“La Luna Sangre” Opens “Power Unlock” Week with a Blast, Beats New GMA-7 Primetime Show

ABS-CBN’s hit action series “La Luna Sangre” kept its stronghold of its primetime slot as it prevailed over its new rival last Monday (November 27).

Based on data from Kantar Media, more viewers tuned in to the start of the show’s “Power Unlock” week and scored a national TV rating of 31.4% from combined urban and rural homes compared to the pilot episode of its rival program with only 15.6%.

Kantar Media uses a nationwide panel size of 2,610 urban and rural homes that represent 100% of the total Philippine TV viewing population.

In Monday’s episode, viewers witnessed how Malia helplessly pleaded to the moon and wished for her to gain power enough to beat Sandrino (Richard Gutierrez) and save Tristan (Daniel Padilla). Her hands suddenly glowed to red - a sign that a new power in her has awaken.

Now that Malia’s powers are unfolding, how will she use it against Sandrino? Will she be able to save Tristan before he dies in his coffin?

Watch Alab Pilipinas vs. Singapore Slingers ABL Match on ABS-CBN S+A at 8PM, November 29

Alab Pilipinas faces ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) powerhouse, the 2016-2017 season’s finalists Singapore Slingers this Wednesday (November 29) at the Sta. Rosa Multi-Purpose Complex in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.

Fans can catch the game LIVE at 8pm on S+A and S+A HD.

Bannered by 2016-2017 ABL MVP Bobby Ray Parks, and world imports Reggie Okosa and Ivan Johnson, Alab looks to feed off from the energy of an always-packed Sta. Rosa gym to put a dent on the Slingers’ record as well as get an early upper hand in their budding rivalry.

Alab stood toe-to-toe with their Singaporean counterparts last season, splitting the four games they played. Another interesting note in this matchup is that this season, former Slinger Josh Urbiztondo is playing for the Philippine side after signing up with Alab this year.

The Philippine team hopes to make a deeper run in the new season after falling short of their objective last year: to win a championship. Last November 19 at the MoA Arena, it paraded its new recruits in veterans like Urbiztondo, former DLSU Green Archer Rico Maierhofer, and Cebuano hotshot Dondon Hontiveros alongside new head coach Jimmy Alapag to start its campaign.

Alab almost beat the defending champion Hong Kong Eastern Long Lions last in that game, 89-92, with Okosa leading the charge for the home team with 28 points and 12 rebounds with fellow import and former Atlanta Hawk Ivan Johnson and Parks with 17 markers each. The three will take the cudgels for Alab once more to break into the win column against the Slingers, who defeated CSL Knights Indonesia 77-66 in their home opener behind world import Xavier Alexander, slotman Ryan Wright, and point guard AJ Mandani.

ABL’s exciting home and away format of the young league has endeared itself to fans in every place it visits, packing gyms to the roof as everyone is excited to see the stars from other parts of the Asian region visit their own hardcourt. Filipinos fans get an additional treat as some of our homegrown players are playing as imports in other teams such as the Slingers’ AJ Mandani, the Long Lions’ Christian Standhardinger, and Formosa Dreamers’ James Forrester to name a few.

Don’t miss the festivities at Alab Pilipinas’ home game against 2016-2017 ABL finalists Singapore Slingers in the continuation of the ABL action this Wednesday (November 29) LIVE from the Sta. Rosa Multi-Purpose Complex in Sta. Rosa, Laguna on on S+A and S+A HD at 8 pm.

ABS-CBN to Air China’s Remake of “Meteor Garden”

ABS-CBN officially bags the exclusive rights to air China’s remake of the phenomenal hit “Meteor Garden,” the idol drama that captivated the hearts of Filipino fans and started the Asianovela craze in the country.

In a press conference held Thursday (November 9) in Shanghai, China, the new F4 members were formally introduced namely Dylan Wang, 19, as the Dao Ming Si; Darren Chen, 22, as Hua Ze Lei; Connor Leong, 23, as Mei Zuo; and Caesar Wu, 21, as Xi Men.

Rookie Chinese actress Shen Yue, meanwhile, bagged the coveted role of Shan Cai.

According to “Meteor Garden’s” original producer Angie Chai, the cast was chosen based on their personalities that are similar to the Taiwanese version of F4.

The production group started its casting call in June this year, and various auditions were held in major cities’ first tier Universities – Taipei, Hong Kong, Singapore, Los Angeles, and China. The production team received over 30,000 applications and resumes from F4 hopefuls.

When asked why Angie thought of rebooting “Meteor Garden” this coming 2018, she said, “It is fate that led me to producing this new version of ‘Meteor Garden,’ considering that it has been 15 years already since the launch of the Taiwanese version. The original manga for me seems ‘unfinished’ and that’s why I think I did not produce the series completely. At least now, I have gotten once more the trust and license approval of the original author, and I am very happy that I get to relive the events 15 years ago and feel youthful once again.

Based from the Japanese manga “Hana Yori Dango,” “Meteor Garden” tells the story of simple girl Shan Cai who gets involved with four popular and rich young boys in school who call themselves F4 or Flower 4.

The first and original “Meteor Garden,” topbilled by Taiwanese actor Jerry Yan, aired on ABS-CBN in 2003. This is where the “Meteor Garden” fever began for Filipino fans.

After six years, the fever is very much alive, this time for the Korean remake titled “Boys Over Flowers, which also aired on ABS-CBN. The KBS-produced adaptation formally introduced international supertstar Lee Min Ho to Pinoy viewers, who is now dubbed as the King of Asianovelas in the country.

ABS-CBN remains to be the home of “Meteor Garden” on Philippine television as the Kapamilya Network airs the Chinese remake next year.

TFC and Star Magic Bring Stellar Ensemble to Singapore in Celebration of Decades of Filipino Talent

As Star Magic’s year-long celebration of 25 years of honing Filipino talents comes to a close next month, the anniversary continues to intensify as ABS-CBN’s talent arm and premier Filipino network TFC gathered some of the biggest names in the Philippine entertainment industry for “Star Magic 25: A Grand Celebration in Singapore”, held last October 29 at the Zepp @ BigBox at Venture Avenue.

The Filipinos in Singapore were in for a starry night as some of Star Magic’s most successful artists came together to share their gratitude for their fellowmen’s continued support.

Grateful for the fan support for their television shows, live concerts and other pursuits, Piolo Pascual, Jericho Rosales, Maja Salvador, Enchong Dee, Jed Madela, Inigo Pascual, KZ Tandingan, Maymay Entrata, Edward Barber, Eric Nicolas, and Kathryn Bernardo, Daniel Padilla, translated their gratitude into exciting performances.

Kicking off the celebration was their fitting opening to the tune of “Can’t Stop the Feeling” by Justin Timberlake.

First to share their performances were the Philippines’ own dancefloor royalties Salvador and Dee. Firing up the dance floor, Ultimate Dance Floor Princess Salvador sang and danced to “Cheap Thrills” by Sia, and performed her original hits “Dahan-Dahan” and “Haplos”. Meantime, the Dance Floor Heartthrob pumped up everyone with his song and dance performance of his hit single “Chinito Problems”.

From dancing to singing, Star Magic has been known to develop world-class talents and Madela and Tandingan proved it that night. The crowd was in awe when Madela performed the classic hits “Stand By Me” by Ben E. King and “Ikaw Lang ang Mamahalin” by Joey Albert. The World Championship of the Performing Arts Hall of Famer also got some members of the crowd emotional with his performance of the song “Go the Distance”, as the lyrics somehow speak of the Overseas Filipinos’ (OFs) journey. Madela also sang the inspirational hit “I Believe”.

For her part, Soul Supreme Tandingan showcased her versatility in performing different genres like rap when she did her own rendition of Gloc 9’s original hit “Sumayaw Ka”, as well as in ballad when she performed her big hit “Mahal Ko o Mahal Ako”, which she interpreted at the biggest Filipino competition for song composition at Himig Handog in 2014.

Joining their first Star Magic tour are Teen Singing Sensation Inigo Pascual, and the up-and-rising love team of Entrata and Barber, popularly known as MayWard.

Inigo could not hide his excitement as he entered the stage as he saw how the audience reacted as performed his hit single “Dahil Sa’yo”. The crowd could not contain their excitement as well as he channeled fellow Teen Heartthrob Justin Bieber by performing “Despacito” originally created and performed by Luis Fonsi featuring Daddy Yankee.

Meantime, Entrata and Barber were grinning from ear to ear when they performed their single “Baliw” and Toni Gonzaga’s “Mahal Kita Kasi” for the Singapore crowd. Barber also got everyone cracked up when he tried to deliver his message in straight Filipino albeit with a German slang. He told the crowd, “Para sa inyo, Tagalugin ko ito — umaapaw po talaga ang puso ko sa pasasalamat (I will try my best to say this in Filipino – my heart is filled with gratitude because of everyone here)”.

From the newest hit love team, Star Magic and TFC also brought The Philippines’ Premier Love Team, Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla. More popularly known as KathNiel, the teen superstars top bill the top-rating series “La Luna Sangre” where they face the mission of putting down their arch nemesis. But during the night of October 29th, they had one mission – to give their fans a performance to remember.

Bernardo first performed the song “Sit Still Look Pretty” by international artist Daya. Padilla then joined her onstage, and together, they performed the theme song of their recent film with the same title, “Can’t Help Falling In Love”, an original hit by the legendary Elvis Presley.

When it was his turn to perform, Padilla ran after Bernardo to stop her from leaving the stage, but the latter encouraged him and said “Kaya mo ‘yan (you can do it)”! and ran backstage. Padilla serenaded their fans with the song “How Sweet it is to be Loved by You” by Marvin Gaye.

From one charming leading man to another, loud cheers of “ang guwapo mo, Echo” welcomed Rosales when he got on stage for his solo performance. The Asian Drama King had everyone singing with his hit single “Pusong Ligaw”, and the song “Manila” by classic OPM group Hotdog, a song which also resonated well with Filipinos outside the homeland.

Meantime, the crowd couldn’t help but do a shout out of a line from a famous soda’s Philippine ad, “I love you, Piolo!” when the Ultimate Heartthrob appeared onstage singing “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” by Frankie Valli and also performed “Kailangan Kita”. Pascual also took the chance to get up-close with his fans.

The excitement doubled as Pascual and Rosales performed the song “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” by the classic international group Queen, together.

Meantime, Nicolas role was to inject extra entertainment and laughter and he truly delivered.

In the end, the prime artist performed an encore to the Star Magic 25th anniversary theme song “Ikaw ang Magic ng Buhay Ko”.

On top of the exciting performances, some fans got the chance to have a photo opportunity with the Star Magic artists. Some got even luckier as they were chosen to join the surprise photo opportunity with Pascual and MayWard.

At the end of the starry night, the artists were as thrilled and grateful as the audience for being able to share their gift of talent and be inspired to continue Star Magic’s pursuit of excellence in their craft.
Kicked off in October 2016 in Australia and in April 2017 in the U.S. and Canada, the last leg of celebrations will happen in December in Dammam on December 1.

monthly service fee of P2,699 (Plan 1999 + 700 for the device) for the iPhone 8 and P2,999 (Plan 1999 + 1,000 for the device) for the iPhone 8 Plus.

Here are the top reasons why you should get the new iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus only from Smart:

1. Charge to bill. It’s easier to apply with Smart postpaid because you can charge to your monthly bill the total plan inclusive of the device cost. Payment of the Smart iPhone 8 and 8 Plus devices for plans 1499, 1999, 2499 and 2999 can be paid in easy 24 monthly payments versus a big one-time cash-out through the monthly postpaid bill. No need for a credit card. On the other hand, competitor does not offer charge-to- bill and requires a big one-time device cash-out so you need to be ready with a Php 20,999 cash or through a credit card payment.

2. Maximized iPhone features with more data. Smart gives you more data to optimize your new iPhone (1GB more than competitor on hero offers). More open access data means better plan value and more reasons to enjoy your new iPhone and its features. On top of that you enjoy free VAS/app that’s interchangeable monthly and that won’t eat up your monthly data volume allocation. Some favorite apps commonly used daily are unli data in volume. These apps are FB, FB Messenger, Waze, Whatsapp, Line, Viber

3. Lower handset cost. Smart offers the latest iPhones for so much less. You would just pay for the monthly service fee after the device is paid up after 24 months (eg. You’ll pay only P1,999/month after 24 months.)

4. Powered by fastest LTE. The new iPhone is best experienced with Open Signal’s fastest LTE Network. Smart continues to cover the country with LTE connectivity plus built-in all-net calls across all plans.

5. Gadget shield. Smart gives a one month gadget shield for free against accidental damage or theft. Smart’s front liners will register you upon availment of the iPhone 8 plans.

Joshua Garcia and Julia Barretto Cover Metro Magazine's November 2017 Issue

Metro magazine, the country’s authority in style, features one of the hottest and most exciting love teams of today, Joshua Garcia and Julia Barretto, on the cover of its November issue.

Julia is no stranger to Metro pages as the magazine has charted her story in many covers - Julia the cool girl, the ‘it’ girl, and now, Julia, in love. Joshua comes off more as a mystery. He is developing a reputation of being an actor’s actor, and is often described as a young John Lloyd Cruz. His candor and easygoing manner give him that charm.

Another impressive showing of force in this issue is the Women of Now list featuring ladies who all combine style with substance: Kat Gumabao who has been fighting for body positivity for years; Grrrl Gang, led by Mich Dulce, who lends its loud voice to various women’s issues; and Sheree Gotuaco who talks in images through her brand’s National Artist series. Alessandra de Rossi is likewise experiencing a renaissance of her own. These women, together with Alex Godinez and Gabby Sareñas, show the power of the female, of believing in something so much that it becomes a reality.

Also, because it’s Christmas time already, Metro has the ultimate gift guide and continues its curated list online through the new website: Metro.Style. Catch the Web Series Finale of "Discovering Routes - The Travel Adveture of Garrett Gee and Miriste Gee" on November 16, 6PM

They say home is where you make it. For these siblings from Utah, Garrett Gee and Miristi Gee, an adventure to the Philippines became an epic journey home. After a 20-webisode season, Discovering Routes will release its web series finale on Thursday, November 16th, 6pm Pacific on DiscoveringRoutes.com.

From the private lands of the sovereign Tagbanua tribe in Coron, Palawan to the maximum-security prison in Cebu, their trip took them around the country for the first time ever, where the adventures were only surpassed by the discovery of their heritage and growing the unbreakable bond of family.

I always wanted my first immersive trip to the Philippines to be special. Experiencing it with my sister Miristi, made it unforgettable. Someday soon, I’m going to take my wife and kids there and it will be special for them to see where my heritage is from so they can be proud of their own Filipino roots,” said Garrett Gee, the show’s resident adventurer. Gee made his mark as the co-creator of Scan, which sold to Snapchat for $54M. His family traveling enterprise, The Bucket List Family, made a social media sensation of the tech entrepreneur. “It’s true that there are things in life that you will only understand once you see where you’re from. And where we’re from is beautiful.

The family travel bug didn’t skip the other Gee siblings but professional yogini Miristi Gee savored this one – her first to the Philippines – as she retraced her roots. “Growing up really close to my Filipino grandma, I instantly felt a sense that I belonged in the Philippines. The more people I met and the more halo-halo I ate, I became convinced that the best things about me are from this culture,” she shared.

In its web series finale, Garrett and Miristi are joined by their mom, Mel Gee Henderson, in the sweet town of Iloilo to celebrate the colorful Pintados de Passi festival. But the Gees are asked to lead the procession, something they were not prepared for.

Tune in for the great vibes and colorful tribes on November 16, Thursday, 6pm Pacific on DiscoveringRoutes.com.
