Documentary on Gina Lopez' "Genuine Love for Filipinos, The Philippines, and God" Now Available on IWant and ABS-CBN News YouTube

Through the documentary “Genuine Love,” people learned more about Gina Lopez’s love for children, people, our nation, and the environment, which she expressed through projects and campaigns. She was the driving force behind iconic educational shows for the youth like “Sineskwela,” “Hiraya Manawari,” and “Bayani,” which inspired love for learning and love for country among a generation of Filipinos.

Gina, the former chairperson of ABS-CBN Foundation, founded the first rescue hotline for abused children in the country Bantay Batay 163, environment movements Bantay Kalikasan, Save the La Mesa Watershed, Kapit Bisig Para Sa Ilog Pasig, and No to Mining in Palawan.

Netizens can now watch “Genuine Love,” the documentary on the life of service of former environment secretary on ABS-CBN News YouTube channel and on-demand on streaming service iWant.

Filipinos went to social media to express their admiration and gratitude for her.  Produced by ABS-CBN DocuCentral, “Genuine Love” shows the different aspects of Gina’s life as told by her mother Conchita and siblings led by ABS-CBN chairman emeritus Eugenio “Gabby” Lopez III and Creative Programs Inc. president Ernie Lopez, and her past and present colleagues in the ABS-CBN Foundation Inc. (AFI) like former Bantay Bata 163 head Tina Monzon-Palma and current Bantay Kalikasan program director Jen Santos.

The piece, which sparked tributes to Gina from Filipinos online, first aired on ABS-CBN last August 25, six days after she passed away. It features photos from her youth and as a yoga missionary of Ananda Marga, news footages, and excerpts from her speeches and interviews as an anti-mining advocate, and secretary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources. It also showed some parts of Gina’s last TV interview that aired in July, which showed her still full of life, hope, and love despite her health challenges.

Twitter user @djhamerabag called Gina “one of a kind” and praised her for leaving “the comforts of her home because of genuine service to humanity.”

Netizen @iamdinard also posted “Watching #GenuineLove, I couldn’t think of any other Filipino who has the same heart to serve as Gina Lopez. Gone too soon, Earth warrior!” Her words also ignited nationalism among the viewers.

Twitter user @champagnemiles also thanked her for “empowering the locals through their projects and promote eco-tourism” through her projects like ILove Foundation and “G Diaries,” while @NicaillTimbal and @reedtulio raved about her genuineness, passion, and selfless heart.

And like many others that watched the documentary, @stephanie_hazel was inspired to follow in Gina’s footsteps. She posted, “That passion, fire and selfless love. Not for money, not for fame. But, for the people, for the Filipinos, and especially, for God. GL, does not only stand for #GinaLopez but for #GenuineLove. I hope, someday, I’ll be closer to what she had been.”

De-Aging Techniques Employed for the Young Losers in “IT Chapter Two”

Reprising their roles in Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema's "IT Chapter Two" as the young members of the Losers Club are Jaeden Martell as Bill, Wyatt Oleff as Stanley, Jack Dylan Grazer as Eddie, Finn Wolfhard as Richie, Sophia Lillis as Beverly, Chosen Jacobs as Mike, and Jeremy Ray Taylor as Ben.

(Watch the film's new spot at https://youtu.be/l1UptDECpUU.)

There was one problem, though. The young Losers by then were not as young by three years since "IT Chapter One." Producer Barbara Muschietti acknowledges, "Physically, most of them changed quite radically, and we knew we were going to employ some de-aging techniques for the flashbacks.

"They're all really amazing kids," she continues, "like Ferraris, so fast and brilliant, and they all found each other on the first film. Having them back, we could literally watch them regress to their 13-year-old selves. They're now all young adults with strong careers, but when they're together, they return to that summer and they're all still kids…burping on each other, just having a great time. I love that and hope they never lose it."

In "IT Chapter Two," twenty-seven years after the Losers' Club defeated Pennywise, he has returned to terrorize the town of Derry once more. Now adults, the Losers have long since gone their separate ways. However, people are disappearing again, so Mike, the only one of the group to remain in their hometown, calls the others home. Damaged by the experiences of their past, they must each conquer their deepest fears to destroy Pennywise once and for all...putting them directly in the path of the shape-shifting clown that has become deadlier than ever.

To include the time jumps back to 1989, Muschietti says his goal was to integrate the flashbacks "into the main plot and the journeys of each of the Losers, not just have them exist as character scenes. For example, we see Ben as a lonely boy, afraid of ending his days alone. We get a glimpse of Beverly, where it's clear that she loves her father, despite his treatment of her. These behaviors play out all through their lives, with relapses and cycles that become worse and worse. But, they have an origin in something specific, something we didn't know about the Losers as children and something we haven't seen until now."

After filming "IT," the teen actors kept in regular contact. Finn Wolfhard, who returns as Richie, remembers, "We'd heard rumors, mostly from each other, that they were going to bring us back. We later went for dinner with Andy and Barbara, and they confirmed that we would be a part of the second movie, without much specifics. Then, one of us would see Andy, who'd mention a scene that we were going to be in, and that got around. We were piecing it together, really, until we got the official email. Our scenes turned out to be flashbacks that actually tell more about our characters, stuff that audiences don't really know about, until Chapter Two. Of course, it was great being back together on the set. But what was really cool was us getting to tell a bigger story about that summer."

Wyatt Oleff, younger Stanley, surmises, "I think as 12- and 13-year-olds, a lot of the Losers - before Pennywise, anyway - had a lot of normal fears for that age, all very childish and carefree. But once they come back as adults, they have a lot more responsibilities, a lot more to lose. They are risking their lives. Before, it was more about surviving. For them to come back together, risk everything, because of an oath they made when they were 13? That's pretty powerful."

That formative experience of being in the Losers' Club together is what sets its seven members on their life paths. Andy Muschietti comments, "'Loser' carried a bad connotation when the characters meet, but they chose to call themselves the Losers' Club, implying a sense of communion and a shared strength. When the adults return after 27 years of being alone while they pursue their lives and careers, they realize that there was nothing more meaningful and substantial in terms of emotion than being part of that club. That's what they mean when they say, 'We're Losers…and we always will be."

In Philippine cinemas September 4, "IT Chapter Two" is distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

ABS-CBN Honors Modern-Day Pinoy Heroes in 15th Gawad Geny Lopez Jr. Bayaning Pilipino Awards

Ordinary Filipinos who show selfless acts of love for their community were recognized by ABS-CBN in the 15th awarding cycle of ABS-CBN's Gawad Geny Lopez Jr. Bayaning Pilipino Awards.
ABS-CBN found new faces of heroism not only in the Philippines, but also in other countries. They include a diverse set of inspiring individuals that include doctors, educators, OFWs, Fil-Ams, and youth advocates.
"Our heroes are not endowed with any superpower, if at all they have any kind of power, it would be their great and deep love for their fellow Filipino, which allows them to transcend severe constraint of resources to find creative ways to serve," Eugenio "Gabby" Lopez III, ABS-CBN chairman emeritus said about modern-day Filipino heroes.
Meanwhile, Kapamilya stars also graced the awarding ceremony as presenters and performers to celebrate the heroism of the modern-day Pinoy heroes, including Kathryn Bernardo, Kim Atienza, "PBB Otso" big winner Yamyam Gucong, "PBB Otso" alumnus Fumiya Sankai, rapper Kritiko, Janine Berdin, Regine Velasquez-Alcasid and Miss Universe Philippines 2019 Gazini Ganados, while Gretchen Ho and Ogie Alcasid hosted the event.
The Gawad Geny Lopez Jr. Bayaning Pilipino Awards is an annual search for ordinary Filipinos who have done extraordinary deeds that was envisioned by the late "Kapitan" Eugenio "Geny" Lopez Jr. to give the Filipino people real-life Filipino superheroes they can look up to and emulate.

Ansel Elgort Struggles with Loss, Guilt in “The Goldfinch”

Warner Bros. Pictures' The Goldfinch is the achingly poignant journey of trauma survivor Theo Decker,  portrayed as an adult by Ansel Elgort (Baby Driver, The Fault in Our Stars) and, as a child, by Oakes Fegley (Pete's Dragon).

(Watch the film's trailer at https://youtu.be/u8WMMM8ShjY.)

The film is based on Donna Tartt's best-selling novel The Goldfinch, published in the fall of 2013, and immediately became a must-read, topping best seller lists around the globe, earning numerous honors, including the coveted Pulitzer Prize.

The last time 13-year-old Theo Decker saw his mother, she was gliding away from him into another gallery of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.  Seconds later, a terrorist bomb exploded destroying priceless pieces of art…and shattering Theo's life forever.  The tragedy changes the course of his life, sending him on a stirring odyssey of grief and guilt, reinvention and redemption, friendship and even love.

Throughout the turbulent years, as he grows into adulthood, Theo secretly clings to a single, precious object—his one tangible connection to the mother he lost on that terrible day—a priceless painting of a tiny bird chained to its perch.  The Goldfinch.

Ansel Elgort shares, "It is a beautiful and intense drama that draws you in.  The story of a life that was stolen and the ripple effects of a single devastating event."

The actor allows that one of the most daunting aspects of his performance was conveying the trauma that haunts Theo, who remains, metaphorically, as chained to the day of the bombing as the tiny bird is to its perch in the stolen painting.  Hidden away, it is his secret talisman, which both comforts and torments him.  And, like The Goldfinch, the pain Theo feels is also concealed from view.

Elgort observes that his character "views human life as something fleeting because his life has been so traumatic.  But an object can endure, and I think that idea comforts him.  And the object he prizes the most—and the one that also haunts him the most—is The Goldfinch."

"Judging by appearances alone, Theo seems to have gotten himself together," Elgort explains.  "But inside, he is still struggling with his loss and the guilt he has been carrying on his shoulders since childhood.  I had to find his inner darkness and getting to that place was my biggest challenge.

The filmmakers knew that engendering empathy for Theo would have to begin with the young actor playing him at age 13, when his world was shattered.  Young actor Oakes Fegley says, "Theo's mom was the only stable family he had.  His father left and is not part of his life, so to lose her, too, leaves Theo feeling helpless, with no control over where life is taking him, on top of his grief and guilt.  He goes through such a big range of emotions, which is one of the things that drew me to the role."

"We went through hundreds and hundreds of submissions of kids for Theo," recalls director John Crowley.  "It was a gradual process of narrowing them down, and we kept circling back to Oakes.  He was really good and very touching, and there was also this impression of an old soul about him that felt right for this character."

Producer Nina Jacobson concludes, "Oakes Fegley is a remarkably sophisticated actor, especially for someone that young.  His performance is extraordinary…so moving, so vulnerable."

In Philippine cinemas September 18, "The Goldfinch" is distributed in the Philippines by Warner Bros. Pictures, a WarnerMedia Company.

Cetaphil and Watsons Launch National Healthy Skin Mission

Does your face feel clean but not tight after you wash it?

Does your face feel hydrated and well moisturized?

Is it free from scales and flakes? Do you use sunscreen to protect your skin from having sun spots?

If you answered yes to all four, then you have healthy skin, the four components of which are eveness, smooth texture, hydration, and normal sensations.

You may have skin that looks beautiful and glowing but it is not necessarily healthy.

Cetaphil, the most prescribed skin care brand by dermatologists in the Philippines recently launched National Healthy Skin Mission, an educational campaign that aims to educate Filipinos on how to achieve healthy skin.

Healthy skin looks and feels smooth. The key word is consistent. It does not have to be as smooth as glass. Consistent skin color is also a sign of good health. Plump skin is also a sign that it is well hydrated.

"National Healthy Skin Mission is an effort initiated by Cetaphil in partnership with Watsons. As Cetaphil’s brand purpose is to improve lives of Filipino’s through healthy skin. It is consistent with Galderma's commitment to promoting healthy skin as part of a healthy lifestyle. To be completely healthy, you also need healthy skin," said Cetaphil Brand Manager, Francesca Sy

"We are very happy to be partnering with Galderma and Cetaphil for National Healthy Skin Mission. At Watsons, we believe that you can look good, feel great by being healthy inside and out," said Watson’s Category Manager, Aimee Pernia

As part of the National Healthy Skin Mission, Cetaphil imparts that there are different skin types. A complicated skin care routine is not the key to healthy skin. What is important is to come up with a skin care routine that is geared toward your skin type and skin issues.

Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser is the most iconic product of Cetaphil. It is fragrance-free, has a pH level of 5.5 and is even gentler than water. It is the gentlest cleanser you can use on your skin, whatever your skin type and concern.

The Cetaphil routine is simple but effective and includes three steps: Cleanse, Moisturize and Protect.

Cetaphil is launching a roadshow to different parts of the Philippines so Filipinos could try out the products for themselves. Visit Cetaphil Healthy Skin Mission activations in SM Makati, SM Megamall, SM North EDSA and SM Lanang Premier on August 16-18, 2019 and in SM San Lazaro, SM Mall of Asia, and SM Fairview on August 30-September 1, 2019.

Viva International Pictures Brings “Angel Has Fallen” in PH Cinemas; Now Showing Nationwide

He had been down a few times, but nothing could ever take him out.  That's Gerard Butler as Secret Service Agent Mike Banning in the global box office hits "Olympus Has Fallen" (2013) and "London Has Fallen" (2016).
This year, this agent who is referred to as "the President's top guardian angel"  is going to get beat up yet again, the question is, how will Butler's Banning rise from this fall?
Angel Has Fallen is the third entry to the "Fallen" franchise. Mike Banning is selected by U.S. President Allan Trumbull (Morgan Freeman) to be the director of the Secret Service.  But before he could assume his new appointment, Banning finds himself in a crucial position to protect the president as they are attacked by explosive drones.
The next thing he knows, he is already in the hospital, handcuffed and being charged with the attempted murder of President Trumbull. FBI Agent Thompson (Jada Pinkett-Smith) is convinced of Banning's culpability because he is the only one in his team who survives the tragedy.
Hellbent on proving his innocence and bringing the real culprit to justice, Banning escapes capture.  As the FBI and his own agency are hot on his trail, Banning tracks down his father (Nick Nolte) to get his help.
Just like in all his previous battles, he must keep his family from harm, keep the president alive, and save the country from imminent danger.  The big difference is, he is also fighting for his life.
Directed by Ric Roman Waugh (Snitch, Shot Caller), "Angel Has Fallen" offers non-stop action while taking the audience to what Butler describes as a "much deeper, darker journey"  of Mike Banning.  Reports have it that two other scripts had been scrapped in favor of this story, which is said to have been inspired by The FugitiveThe Bourne Identity, and Taken.
Butler said in an interview back in 2017, *I couldn't even see a way to make a third (Fallen film), you know we'd joke about it 'What, Tokyo? Hong Kong? What is it going to be!?' …Until this idea came along and until Ric came along – now I've gone from not knowing what to do with it, to thinking this is going to be the best one."
In the same interview, Butler shared that Waugh told him that he wanted to make a movie with him "that'll be remembered for three generations".  In response to that, Butler said, "Well what about Has Fallen 3?", and Waugh said, "That's not what I was thinking!"  Butler said to the reluctant director, 'Read this script, it's kind of like The Fugitive, take it and let's put your spin on it'.
Fast forward to May 2019, Waugh posted the trailer of "Angel Has Fallen" on Twitter and wrote, "For years Gerard Butler and I have been wanting to collaborate. Damn glad it was this one. It was definitely worth the wait!"
"Angel Has Fallen" opens in Philippine cinemas nationwide on August 21, 2019.  From Viva International Pictures and MVP Entertainment.

ABS-CBN Remembers Gina Lopez in the “Genuine Love” Documentary this Sunday at 1045am and 9pm

ABS-CBN shares the amazing and inspiring life story of well-loved environmentalist and philanthropist Gina Lopez in the special documentary "Genuine Love," which airs this Sunday (August 25) at 10:45 am before "ASAP Natin 'To" and at 9 pm after "The Voice Kids."

Produced by ABS-CBN DocuCentral, "Genuine Love" takes us to Gina's younger days and shows how and why she left her family and a life of privilege to search for a deeper life purpose.

After serving as an Ananda Marga missionary for more than 15 years in Africa, she returned to the Philippines and took over ABS-CBN Foundation -- the socio-civic arm of the country's biggest broadcast network that was founded by her father Eugenio "Geny" Lopez Jr.

In her trailblazing way, Gina spearheaded projects, which included Educational Television (ETV) that produced iconic programs like "Sineskwela" and "Hiraya Manawari;" Bantay Kalikasan that promoted environmental preservation; and Bantay Bata 163, Asia's first rescue hotline for abused children.

Her advocacy against illegal and destructive commercial mining made President Rodrigo Duterte appoint her as an environment secretary.

After her short stint in the government, Gina wasted no time and founded the Investments in Loving Organizations for Village Economies (ILOVE) Foundation, where partner organizations in the government and private sector united to provide financial and technical support to eight deserving groups. She featured the stories of the eight organizations in her show "G Diaries" on ABS-CBN.

Her death last Monday (August 19), crushed the hearts of her many supporters, fellow advocates, and beneficiaries of her projects, who attest to her sincerity and unwavering passion to serve the Filipino people.

As it traces the beginning of Gina's life in public service until her passing, "Genuine Love" will share stories about Gina as told by her family members, friends, and colleagues who attended her wake held in ABS-CBN. It will also show final interview last July 12 with Tina Monzon-Palma.

Watch the inspiring story of the ABS-CBN Foundation, the individuals and communities it has helped, and the woman behind its enduring mission this Sunday (August 25) ) at 10:45 am before "ASAP Natin 'To" and at 9 pm after "The Voice Kids." Watch online on iwant.ph or skyondemand.com.ph.

“TNT Boys: Journey to World Stage” Now Available for Free Streaming on iWant

Filipino and foreign fans witnessed the whirlwind journey of the TNT Boys from being social media sensations to Hollywood darlings. What were their lives like before they found worldwide fame, and what awaits them as they grow older into their teenage years?

iWant lets their fans in on never-before-seen footage, behind-the-scenes struggles, and friendship that glued together Mackie Empuerto, Keifer Sanchez, and Francis Concepcion to become the bigshot vocal trio they are today in the iWant original documentary series "TNT Boys: Journey to the World Stage" that is now available for free streaming.

Before they became a group, these little boys with small voices first impressed viewers as grand finalists in "Tawag ng Tanghalan Kids" on "It's Showtime." Although they did not win the competition, their experience only made them more determined to pursue their passion and dreams for their families.

They were then officially launched as a trio in 2017, unexpectedly, after the video of their vocal showdown on "Gandang Gabi Vice" became viral online. The boys have since gained worldwide attention and have sung for international audiences in "Little Big Shots" US, UK, and Australia and have performed for several head of states.

Their versatility and charm made them stand out in the second season of "Your Face Sounds Familiar Kids," where they were hailed as the grand champion, as their transformations into music icons, including Bee Gees, Jessie J, Nicki Minaj, and Ariana Grande, made headlines around the world.

This ultimately landed them a defining stint in US TV network CBS' international talent competition "The World's Best," where Hollywood stars Ru Paul, Faith Hill, and Drew Barrymore showered them with praises. Worldwide attention on the trio reached fever pitch when they appeared in the TV show "The Late Late Show with James Corden," where they got to perform with their idol, global superstar Ariana Grande.

Last year, the international sensation also added another history-making feat to their long list of accolades as they now hold the record of being the youngest artists to headline a sold-out concert, not only at the Araneta Coliseum but in the whole country, with their successful "Listen: The Big Shot Concert."

How do Mackie, Keifer, and Francis handle the pressure of fame despite being so young? How do they deal with misunderstandings among themselves in order for their trio to work?

ABS-CBN Ball 2019 to Grant Scholarships to Underprivileged Children

For ABS-CBN, celebrating 65 years of being in the service of the Filipino means remaining committed to help those in need. That is why when it brings back the ABS-CBN Ball on September 14 at Shangri-La The Fort, it will continue what it started last year – to bring hope to underprivileged children, this time through the Bantay Bata 163 Bantay Edukasyon program.

The coming ball will give the stars and other attendees the chance to provide children in need the tool to reach their dreams, through scholarships.

With the program, all of the children's basic needs to help them have a normal education, from complete tuition assistance, to meal and transportation allowances, school supplies, and other fees, will be covered.

Under the program, the children and their families receive counseling and are provided self-development sessions, as well as training on basic life skills through social work intervention. This includes values formation and parenting sessions, the Resiliency Program, which helps scholars determine their strengths and weaknesses; music, arts, and sports programs to teach them the value of discipline in their lives; and more recently, even a digital workshop to help expand the children's choices of possible careers.

Bantay Bata 163 implemented the Bantay Edukasyon program in 1998 to serve as an aftercare service for rescued children. It has since provided 6,400 scholarships all over the country since it started.

This year's affair essentially continues what it started last year, which helped successfully re-open the Bantay Bata Children's Village, and gave a group of underprivileged children a new home.

The Ball will also honor ABS-CBN Foundation and Bantay Bata 163 founder Gina Lopez. Under Lopez, Bantay Bata 163 rescued thousands of children from physical and sexual abuse and eventually provided what she considers her greatest achievement for it, the Children's Village in Norzagaray, Bulacan. The Village is now more than a shelter and rehabilitation area for children as it has become a benchmark for childcare excellence.

The 2018 ABS-CBN Ball gathered a total of P5 million, which was used for the construction and rehabilitation of the structures of the village, CCTV training for social workers, the installation of a call and paging system, a Library, and a multimedia room.

Since the Bantay Bata Children's Village opened its doors last December 2018, it has already served 46 children. Five of them have already reunited with their families while 41 are still in the village.
