a standing ovation from Nicole, Sharon and Louis. Even after the Lemonade’s performance, Louis Walsh kept on telling Simon to pick the boys. “JBK, they have to go through!” he added.

After choosing the girl group Lemonade, the crowd booed Simon Cowell, and Nicole Scherzinger stood up from her seat, walked out, and told him not to talk to her.

Love holds no bounds they say, and for people who are part of the LGBT community, your first love is what sometimes define you and what you want in a partner. When things don’t work out, that love is what teaches you lessons in love and life.

Most of us want a love that lasts, a love that will be nourished and cherished, and is what’s in store in Adolfo Alix Jr’s “4 Days” starring Mikoy Morales and Sebastian Castro.

Set inside the spacious and beautiful grounds of the University of the Philippines Diliman, it tells the story of Mark (Mikoy Morales) who goes about in his first day of college inside UP, where he meets his roommate Derek (Sebastian Castro) and as the two go through four years of college together, with every valentine’s day they try to get through their feelings for each other while staying inside the closet.

For those who have had or at least tried relationships from within the closet, this movie is sure to hit you to the bones with feels.

Team Magazine calls “4 Days” a love story that is full of cautionary actions that demand to break free. “There is the irony that what you love needs to be hidden, especially from parents who could take your access to each other away. There is the tragedy of this source of happiness being one you deny in front of your friends, allowing a lover’s doubt to set in.”

Kinabukasan” to screen alongside “4 Days” - Those who will watch “4 Days” will also get the chance to see “Kinabukasan” a short film that won Best Short Film in the 2015 Gawad Urian, starring Superstar Nora Aunor and Alden Richards, filmed in 2014, it was part of the short film category in the 2014 Cinema One Originals and at the 2015 Hanoi International Film Festival. The story begins with Ernest (Nora Aunor) who after losing his lover, meets Niles, the son of his lover who has come to collect his things. What might seem as a simple encounter gets filled with tension, causing the two to discover what lies underneath the sadness of losing the one you love the most.
