GMA Pinoy TV’s Sikat Ka, Kapuso! was a huge hit among Filipinos abroad as the back-to-back shows featuring Kapuso Drama King Dennis Trillo, Ultimate Star Jennylyn Mercado, Kapuso Premier Drama Actress Lovi Poe, Pambansang Bae Alden Richards, Kapuso comedian Betong Sumaya, and Kapuso Primetime King Dingdong Dantes took New Jersey and Toronto by storm.

The shows held at the Newark Symphony Hall, New Jersey last April 7 and Sony Centre for the Performing Arts, Toronto last April 8 were flocked by excited Pinoys who came from different parts of America and Canada. Fans travelled all the way from New York, Florida, Texas, Michigan, Winnipeg, Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton, St. Laurent and Montreal, Ottawa, and Windsor just to see their Kapuso idols perform on stage and get the chance to take photos with them.

The Kapuso abroad also took to social media how much they enjoyed watching Sikat Ka Kapuso! which became a trending topic over the long weekend.

"One of the best shows I've watched in years,” Joyce Andes-David wrote on Facebook. “[It was] filled with fun, laughter and such wonderful talent and all out performances. Grabe! We're still talking about it!"

Very entertaining. We were laughing from beginning to end!" said Marilyn Gacilos Abiva from Queens, New York.

Jocelyn Escanlar, a GMA Pinoy TV subscriber from Cambridge, Ontario, wrote that even though they always see the artists in their respective TV programs, seeing them in real life is a totally different experience. “We knew they were tired because of their hectic schedule/jet lag and yet their performance level was very high,” she said.

“The experience we had is something that we wish for every Filipino / Filipino at heart to have. Even though it was cold in Toronto and we are far away from the Philippines, the show made us feel like we were back home. It was a night that we truly enjoyed and will not easily forget. Thanks to GMA for bringing them to Toronto, Canada,” Jocelyn added.

Instagram user @mahalo005, meanwhile, said “I’m so happy! Worth it pagpunta ko dito, galling pa ako sa Texas. Thank you Kapuso napakabait nilang lahat. @aldenrichards02, di ka pa rin nagbabago mabait at gwapo ka pa rin! I had so much fun! Thank you Betong, Dennis, Jennylyn, Dingdong, Alden, I love you Kapuso!”

Twitter user Ems noted the positive things about the show. “Ganda ng team work ng 6 artists, they blend well. Ganda ng repertoire ng show. Nanonood sila ng TOTGA. I heard screaming Liam and Alex both in New Jersey and Toronto. The audience enjoyed the show. Congratulations! @gmapinoytv,” she said.

The Kapuso artists, despite the cold weather, tirelessly prepared for the shows and gave their all to provide the Kapuso brand of quality entertainment. They offered a variety of song and dance numbers that reminded the audience of home as well as laughter and kilig that the crowd surely loved.

Dennis expressed his gratitude to his fellow Pinoys for the warmth they received during their brief stay in the East Coast. “Kung gaano po kalamig dito, ganun naman kainit ang pagtanggap ninyo sa amin. Salamat po, mga Kapuso!

Jennylyn also thanked everyone who supported their shows. “Maraming salamat po sa lahat ng mga nagpunta. Sa uulitin! Magkita-kita po tayo!

Lovi was nothing but grateful for the love and energy that the audience gave her during their show. “That was amazing. Napawi pagod namin sa inyo. Maraming salamat, mga Kapuso!

On the other hand, Alden said that spending time with his supporters in the US and Canada was his way of saying thanks to them. “We’re very happy to see them. Maraming salamat at sana makabalik po kami, napakainit ng pagtanggap ninyo sa amin,” he said.

Betong said seeing the venue filled with an excited crowd really made him forget about his jetlag. “Ibang iba yung pagtanggap nila sa amin, lalo na nung pag-labas namin sa stage, ang daming tao! Binigyan ako ng energy boost ng mga tao! Sana hindi po ito ang ating una at huling pagkikita and please subscribe sa GMA Pinoy TV para lagi kayong amazing!,” said Betong.

Lastly, Dingdong acknowledged the Kapuso abroad for coming together to enjoy the concert with them. “Alam ko marami sa atin ang napapasaya ng GMA Pinoy TV, mga Kapuso of all ages. Thank you mga Kapuso! Sana makauwi kayo sa Pinas very soon!

Sikat Ka, Kapuso! is a GMA-produced event which aims to bring Filipinos abroad closer to home via its international channels GMA Pinoy TV, GMA Life TV, and GMA News TV International.

Partner carriers in the US and Canada also joined the party. Representatives from Charter Communications and RCN attended the New Jersey show while Canadian carriers Bell and Rogers set up booths at the Toronto show.

Directed and co-written by John Krasinski who also stars alongside Emily Blunt, A Quiet Place has garnered rave reviews, currently holding an solid 97% on Rotten Tomatoes, with a B+ CinemaScore.

"Patay Na Si Hesus" (Jesus Is Dead) RIP. OTW. LOL. Showing in U.S. Theaters Starting April 6

“Patay Na Si Hesus” (Jesus is Dead) may not exactly appear like it’s the most apropos movie for the current Easter season.

Because it’s not. And it’s not about that Jesus either.

So, y’all can chill when it comes to U.S. theaters starting tomorrow, April 6, in 11 cities in California, Nevada, Illinois and New Jersey.

A darling of film festivals, “Patay Na Si Hesus” won the Audience Choice and Gender Sensitivity Awards when it debuted late 2016 at the QCinema International Film Festival and the Jury’s Choice Award at the 2017 Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino (Festival of Filipino Films) of the Film Development Council of the Philippines. It won the Star Awards Indie Movie Screenwriters of the Year for Moira Lang (formerly Raymond Lee) and Fatrick Tabada and FAP Awards for Best Supporting Actress for Chai Fonacier. It has played at the 1st Cinematografo International Film Festival in San Francisco, Seattle Twist Festival, Toronto Reel Asian Festival and Cambodia International Film Festival.

One thing in common about theaters that screened this movie, which by the way, is in a Filipino dialect called Cebuano (not Tagalog)?  They were packed.  And theatergoers almost died… laughing.

No worries for those who will watch starting tomorrow: this original crazy rib-tickler will have English subtitles.

The film stars Jaclyn Jose, the first Filipina to win Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival for the dark and gritty, “Ma’ Rosa” in 2016.  She plays Maria Fatima or Iyay for short. Joining her are Chai Fonacier as Jude, Melde Montanez as Jay, Vincent Viado as Hubert, among others.

Oh, yes, there is this cuddly canine named Judas. But don’t ask who played Jesus.

So, what’s going on in this film? Iyay got her three adult kids together on a long drive from Cebu to Dumaguete (think about 5 hours of driving).  The reason? To attend the funeral of Iyay’s long-estranged husband and father of her kids named Hesus.  The eldest child, Hubert, has Down’s syndrome.  The middle child, Judith Marie is a lesbian/trans man named Jude.  The youngest child, Jay, is a jobless bum.  With Judas the dog and their crazy aunt, Lucy, they all squeezed into their trusty minivan for one life-changing road trip guaranteed to make the viewers cackle, giggle and guffaw from all the hilarious banter and absurdity that go on.  But viewers might need a tissue or two for tears because this is one family story that will also touch hearts.

ReelAdvice.net wrote:

Quirky, offensive and hilarious are words that easily describe "Patay na si Hesus". The film mixes comedy and drama perfectly into a volatile, unique and in-your-face experience. This is one road movie you wouldn't want to pass up.”

Kudos to director Victor Villanueva, the cast and crew.

TFCU Talks Aims to Connect, Inspire, Empower the Youth in Australia

Coming from its successful first international leg in Manila last March 2017, TFCU Talks now flies to Sydney, Australia for the very first "TFCU Talks Sydney", happening on April 7 at the Ballroom of Blacktown Workers Club (55 Campbell St. Blacktown New South Wales, Australia).

TFCU is an initiative which aims to connect, inspire, and empower Filipino college students and young professionals through the TFCU Talks event, which features industry professionals and personalities who share their stories that will help the Filipino youth realize their full potential while embracing their cultural identity.

There have been a series of TFCU Talks already held in the United States, which are the "TFCU Breaking the Mold" in Long Beach, California; "TFCU Talks Seattle: Live Your Legacy" in Seattle, Washington; "TFCU Talks Carson: Rise Up" in Carson, California; "TFCU Talks San Jose: Breakthrough to Greatness" in San Jose, California; the most recent "TFCU Talks Davis: Embracing Identity" in Davis, California; and happening soon is the "TFCU Talks New York City: Visionary Leadership" in New York City.

TFCU Talks has created a positive buzz one talk after the other, with its reputable speakers who are the likes of Food Network's "The Great Food Truck Race" season four winner Lanai Tabura, singer-musician-songwriter-recording-artist AJ Rafael, and tech entrepreneur and adventure journalist Garrett Gee of "The Bucket List Family."

On its second international leg happening this year, "TFCU Talks Sydney" anchors on the themePursuing Your Passion and taps the young Filipino-Australians by featuring three industry professionals who went out of their comfort zones and discovered their full potential.

Eman Rodriguez

At the young age of 12, Eman Rodriguez already knew his passion – breakdancing. He kept honing his skills, until he decided to join "So You Think You Can Dance" season 2 in 2009. Even if he did not make the final cut, Rodriguez kept going after his dream. He joined the dance group Justice Crew to compete in "Australia's Got Talent" in 2010, where they were hailed the season's champion. This opened door of opportunities for them, such as a record contract under Sony Music where they had several platinum hit singles.

After leaving the group to pursue a solo career, Rodriguez focused on developing his talents to fulfill his dream of being a multi-skilled entertainer. One of the skills he worked on is hosting, which he exhibited at the "10th BC ONE World Breakdancing Competition" and his YouTube show "REEL."

Aside from music and breakdancing, Rodriguez' other passion is football and in 2017, he joined the Philippine rugby football team "Philippine Volcanoes" to represent the country in different international competitions.

Gretchen Ho

People first took notice of Gretchen Ho in 2008 when she joined and became one of the star players of Ateneo Lady Eagles, the volleyball team of the prestigious Philippine university Ateneo de Manila University. Aside from the scholarship, Ho joined the squad to prove to her parents that she can juggle her responsibilities as a student while still pursuing her passion in sports.

After she graduated in 2013, Ho tried her luck in the news and entertainment industry in the Philippines where she discovered her gift and spunk for hosting. It may be a far cry from her image as an athlete, but eventually she learned the ropes. Now, Ho has several regular hosting stints in ABS-CBN's news programs like "Umagang Kay Ganda (A Beautiful Morning)," "TV Patrol," and ANC's lifestyle program "Modern Girls."

Marco Andre Selorio

Marco Andre Selorio is the man behind some of the popular dance competitions in Australia.Selorio is not new to the entertainment industry as he once was part of the children's show "Kulit Bulilit" (Curious Kids) in the Philippines. His acting career was cut short when his family migrated to Australia.

There he focused on his studies and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Commerce and Economics. He launched HOOPDREAMZ, a business that started by sending out newsletters for Sydney Kings basketball team. Eventually, it evolved into a company that organizes events that serve as platform for budding artists to showcase their talents, like the globally renowned "World Supremacy Battle Grounds" and the "GROOVE" street dance competition.

"TFCU Talks Sydney" will also feature an exciting performance from Eman Rodriguez with the JMA Dance Crew, choreographed by Maurice June. June is one of the founders of JMA Entertainment, the talent agency behind the popular Australian dance group Justice Crew.

"We are really excited to inspire the young people of Australia. We want to remind those who attend TFCU Talks Sydney that by living out their potential and pursuing their passions they can truly make a positive difference in the world," said Romeo Marquez Jr., TFCU Program Director.

Experience an afternoon filled with inspiring stories that will fuel your desire to fulfill your dreams at "TFCU Talks Sydney", happening on April 7, at the Ballroom of Blacktown Workers Club (55 Campbell St. Blacktown New South Wales, Australia).

This is a tremendous opportunity to showcase F1 and attract new fans to the sport."

Inigo Pascual and DJ Moophs Collaborate with Summer Hit Single “On my way!”

Spring may have officially started in the U.S. though it still feels like winter in most places.  But with the latest collab track dropped by Billboard Philippines Top 20 chart-topper Inigo Pascual and DJ and music producer Chris Lopez a.k.a. Moophs, expect the duo to fan the flames of summer heat from the Philippines and bring it to American shores with their new single, "OMW (On My Way)".

This is not the first time that Pascual and Moophs have worked or performed together.  Both are coming off the high profile success of "One Music X" last November in Dubai, UAE which turned out to be one of the biggest music festivals of the year in the Middle East.  Just last weekend, the two also performed at the prestigious Coronation Night of the Bb. Pilipinas beauty pageant held at the historic Smart Araneta Coliseum in Metropolitan Manila.

When "OMW" debuted on YouTube on March 15 with hardly any publicity and promotions, it immediately garnered tens of thousands of views, scores of likes and positive comments.

"When I wrote 'OMW', I tried to put myself in the shoes of my 21-year old self, since that's where Inigo's at now," said Moophs. "What was my mindset 10 years ago? What was I worried about and what was I doing on the daily? I definitely wasn't the young superstar at 21 that Inigo is today! But I think a lot of the driving forces are ultimately the same: girls, music, finishing school, and having a good time with friends. I tried to write the song from that perspective: you wake up a little groggy from a fun night, get a text from your girl, and head over to her place. Simple!"

Moophs continued: "The vibe of the production for 'OMW' came from a blend of my tastes and Inigo's. I tried to keep it lighthearted and accessible with a drop that's fun but still slaps. 'OMW' is your twenty-something summer anthem."

While based in the Philippines right now asABS-CBN's International Music Content Officer and head of the Tarsier Records imprint, which was launched by Manila-based recording giant Star Music for international audiences, Moophs shares the Los Angeles feels and vibes with Pascual because both of them lived for years in the City of Angels.  Both have been exposed to the breadth of musical influences in the world's seat of entertainment.  When Pascual returned to the Philippines to try it out as an actor and singer, his first big break in music came when he composed and recorded "Dahil Sa 'Yo" (Tagalog phrase that means "because of you"). The song jumpstarted his career as a recording and live performing artist as it became the first number one song on Billboard Philippines' Top 10 Charts at opening, then holding the top spot for nine weeks.

Currently, Pascual's music resides in the genres of Pop and R&B. "I want to create music that helps people express their unspoken emotions; music that takes them back to a specific time in their lives, an anthem of sorts for a generation: music that gets people to dance, and entire stadiums to sing and shout," he said.

Check out "OMW (On My Way)" from Tarsier Records on YouTube and Spotify.

PGT Grand Finalists 1 and 2: Nocturnal Dance Company and Orville Tonido

After showcasing another fantastic fusion of modern and tribal dance, the Nocturnal Dance Company captivated viewers and garnered 44.55% of the combined online and text votes.

The judges, meanwhile, picked Orville after he drew loud cheers with his comedy act wherein he pulled out bananas of different sizes and forms from his Lily Cruz-inspired gold gown.

This coming weekend, four acts compete for two grand finalists slots. Who among Kristel De Catalina, Jeptah Calintong, Xtreme Dancers, and the Bu-Away Folkloric Dance Troupe will win over the viewers and the judges?

DZMM Retraces Jesus’ Footsteps in “Sa Landas ni Hesus” Documentary

For the first time in its 31 years on the air, DZMM has produced a full-length audio-visual documentary in time for the Holy Week to be simulcast on DZMM Radyo Patrol 630 on AM radio and DZMM TeleRadyo on cable and ABS-CBN TVplus.

Starting Holy Monday (March 26), DZMM anchor Bro. Jun Banaag, O.P. has brought viewers with him in his pilgrimage to the Holy Land in the "SA LANDAS NI HESUS Maglakbay, Magnilay" documentary, where he visited historical places and holy sites that people only get to read in the Bible or hear about during the mass.

The documentary traces certain highlights in the life of Jesus, from his conception, birth and public ministry, to his passion, death and resurrection. This spiritual journey will bring us to Bethlehem where Jesus was born, to Nazareth where he grew up, and to other places like Capernaum, Bethany and Jerusalem where he left his mark preaching, healing the sick and performing miracles.

Bro. Jun  will bring us to the sacred waters of the Jordan River where Jesus was baptized, and ride a wooden boat to the Sea of Galilee where Jesus walked on its waters.

Viewers will also see the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, which now sits atop the Mount of Calvary, also known as Golgotha or Place of the Skull, where Christ was nailed to the cross. The Church also houses the cave that served as Jesus' resting place and the site of his resurrection.

The first two parts of "SA LANDAS NI HESUS Maglakbay, Magnilay" aired on Bro. Jun's "Dr. Love Radio Show" on Holy Monday (March 26) and Holy Tuesday (March 27). Part 3 will be aired on Holy Wednesday (March 28) at 11 pm.

DZMM Radyo Patrol 630 and DZMM TeleRadyo will air the documentary in full on Maundy Thursday (March 29) at  4 pm, on Good Friday (March 30) at 10:30am, and on Black Saturday (March 31) at 6:30 pm.
