Warner Bros. Pictures Surpasses $5-Billion at Worldwide Box Office

Warner Bros. Pictures has crossed the $5 billion mark at the global box office this year - only the second time in its illustrious history that the Studio has crossed that tremendous milestone. It is also the eighth time in the last nine years that Warner Bros. has earned more than $4 billion in a single year, marking an industry record. The announcement was made today by Sue Kroll, President, Worldwide Marketing and Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures.

Additionally, setting a new Studio record in 2017, Warner Bros. had five of its feature film releases each take in more than $500 million worldwide (in order): Jordan Vogt-Roberts’ action adventure “Kong: Skull Island” (with Legendary Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures), starring Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, John Goodman, Brie Larson and John C. Reilly; Patty Jenkins’ action adventure “Wonder Woman,” starring Gal Gadot and Chris Pine; Christopher Nolan’s sweeping epic “Dunkirk,” with an ensemble cast including Kenneth Branagh, Cillian Murphy, Mark Rylance and Tom Hardy; New Line Cinema’s horror thriller “IT”; and, most recently, Zack Snyder’s “Justice League,” teaming Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Raymond Fisher, Jason Momoa and Ezra Miller, which stands at more than $574 million and still climbing.

For the First Time Ever, Five Releases Each Earned More Than $500 Million Worldwide

The year’s highlights also include three more releases crossing $250 million worldwide: the animated feature “The LEGO® Batman Movie” (with LEGO System A/S); New Line’s horror thriller “Annabelle: Creation”; and Alcon Entertainment’s dramatic thriller “Blade Runner 2049” (with Sony Pictures).

In making the announcement, Kroll stated, “We are thrilled to reach this extraordinary benchmark as we come to the end of an amazing, record-setting year. Surpassing five billion dollars in a single year can only happen with an incredible level of hard work across all theatrical divisions, as well as the invaluable contributions of the many talented filmmakers and actors with whom we are so fortunate to collaborate. Congratulations to everyone who shares in this success.

OPPO Supports Miss Possibilities in Stopping the Use of the “R” Word

Miss Possibilities, the first pageant in Asia for children with special needs, just recently crowned Miss Possibilities 2017 Jennica Garcia.

Despite having cerebral palsy, this did not stop Jennica in achieving her dreams by finishing a degree in Finance Accounting and passing the teacher’s licensure exam. OPPO fully supports the Miss Possibilities Foundation in its aim to raise awareness for equal treatment. One of their strong advocacies is to end the use of the “R” word due to its defamatory and unethical meaning.

The pageant is in its 3rd installment since 2015, and it has become a tradition for the special needs community to gather together for one special night to celebrate their achievements, talents, and importance to the society. With its core theme “Beauty Knows No Boundaries”, it also featured the overwhelming support of influential celebrities who joined the special fashion show with children from the special needs community in their French themed outfits.

OPPO Philippines supported all pageant contestants by giving them their own smartphones to enable them to capture moments and share their experiences online as they too, have the equal opportunity to explore and experience the social media world.

We fully support the advocacy of Miss Possibilities Foundation in giving people with special needs equal treatment in society today. The aim of ending the use of the “R” word is very admirable and should be encouraged as this is a start to having a better future for our society,” said OPPO Philippines’ PR Manager Eason de Guzman.

Miss Possibilities Foundation gives those with special needs a platform to be celebrated without being judged or excluded because of their differences. We cherish those differences and would like to thank OPPO Philippines for doing the same. Thank you to OPPO Philippines for making this opportunity and experience possible for people with special needs and their families,” said Suzanna Yuzon, Founder and President of Miss Possibilities Foundation.

Miss Possibilities will continue their advocacy in 2018 with more medical missions, workshops, and other programs for families with special needs. Vivo Philippines Sealed its Position as the Top Mobile Phone Industry with a $4-Billion Partnership with Qualcomm

Vivo, a young leading global smartphone brand, has been making waves in the country since it first hit Philippine market in March 29, 2016. Since its entry into the local scene, the topnotch brand has vied with other strong phone brands and has proven its developing dominion amongst Filipino smart phone enthusiasts. Just September this year, Vivo launched the revolutionary V7+.

The V7+ instantly proved itself to be an instant hit and the best accessory for any young, hip, and out-and- about individual in the country. Known as a selfie-centric phone, the V7+ perfects all shots for clearer selfies with its 24MP front-facing camera - an industry-first - with LED flash and smart photography algorithms provides for a clear-cut, crisp, and natural-looking photo. Impressive enough, in just a span of less than two years, Vivo has found a well-deserved spot in a highly-competitive global arena of mobile smart phones both locally and abroad because of its innovative line of phones that are easy on the pocket.

To maintain Vivo’s top position in the technology and mobile phone arena, the smart phone brand and
one of Qualcomm's key partners, has signed a memorandum of understanding worth 4 billion U.S. dollars with Qualcomm last November 9. The said memorandum strengthened Vivo and Qualcomm's technical partnership and patent sharing and will ensure that Vivo’s position on top in the smart phone industry will maintain its momentum. With the help of Qualcomm's optimized platforms, Vivo aims to stay faithful to its commitment of delivering innovative and technologies that are at the forefront in mobile photography, gaming, smart power saving, and many more. With the ever changing and evolving technology in the realm of communications, Vivo is also working with Qualcomm on research and development in the biometrics space with the introduction of Vivo Under Display fingerprint scanning solution based on Qualcomm fingerprint sensors at the Mobile World Congress in July this year. This said innovative solution did not disappoint and as such, Vivo plans to continuously work on other technologies, particularly 3D facial identification, palm prints, fingerprints, iris scanning and other biometric technologies, to improve the ease-of- use and security of mobile phone biometrics.

Moreover, with the emergence of 5G, Vivo is looking closely into the significance of human-computer interaction in the 21 st century world and has planned a series of collaborative initiatives to accelerate the formulation of 5G standards. In terms of the 5G SoC (System on Chip), Vivo will also share its many years of consumer market experience with Qualcomm to provide consumers with a better and more customized user experience.

Vivo has always heavily competed to stay as the leader in technology application and consumer insights. In order to fulfill this goal and its ambition to stay at the forefront of technology by working
with global partners, Vivo, in October 20, officially headwayed into Hong Kong and faithful to its global expansion goal into the global market, Vivo will soon introduce their top-of- the-line products to Taiwan, Singapore and Russia, as their first foray into the European market, followed by a push into the African market in early 2018.

Last Five Chance to See "Matilda" at the Meralco Theater

Even if you’re little, you can do a lot” says a line in Naughty which is probably the most popular song from the well-loved and award – winning musical Matilda. This says much about Atlantis Theatrical Entertainment Group’s latest offering as it stages for the first time in the Philippines Roald Dahl’s classic story about Matilda – an amazing little girl with extraordinary intelligence and psychokinetic powers.

Now on its final weekend from December 8 – 10 at the Meralco Theater, this musical shows how little Matilda and her friends fought against the injustices of childhood with their wit, bravery and by being a little bit naughty.

Since its opening performance last November 10 at the Meralco Theater, Matilda the Musical has been highly-acclaimed by theater-goers both young and old making it one of the best theater events this season. Headlining this wonderful musical treat dubbed by Jovic Yee in an article as “the future of Philippine theater”, are three equally talented and brilliant Matildas – Esang de Torres, Felicity Kyle Napuli and Uma Naomi Martin.

From the outstanding performances of theater veterans and the amazing young actors who played Crunchem Hall’s revolting children to its masterfully crafted set design this musical is certainly a delightful production.  “There was not a moment that there was no anticipation, not a second that there was no excitement, not a blip where there was no engagement between audience and production”, says theater critic Sujata S. Mukhi. Another theater critic and online editor Vladimir Bunoan, described the musical as one that should easily appeal to the Harry Potter crowd with its dark and magical themes, empowered characters and imaginative visuals. Atlantis’ staging of this Dahl classic is one that captured the hearts of its audience – a powerful representation of an innocent story with a poignant charm that knows no age.

There will be no re-runs so catch Matilda The Musical on its final weekend from December 8 – 10 at the Meralco Theater. Tickets are available at Ticketworld (call 891-9999 or visit www.ticketworld.com.ph).

Watch Alab Pilipinas vs. Singapore Slingers ABL Match on ABS-CBN S+A at 8PM, November 29

Alab Pilipinas faces ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) powerhouse, the 2016-2017 season’s finalists Singapore Slingers this Wednesday (November 29) at the Sta. Rosa Multi-Purpose Complex in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.

Fans can catch the game LIVE at 8pm on S+A and S+A HD.

Bannered by 2016-2017 ABL MVP Bobby Ray Parks, and world imports Reggie Okosa and Ivan Johnson, Alab looks to feed off from the energy of an always-packed Sta. Rosa gym to put a dent on the Slingers’ record as well as get an early upper hand in their budding rivalry.

Alab stood toe-to-toe with their Singaporean counterparts last season, splitting the four games they played. Another interesting note in this matchup is that this season, former Slinger Josh Urbiztondo is playing for the Philippine side after signing up with Alab this year.

The Philippine team hopes to make a deeper run in the new season after falling short of their objective last year: to win a championship. Last November 19 at the MoA Arena, it paraded its new recruits in veterans like Urbiztondo, former DLSU Green Archer Rico Maierhofer, and Cebuano hotshot Dondon Hontiveros alongside new head coach Jimmy Alapag to start its campaign.

Alab almost beat the defending champion Hong Kong Eastern Long Lions last in that game, 89-92, with Okosa leading the charge for the home team with 28 points and 12 rebounds with fellow import and former Atlanta Hawk Ivan Johnson and Parks with 17 markers each. The three will take the cudgels for Alab once more to break into the win column against the Slingers, who defeated CSL Knights Indonesia 77-66 in their home opener behind world import Xavier Alexander, slotman Ryan Wright, and point guard AJ Mandani.

ABL’s exciting home and away format of the young league has endeared itself to fans in every place it visits, packing gyms to the roof as everyone is excited to see the stars from other parts of the Asian region visit their own hardcourt. Filipinos fans get an additional treat as some of our homegrown players are playing as imports in other teams such as the Slingers’ AJ Mandani, the Long Lions’ Christian Standhardinger, and Formosa Dreamers’ James Forrester to name a few.

Don’t miss the festivities at Alab Pilipinas’ home game against 2016-2017 ABL finalists Singapore Slingers in the continuation of the ABL action this Wednesday (November 29) LIVE from the Sta. Rosa Multi-Purpose Complex in Sta. Rosa, Laguna on on S+A and S+A HD at 8 pm.

According to “Meteor Garden’s” original producer Angie Chai, the cast was chosen based on their personalities that are similar to the Taiwanese version of F4.

The production group started its casting call in June this year, and various auditions were held in major cities’ first tier Universities – Taipei, Hong Kong, Singapore, Los Angeles, and China. The production team received over 30,000 applications and resumes from F4 hopefuls.

When asked why Angie thought of rebooting “Meteor Garden” this coming 2018, she said, “It is fate that led me to producing this new version of ‘Meteor Garden,’ considering that it has been 15 years already since the launch of the Taiwanese version. The original manga for me seems ‘unfinished’ and that’s why I think I did not produce the series completely. At least now, I have gotten once more the trust and license approval of the original author, and I am very happy that I get to relive the events 15 years ago and feel youthful once again.

Based from the Japanese manga “Hana Yori Dango,” “Meteor Garden” tells the story of simple girl Shan Cai who gets involved with four popular and rich young boys in school who call themselves F4 or Flower 4.

The first and original “Meteor Garden,” topbilled by Taiwanese actor Jerry Yan, aired on ABS-CBN in 2003. This is where the “Meteor Garden” fever began for Filipino fans.

After six years, the fever is very much alive, this time for the Korean remake titled “Boys Over Flowers, which also aired on ABS-CBN. The KBS-produced adaptation formally introduced international supertstar Lee Min Ho to Pinoy viewers, who is now dubbed as the King of Asianovelas in the country.

ABS-CBN remains to be the home of “Meteor Garden” on Philippine television as the Kapamilya Network airs the Chinese remake next year.

TFC and Star Magic Bring Stellar Ensemble to Singapore in Celebration of Decades of Filipino Talent

As Star Magic’s year-long celebration of 25 years of honing Filipino talents comes to a close next month, the anniversary continues to intensify as ABS-CBN’s talent arm and premier Filipino network TFC gathered some of the biggest names in the Philippine entertainment industry for “Star Magic 25: A Grand Celebration in Singapore”, held last October 29 at the Zepp @ BigBox at Venture Avenue.

The Filipinos in Singapore were in for a starry night as some of Star Magic’s most successful artists came together to share their gratitude for their fellowmen’s continued support.

Grateful for the fan support for their television shows, live concerts and other pursuits, Piolo Pascual, Jericho Rosales, Maja Salvador, Enchong Dee, Jed Madela, Inigo Pascual, KZ Tandingan, Maymay Entrata, Edward Barber, Eric Nicolas, and Kathryn Bernardo, Daniel Padilla, translated their gratitude into exciting performances.

Kicking off the celebration was their fitting opening to the tune of “Can’t Stop the Feeling” by Justin Timberlake.

First to share their performances were the Philippines’ own dancefloor royalties Salvador and Dee. Firing up the dance floor, Ultimate Dance Floor Princess Salvador sang and danced to “Cheap Thrills” by Sia, and performed her original hits “Dahan-Dahan” and “Haplos”. Meantime, the Dance Floor Heartthrob pumped up everyone with his song and dance performance of his hit single “Chinito Problems”.

From dancing to singing, Star Magic has been known to develop world-class talents and Madela and Tandingan proved it that night. The crowd was in awe when Madela performed the classic hits “Stand By Me” by Ben E. King and “Ikaw Lang ang Mamahalin” by Joey Albert. The World Championship of the Performing Arts Hall of Famer also got some members of the crowd emotional with his performance of the song “Go the Distance”, as the lyrics somehow speak of the Overseas Filipinos’ (OFs) journey. Madela also sang the inspirational hit “I Believe”.

For her part, Soul Supreme Tandingan showcased her versatility in performing different genres like rap when she did her own rendition of Gloc 9’s original hit “Sumayaw Ka”, as well as in ballad when she performed her big hit “Mahal Ko o Mahal Ako”, which she interpreted at the biggest Filipino competition for song composition at Himig Handog in 2014.

Joining their first Star Magic tour are Teen Singing Sensation Inigo Pascual, and the up-and-rising love team of Entrata and Barber, popularly known as MayWard.

Inigo could not hide his excitement as he entered the stage as he saw how the audience reacted as performed his hit single “Dahil Sa’yo”. The crowd could not contain their excitement as well as he channeled fellow Teen Heartthrob Justin Bieber by performing “Despacito” originally created and performed by Luis Fonsi featuring Daddy Yankee.

Meantime, Entrata and Barber were grinning from ear to ear when they performed their single “Baliw” and Toni Gonzaga’s “Mahal Kita Kasi” for the Singapore crowd. Barber also got everyone cracked up when he tried to deliver his message in straight Filipino albeit with a German slang. He told the crowd, “Para sa inyo, Tagalugin ko ito — umaapaw po talaga ang puso ko sa pasasalamat (I will try my best to say this in Filipino – my heart is filled with gratitude because of everyone here)”.

From the newest hit love team, Star Magic and TFC also brought The Philippines’ Premier Love Team, Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla. More popularly known as KathNiel, the teen superstars top bill the top-rating series “La Luna Sangre” where they face the mission of putting down their arch nemesis. But during the night of October 29th, they had one mission – to give their fans a performance to remember.

Bernardo first performed the song “Sit Still Look Pretty” by international artist Daya. Padilla then joined her onstage, and together, they performed the theme song of their recent film with the same title, “Can’t Help Falling In Love”, an original hit by the legendary Elvis Presley.

When it was his turn to perform, Padilla ran after Bernardo to stop her from leaving the stage, but the latter encouraged him and said “Kaya mo ‘yan (you can do it)”! and ran backstage. Padilla serenaded their fans with the song “How Sweet it is to be Loved by You” by Marvin Gaye.

From one charming leading man to another, loud cheers of “ang guwapo mo, Echo” welcomed Rosales when he got on stage for his solo performance. The Asian Drama King had everyone singing with his hit single “Pusong Ligaw”, and the song “Manila” by classic OPM group Hotdog, a song which also resonated well with Filipinos outside the homeland.

Meantime, the crowd couldn’t help but do a shout out of a line from a famous soda’s Philippine ad, “I love you, Piolo!” when the Ultimate Heartthrob appeared onstage singing “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” by Frankie Valli and also performed “Kailangan Kita”. Pascual also took the chance to get up-close with his fans.

The excitement doubled as Pascual and Rosales performed the song “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” by the classic international group Queen, together.

Meantime, Nicolas role was to inject extra entertainment and laughter and he truly delivered.

In the end, the prime artist performed an encore to the Star Magic 25th anniversary theme song “Ikaw ang Magic ng Buhay Ko”.

On top of the exciting performances, some fans got the chance to have a photo opportunity with the Star Magic artists. Some got even luckier as they were chosen to join the surprise photo opportunity with Pascual and MayWard.

At the end of the starry night, the artists were as thrilled and grateful as the audience for being able to share their gift of talent and be inspired to continue Star Magic’s pursuit of excellence in their craft.
Kicked off in October 2016 in Australia and in April 2017 in the U.S. and Canada, the last leg of celebrations will happen in December in Dammam on December 1.
